None at the moment, sadly...not skilled enough yet!
    Sally roboticized...dammit, killed off AGAIN.

To quote the African-American Heart Monitor: "Oh she dead."

Sonic's body proportions seem waaaaaaay off. That's some weird foreshortening there. I wish Spaz would go back to doing the covers on a regular basis, they've always been much more extravagant to look at.

So...Sonic Universe #34 takes place after Sonic #231 (Which is not out yet). In fact SU #34 may take place after Sonic #232 or during Sonic #234.

Really can't tell at the moment.

Tracy Yardley! stated over on Bumbleking that SU #33 takes place at roughly the same time as Sonic #231, SU #34 at the same time as Sonic #232, and SU #35 and #36 between Sonic #232 and #233.

    I really liked #231.

Metal Sonic Kai 2.0 and Tails Doll (Project Cuddles).

Off Panel was hilarious as well.

  8. Holy Shit. They brought that character into the comic? Awesome. I gotta go get that issue.

Omg Tails Doll? IT BEGINS. If it starts haunting Cream then fucking awesome

And this is why I like Flynn more then I ever liked Penders. He does awesome stuff. Penders made love triangles with furries

I would appreciate if Ian would stop the non-stop action and give them a breather for a little bit. Or at least delve into some personal stuff the way they did during the Iron Dominion.

    Living life.
  12. The one thing Penders did right was give characters time for a breather and to, you know, live. Flynn is 99% non-stop action, mainly because he knows he's primarily catering to kids, and kids these days are dumb as bricks. Granted, Penders gave the wrong characters screentime and stuff did occasionally get boring, but it was still good to have a story with pictures accompanying it, whereas Flynn is action drawings with some words here and there.

99% action? You sure like your hyperbole. Or maybe we've been reading different comics. He does write a sizable amount of action, but it's nowhere near 99%. It isn't even 50%. Sure, there are issues that are all action, but his run as a whole is definitely not purely action. Also, sure like the stealth insult there to people who like Flynn's stuff.

Also, speaking of things getting boring sometimes with Penders' stuff, and action vs no-action: Mobius 25 Years Later. That arc of Ken's lasted for 14 issues straight and nothing happened. There's action-free stories, and then there's stories so devoid of any kind of action whatsoever that pacing dies completely.

An anonymous request for Ken's worst stories, so I guess we need someone to compile the top 5 best and worst Issues of Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog.

The best and issues were not written by Ken. They were written both before and after his time.

I didn't say it have to be the ones written by Ken.

Heck, even during. Some of my favorite issues were written by Karl Bollers. He was able to make each issue feel like it was all part of a bigger event, but not make every particular issue feel like it was constantly moving towards the resolution. I hold that the main story arc encompassing issues #88-100 is one of the most compelling arcs Archie Sonic has ever had. Right up there with "Mecha Madness" and "Endgame."

It has stupid parts, like the love triangle and for whatever reason they decided to include high school, but the idea of Sonic having his hands tied by bureaucracy in addition to having to deal with Overlanders being in mortal peril and Sonic having no way of saving them was extremely interesting to deal with. The whole thing with who had the Sword of Acorns, Kodos slowly going insane and Arachnis (I think that's her name, it's been a long time) deciding to help, all of these separate tracks converged in issue #100 and tied each other off very well, including the "death" of Nate Morgan, which I found very effective as well.

My biggest issue with Ian Flynn's writing is two fold. One, there's no sense of pacing. There's no ebb and flow. Like was stated before, there's no feeling of these characters just "living" like there was from issues #53-100. Everything is happening at once.

Additionally, there is no sense of a multi-faceted world. In Flynn's writing, there is the immediate problem, and really nothing else. There's always something happening, and that engulfs everyone's attention until it is resolved. Then we may get a one issue breather, then right back to the next major story arc. There's no convergence of different situations into a cohesive whole, it's just one straight path from beginning to end. I believe that's the biggest aspect that the comics lost post-issue #100, and is especially obvious from where Flynn began his work.

The comics may have a better sense of consistency now, but has sacrificed a lot of substance in the process. I don't count what Penders did as "substance" mind you, his were essentially convoluted soap operas, but other writers offered a lot of subtlety, something unusual for a licensed kids' character.

Time for some more previews. Along with the two main issues we have three Archives books in the previews this month:

Sounds like someone's dying in #234, according to the writeup for #235.

Anyone else amused at Ken Penders being credited as merely "various" in Knuckles Archives when he was the only writer of the issues featured?

And do we really need this Best Of collection? I thought that was what the Super Special Magazine was intended for.
