...kinda looks like Metal Sonic's leg....but if he didn't have the metal halfpipe part to cover the lower half of said leg, and if he had a blue paintjob for his shoes?

 

I think it is his leg, but the thigh part going to his kneecap, maybe even his arm to elbow. Compare it to something like this.

For reference, he works at Polygon and also made this video in which he explains why Sonic Mania is his most anticipated game of 2017.

 

After staring at the image for a long time trying to figure out whether or not it's Metal Sonic, I'm now starting to think that it could be Mecha Sonic. That would be really cool if it was! I mean, it sorta looks like Metal Sonic's leg but it's throwing me off because what looks like the big bolt that connects to his foot, his foot is blue instead of red and the bolts at the top don't match his design. Mecha Sonic's arms have the same circular type bolts and is mostly blue which is why I started thinking maybe it's not Metal Sonic but Mecha Sonic. I could be completely wrong though. For all I know it could be a completely new robot altogether or a new design for Metal Sonic. I think this will be related to Sonic Mania than Sonic 2017 especially since the preview of whatever this is is 2D art and not a 3D model.

From the looks of Mike's tweet showing Metal's actual leg, I don't think that's a leg at all. Granted you could say, well Sergio (Aaron is at Texas right now I think idk) said that it's Leg Day on the Facebook replies. But I'm not gonna take that seriously.

 

I dunno about you guys, but I'm pretty sure I saw a body, a shaft, and a knob. We all know what that means. :v:
