Haha, I like how they reused the Sonic CD picture of Sonic holding Amy but removed Sonic so it just looks like she's slidin' along. And Robotnik without his glasses is just creepy. I liked the Mario one though, Mario Land 2 was great.
It should be illegal for Eggman to walk around without glasses. I'm mortified. And now I wanna play on a stage with a floor that's just full of bumps. Hmm, I knew about this as a kid; I could swear I read it somewhere. But I know it could be used to get all 7 emeralds from the start of the game (after you got them normally and pressed RESET, that is). I never knew exactly why or rather what the method was, but I remember doing it at least once.
The Sonic the Hedgehog Amiga clone of the day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_1fME0wPzw Kid Chaos, from 1994
I didn't know there was another song he did in the Robotnik voice besides "It Ain't Easy." Now I just want an animation to this.
Haha, clone indeed. Jump sound, slopes, breakable walls, log bridges, intertwining paths a la CPZ/LBZ, ruins, and most notably monitors! Not sure what the main character is meant to be, though. A gurny blonde kid with a club or something? Was that their attempt at capturing that mythical quality known as “attitude”?
I was playing Generations 3DS the other day, and I noticed something odd about an unlockable song. The version of "Open Your Heart" that plays has both the storm intro/outro and the extra vocal bits. A quick look at the wiki shows that all non-remix versions of the song have either the storm, extra vocals, or neither of them. I guess we can consider this yet another version of the song? EDIT: Oh. Well that's what I meant, no "Alright!" at the beginning. Wrong term used. :v: But still, I think there's no other version that has the storm and the "Alright." They sound so good together!
The version on the SA1 Vocal album (Album Version) has the storm and all the vocals with the exception of the opening "Alright!" which is only heard in-game of SA1. The version that is missing from the wiki though is the instrumental version that plays during the Super Sonic transformation cutscene right before the Perfect Chaos battle in SA1.
Ok so, I have a small question that perhaps it's has been answered before, but couldn't find any information about it... In the movie "Wayne's World" from 1992, I read before on wikipedia that there is some kind of scene where you can watch a TV on the background playing what seems to be a beta of Sonic the Hedgehog. Can someone confirm me if this is right?
Not many know of Takashi Iizuka's career as a professional wrestler! + - Not really, but I found it amusing nonetheless =P
To the Batmobile, let's go. A few other uses of the sample by Hataya and others: Hybrid Front Burning Rangers SFIII 3rd Strike
I noticed that Jun Senoue used a Korg Triton on stage whenever he did renditions of the Sonic 4 melody. I got my hands on the samples for the presets and was able to look at the majority of the patches and noticed a lot of them were used in Episode 1. I recognize most from the Wii version since I did a soundfont a year ago based on them. Here are some patches that I managed to identify: BANK A: A006 Nasty Bass (Splash Hill Act 2 Bass?) A017 Studio Stage EP (Casino Street Act 1 Rhodes) A022 Acoustic Bass (Casino Street Act 1 Bass - Wii version) A028 Rezbo (Splash Hill Zone - one of the 'meow' synths) A038 30303 Mega Bass (recognize this from Wii samples) A041 SFZ Brass ST (Casino Street Act 1 Brass) A070 Euro va Bass (Bass sample best heard in Wii version but probably used in the other versions too) A095 Vibraphone (Used in the Wii version of Casino Street Act 2) A102 Jungle Rez (Splash Hill Zone - one of the other 'meow' synths) A123 Sitar Sitar (I don't think this was used in the final but I do remember this sample in the Wii version) BANK B: B003 Indian Stars (another Sitar sound I recognize from the Wii version but I don't remember it being used) B013 Old Shakuhachi (Lost Labyrinth) B015 Velo Kalimba (Lost Labyrinth) B017 Dyno Tine EP (Casino Street Act 3) B030 Transformation (I recognize this as one of the pads used in Lost Labyrinth - could be wrong) B032 Pop Synth Pad (Mad Gear) B048 Gliding Squares (definitely used, can't remember if it was Mad Gear or Lost Labyrinth though) B081 Vintage El (Casino Street) B090 Marc Tree (Lost Labyrinth) B113 Hybrid Digi Ep (Casino Street Act 2 (prototype) and Act 3 Wii) BANK C: C000 Technophonic (Super Sonic and World Map, possibly Mad Gear too) C048 Square Rez (I think this was used in Splash Hill Act 3) C068 Gamelan Gong (used in a combo instrument patch for Lost Labyrinth Act 1 & 3 I think) C124 Brians Sync (not S4 related but I recognized this from Sonic Heroes - Grand Metropolis) I have BANK D but I don't recognize anything from there. I only have the solo programs and not the actual combination instruments, so I'm still missing a whole bunch of them. There were also some patches that might've been used either in combination of other instruments or slightly altered when used in the song. But I think it's safe to assume that at least as far as Episode I is concerned, most if not all of the synth comes from a Korg Triton (probably the Pro model I think). You can listen to some demos of the programs here. The site has a voice name list and some other guides too. Here's a quick demo I did of Splash Hill Act 3 using some of the patches.
Very interesting find. It seems that one of the comments in that thread is most likely the correct answer about it being a sprite place-holder as it looks like it is doing the sprite that takes knuckles gliding pose (can also be seen if you force sonic into Sky Sanctuary Zone 2). Interesting that they had decided about the palette before the actual character, or maybe they just hadn't created the sprite yet. Either way, it is very interesting.
Wait, so this is an actual find?! Hot damn thats cool!! I posted it here thinking it was probably just another thing we all already knew about.
