http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMTm1rdWqtU Has anyone every made note of the unique models and animations added to this video from Sonic Ride? I remember noticing this like... 10 years ago and never really brought it up. I wonder just how far this Sonic Ride thing really went. Whether it was just a side project or if it was actually a full fledged attempt at a high quality 3D sonic game...
That video was so trippy. I wish I had more to contribute than that. I honestly hope we find out more about this, it looks like it had some potential.
That's pretty awesome, and it would be neat if they could at least release it as art book or something even
I can only imagine what is in those books and I can only imagine getting to one day see everything for my favorite title of all time. hopefully we at least get those storylines and some stuff on those mysterious unknown levels.
Of course, we are a few months away from... just enough time to get us revved up and salivating for 'OMG Adventure secrets!' only for the 'big' reveal on April 1st. :specialed:
Maybe we'll finally get some official corroboration of the submarine scenario and the reported battle-damaged Terios design. That, and I'm really hoping we can find actual proof that the original playable line-up WAS Sonic Knuckles and Eggman, because honestly I am unconvinced that was actually the case as many theorize. SA2 is such a black box of weird and unknown design choices, and this discovery makes me super excited.
So I was messing around trying to get sonic to the boss arena for e101 mk 2 and two things happened: 1: After moving sonic to an absurd y value (using sadx trainer) just before he hit the death plane, but after it went straight to 0, he hit this: Rip sonic, I blame Donnie. 2: After setting Moon Jump to an absurd negative value, somewhere along the line Tikal gave a hint... in Japanese text. I didn't have japanese text on. unfortunately, I didn't get a screen of that but something had to be up there. Edit: Stumbled upon this in my reading of this thread: I call me: http://jul.rustedlogic.net/thread.php?pid=440437#440437 Edit 2: Three Sonic Chronicles Proto screenshots if anyone's interested. those eyes.
There's a older thread which has this tidbit briefly discussed, but I wasn't sure about bumping it; so I decided to raise the question here. So it's been said in both the Pix'n Love History of Sonic book (reportedly by Iizuka himself) and the Console Wars book that Sonic 3 was split in two due to the McDonald's Happy Meal promotion that happened in late 1993/early 1994, and so far I don't think I've seen or read anything that disputes this report. That said, it hasn't been added to the Game Development page of Sonic 3 yet. Is there a particular reason as to why it hasn't been added? Or is it that nobody has really thought about adding it to the page? Honest question.
So. Sonic's Schoolhouse. I've already established it's sourced music from other places - notably, B_.MID is from The Incredible Machine for some reason. However, I still naively assumed most of the compositions were original - my favorite was HEADS.MID, which, as far as I know, is used on the character selection screen. Embedded for your listening pleasure: ...except I now know why I like it so much - it's Simon and Garfunkel. Now I'm wondering if anything in that game's soundtrack was original.
I mean, probably not.( That's an inspired choice though!) And don't forget the matching game music.
Let's not forget, the UK got Burger King toys in November 1993 (the promotion began the same week AoStH started airing I believe). https://youtu.be/2d-ySHywxwc?t=43m3s (43 minutes in)
Evening On the wiki (and probably elsewhere before then) we've had a mockup shot of the special stage from the Sega Saturn version of Sonic 3D (p.s. if anyone knows which magazine this is from, it would be greatly appreciated) Would you like to see it from another angle??? http://retrocdn.net/index.php?title=File%3ASegaMagazin_DE_37.pdf&page=9 Hurray, polygons!
Well, having watched all of that cross-eyed to get the 3D, about the only thing that sticks out is the HUD. =P
In Sonic Adventure, it turns out you can knock Chaos 0 off of the light posts if you go back with the Light Speed Attack in trial mode's boss rush. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnIipeOsxXQ You can get a better look at the animation in this video where I did it using Super Sonic. Also shown: Work in progress HUD scaling.
So today I learned Chaos 0 stands on light posts. Seriously, I just thought he was flying/floating around the arena's sky. I don't know how I never noticed that. There aren't enough :specialed: for me.
On the subject of Sonic Adventure, Sand Hill, that weird, Tails-only stage. You can force Sonic into it with a well placed spindash, but surely this was never meant to happen, right? http://retrocdn.net/index.php?title=File%3ASSM_JP_19981030_1998-31.pdf&page=126 Two months before the game's release. How freaky. (p.s. yes that is the first sighting of Emerald Coast... the first stage in the game - in the beginning it was all about Red Mountain and Speed Highway (plus the occasional shot of Icecap and a batch of Egg Carrier stuff). If you were to translate that article and the subsequent updates, no doubt you'll be able to piece together a fairly meaty history of the game between its announcement and release. There's even precise dates for what Sonic Team did on their holiday).
Well I think it was planned to be accessible somehow anyway, since Sand Hill is a playable option in Sonic's sub-game list after doing it in the story.
