Kinda looks like they took the CP level from Generations, threw some new assets on top of it, and put the cloudy storm skybox from the Generations' Perfect Chaos as a background. Looks visually drab. Amen to that. Anyone from Sega who says otherwise (and also pushes the "it's not Generations 2" narrative) has a bridge made of molten rings and sports tape to sell you.
You can even see the green numbered ring hoops from Lost World in the background in one shot not included in the Facebook post, hoo boy. I can see they're actually going for a plant with container areas and other things, mixing it up a little to some degree, but that's still Green Hill, Chemical Plant, and a Casino Night-in-a-Forest. This game doesn't have anywhere near the strong anniversary excuse Generations had, there's no real reason to be reusing level tropes that were already redone six years ago. And if the gameplay from Green Hill and Casino Forest were anything to go by for Classic, Avatar and Tag Team, they don't even really use the new twists on the trope for anything; it's either straightforward gameplay or an enemy gimmick rather than level design, and leaving all the new twists entirely to set dressing and background only. I'm sticking to my story that they started developing this last year after Sonic Runners flopped.
It is actually amazing how much this game is doing exactly like Mania in terms of level choices, yet somehow making it all vastly less interesting. I remember when the big argument for this game was originality. Funny how that pans out....
Let's just call it 'Malibu Generations: With NEW Hat!' and be done with it at this point. I can't wait for the Little Planet to turn up again for another fight with Metal Sonic on Stardust Speedway :^)
Except this time it's Stardust Speedway but with lava below it, and all of the fire is blatantly recycled from Sonic Generations' Crisis City assets. Innovation.
from the small snippets we've seen in the trailers the metal sonic fight looks like a recycled silver fight from generations. god what else is this going to take from generations?!
We also need Sky Sanctuary zone, except it's in a storm or something and there also needs to be another death egg robot boss.
literally all I wanted was Generations 2 with original stages, Iizuka All you had to do was make the damn Generations 2, Iizuka Like, fuck, they apparently fired all their level designers too, it seems.
I mean, I gotta be honest, I haven't been following Forces news in the hopes that I might be pleasantly surprised when I picked it up, but as soon as I saw that they were pricing the game at $40, the writing was on the wall. Especially after seeing Green Sand Hill way back when. It's a shame that it's a rehash game, but it's also not much of a surprise in the end. Just kind of sad that there's not even the remotest attempt at putting any heart into it. At least Mania's reuse of stuff was genuinely creative.
Let's be honest it's not the worst timeline, they've finally made a classic game with physics that take from even the least cherished Sonic 1 port! Truly this is a celebration of Sonic, period. Everything about Sonic. Even that.
Actually this is the best timeline cause they made it so Classic Sonic is from another dimension, meaning the shit that happens to Modern Sonic never happens to him* *With the exception of what happens in Generations and Forces I guess.
If you think this is the best timeline then we really got screwed on this hand of transdimensional quantum space poker.
