Not to mention that Dust Hill was completed, just renamed.

I suppose it would be an ideal opportunity to use some of Taxman's unused work for Desert Dazzle, which was clearly based on the unused desert level in beta Sonic 2 screenies.

  3. I'm very excited to see these ports.

Also, will be buying the hell out of them, multi platform, and doing the same deal with my friends as with Sonic CD (I'll buy half the game for you, a handful IRL friends took me up on that) so that we see the ultimate version of Sonic 3 and Knuckles, repeat with that, and then MAYBE we get a fan game to buy. Man that'd be sexy.

There's also pink Casino Night Zone, which although granted, wasn't technically cut, could be brought back via an "alternate graphics" mode. Depends how crazy the plans are for the options menu - Sonic's alternative walk/run cycle could feature too

(similarly, given the assets, Marble Zone with UFOs, Sparkling Zone, Labyrinth with different background - all theoretically possible)

It'd be adapting it to look like The Machine from Spinball, as I believe that took over the general theme of the stage. The concept art we had made it look like Scrap Brain also.

But changing Metropolis 3 back to Cyber City in name would only confuse some people, and then it brings the question of how much should be revived, like that one segment we see in the beta, but was removed entirely in the final.

tl;dr: all this is conjecture because we're bored and have nothing to talk about on concrete footing with this game and should all be ignored. :specialed:

I think Brenda Ross said she thought Dust Hill was done, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to work on the next level. So there could be assets for it somewhere. As for restoring Cyber City, maps of possible layouts were shared by Tom Payne I think. With that mockup we found they could possibly create a new level. Also, remember one of the prototypes had unused stuff in Metropolis City 3. That stuff could possibly be brought back. The winter level was gonna use assets from Dust Hill Zone with a different pallette and a few new objects, so that might be doable as well. Hidden Palace Zone is the most complete, but it's not very long, probably half the length of a normal level, or less. Wood Zone was far enough along to possibly restore. New music would need to be composed for most of the levels though, but that shouldn't be too expensive to hire a composer to write just a few songs. That is unless they have scrapped music for them around somewhere. Nearly all these levels mentioned may have assets at Sega somewhere, or with developers that worked on the game.

If the music for Desert Dazzle and Final Fever exist, Taxman should consider releasing them. If he composed them I don't see a problem with that. The effort wouldn't be wasted at least and people would get to hear it.

*dreamy sigh* I was hoping that Shining Force could be one of the next ones to be updated as I actually have that iOS port.

It's like I didn't even post. Dust Hill was completed. It's also known as Mystic Cave Zone.
Edit: Woops, I'm apparently four and a half years behind. My bad.

    Jack shit.
If they are remastering other SEGA games don't expect things like Golden Axe and Streets of Rage 2 to hit XBLA then.

That would be wonderful to see remastered. Shining force, Golden Axe 3, or Sparkster even. Well, they made a 3D remake of Sparkster actually, but I feel like 2D is fitting for classics like those.

I haven't played a version of Ristar since Mega Collection. If I had to ask for any non-Sonic Sega title on Taxman's engine, it's Ristar! The hanging and grabbing moves would probably compliment touch controls well.

    Kinda late, but anyway:

It doesn't. Situation one: the pit kills. Situation two: the pit still kills. No intentions were changed, no flow was stopped. And the one I was complaining to is here.

If they followed the pattern the original game made, even making more levels two player compatible would require new tracks. Alternatively if they wanted to make more levels they could follow the Long Version method and make the VS tunes themes for them.

Sonic CD featured a couple new tracks just for the extra menus, so it's likely they'll need to make an original tune somewhere along the line.

As for the Dust Hill debate, didn't one interview say the unused level was just called the 'Desert Zone'?

Jesus! I remember that! What I don't remember if that was made before the discovery of the Simon Wai Beta or After? Because I remember that fangame being my first taste of the hidden palace, well besides the scrap level left on Sonic 2.

It was confirmed by Tweaker and someone else who emailed a staff member of Sonic Team that the true name was Dust Hill Zone. It should be on the wiki article: Dust Hill Zone

Hmmm, making the Sonic 2 special stage graphics a little more crisp would be nice, being blown up from half the size n'all. Though the GHZ background has the same problem.

(Sorry, that had nothing to do with anything...)

Make Sonic 2 Jump Physics more responsible, quicker and sensitive like a light tap = Oh wait this is for mobile systems. I think you can do that.

Anyways, a light tap means Sonic jumps lightly, and a big tap means bigger. Like fixing the sensitivity and the responsiveness.

You got alot of work to do Tax-Man.

Sega should hire more fan-gamers. And give to the community open-source games in exchange.

Shining Force would be fantastic, if not just to completely fix up the AI.

Remastering the art, though, I feel having the first game's art redone in 3D be rather unfitting, given the style of the original game... best stick with the choppy kinda-cool-looking anime style, y'know?

Either way, I'm drifting away from the point of the topic. Definitely purchasing the pair when released. Doubt I'll actually play them, until I get an appropriate platform that isn't a touch screen phone. My thumbs are too damned big.

I don't own a mobile device to test it but the tap for small jump, hold for high jump should be already in there from the Sonic CD remake. Also you may not be aware but there's more than two jump heights. I can do three different heights but the physics might work off percentages instead due to the way the rebound jump works on monitors and badniks when you hold the jump button down. Considering how close the physics are to the original and also improves in areas the original physics couldn't do I think it's say to say that Taxman has already got this in bag and has done for quite some time.
