Hi all, I'm new here. I've loved all things Sonic since about 1994. I remember being 6 years old in 1996 and so eagerly awaiting Sonic 3D Blast; I remember TV ads for it and as a kid, it looked like it was going to be the greatest game ever. I like many of you was let down. However, years later, on the internet, I found out about Sonic X-Tree, and I thought "Wow. THIS is what we should've gotten back in 1996. THIS would've been the best game ever." And I've been fascinated by both the game and its development history ever since. I'm a bit confused on a few things though. 1) The 'leak'/unofficial release of the game - Will it ever grow to encompass more than just the first level? What I am also confused about is, the released level, is that an actual level worked on by Sega or was it a level 'rebuilt'? Like, when I play it, am I kind of stepping back to a Sega office in 1996, a snapshot in time - or someone's recreation of it? Does the game exist in full or is it going to be 'rebuilt' by fans? 2) I've seen on youtube videos of a "July 14th 1996" build of Sonic X-Treme for Sega Saturn. Is this the same version as what was released on here - I know Sonic X-Treme went through a lot of versions and iterations? 3) There is a whole playlist of what is supposedly the Sonic X-Treme soundtrack - does anyone know if it is legit, and actually was recorded back in 1996?
You probably should post this question in one of the Sonic X-treme threads like this one here: http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=33545 And please give links to the soundtracks and levels you are inquiring about.
Hi there and welcome to the forum! First off, your questions may have been better placed in this topic here, instead of making a new one. 1) Depends on what version you are playing, I know Andrew75 and co. have made some tweaks to the original levels to at least make them playable, but what your playing is essentially what we have for the moment. 2) V37 does look very close to that version, however I guess we will never know 100% ? 3) Pretty sure Chris Senn released some music from X-Treme, is that what you are talking about? Here's some more info here: http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_X-treme
OOPS,,, I must be tired....... meant to hit edit to add additional links hahaah ANNND I added them to the wrong post at that ! OMG WOW ,,, Just WOW lol You probably should post this question in one of the Sonic X-treme threads like this one here: http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=33545 Release thread for STI Engines, 037 and 040 (PC and Saturn): http://forums.sonicr...opic=34038&st=0 Other POV Saturn Build thread: http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=34255&st=0 We have all the levels from what was shown in the E3 1996 videos minus any of the boss engine footage like the spinning crystal. They will be released eventually, Level editor release will happen next though.
Does this mean you have that Sonic Lost World Tubular-like level in the E3 trailer? This one? (1:09) http://youtu.be/qdBKq7o6RTE?t=1m10s
They have it, yes. Andrew has shown screenshots or a video of it ported to his fan game at one point.
How many levels does that add up to? Also, will you guys incorporate the soundtrack in any way in a final release? By soundtrack, I'm assuming this playlist is the real deal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyAgI3gC_J8&list=PLDE73D1143AE03039 Would there be any way for you guys to recreate the game in FULL (even with levels that were say, planned out but not featured in the E3 trailer) as it was intended in 1996?
It would take a team or many years to reproduce all of the ideas that the Original STI team came up with. God knows I've been working on my own Fan game since 2006 implementing only some of the ideas. Keep in mind that all the levels we have in this leak here were not really true levels, every single one of them are small areas that were built for testing purposes. So,,,, Even if we were to string them together and make a full game out of them as they are now, it wouldn't be much of a game at all. We also do not have all the original concepts for any of the levels that STI planned. The game had way too many concepts, many of which were scrapped, We currently don't know which ones would have been used in a final version of X-treme, (if any of them at that.) ( I would imagine that the current levels could be built upon and made into real levels.) JollyRoger has added the ability to play music in one of the builds. So Yes we may be able to have music in a final release. I can tell you that there are over 30 levels in this leak, many of which are too old to even work in the engines that Jollyroger has been restoring. P.S. I think a mod should condense this thread into one of the other 3 Sonic X-treme threads. This one would be nice http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=33545
Hmm. What about perhaps a compromise, using some of the ideas and levels? Well, isn't there a way to talk to Chris Senn about this? What I mean is perhaps not using every idea or level STI put forth, but some compromise version of a small number of ideas? It'd be nice to someday see X-Treme be a fully realized game :/
Andrew is being entirely too humble by not plugging his wonderful project here. I think you'll like what you see.
