I don't think there's an option in the configuration, but the game would probably function perfectly with DxWnd or any other windowing program for DirectX Games. And honestly, if you have the choice of playing the game on a console or on the PC. Pick the PC version, it is that much better. Plus you save quite a bit of money on STEAM or online shopping (if you're in Europe that is). The PC port is a far superior experience, 60fps really does change the game a lot and it looks absolutely beautiful maxed out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7D4nmR8ty8 Japanese AD. Shows a bit of the 3DS version at the very start. Spoiler It's hard to tell if that is the water level from Sonic Rush or Windmill Isle.
Ah I'm on the PS3 and I'm curious as to how in the hell you got that low of a time in online rankings that must be some insane shortcut or something you have there. I can't seem to get that time without using skills.
I'm experiencing a weird PC issue, also shared by this guy over on SPUF. The game runs wonderfully at boot-up, but after a few minutes of playing, the framerate really starts to chug. Never to the point of not being playable, mind, it just frameskips a lot. Here are my specs: 0101 - Operating System : Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506) 0102 - Language : English (Regional Setting: English) 0103 - BIOS : Default System BIOS 0104 - Processor : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.8GHz 0105 - Memory : 8192MB RAM 0106 - Available OS Memory : 8184MB RAM 0301 - Card Name : ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series 0302 - Manufacturer : Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. 0303 - Chip Type : ATI display adapter (0x68B8) 0304 - DAC Type : Internal DAC(400MHz) 0305 - Device Key : Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68B8&SUBSYS_25431002&REV_00 0306 - Display Memory : 749 MB 0307 - AdapterRAM : 1.00 GB 0308 - Current Mode : 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (60Hz) I notice the guy experiencing this also has an ATI card, so maybe that's it? Anybody with a similar card experiencing this?
Beat the game. Fantastic and worth the wait. Superior game to everything else released so far. Both sides were fun. After trying the PS3 retail version and 360 demo, all I can say is. If you got the PC capable to run this flawlessly, get it on PC. And I mean flawlessly. The frame rate makes a huge difference in controls and also makes it a much more visually pleasing experience. One question though Spoiler Did the final boss make any fucking sense to anyone else? Not plot wise but gameplay wise. There was too much shit going on the screen and both Sonics are incredibly small that I can't even tell where I am half the time. I managed to clear it with an S-Rank. I have no idea how but fuck. It was such a visual cluster fuck.
Judging by the fact that they're houses and a lot farther on the horizon, I don't see how it can be anything other than + - Windmill Isle . I'd be very surprised if that doesn't play a lot like the Rush titles, though.
Spoiler Visual clusterfuck indeed. The normal mode is just annoying, but by God the Hard Mode version takes fucking forever. You can never see the Rings coming in time to do something about it and the repetition of character dialogue is fucking annoying, like, Sonic '06 Solaris Battle annoying. It's too bad, because the boss had a lot of potential in the way of a 3D Doomsday Zone boss (which would have been a fantastic way to end this particular game), but the act of getting TO the boss in order to hit him is so fucking tedious. And to be honest, I've played it twice in Normal and once on Hard... and I'm not sure I've actually figured out what it is I'm supposed to be doing to close the distance.
Having already played the Steam version, I love it. Although now I have to either mess around with my gamepad so I can get it to actually work or get a new one. Playing using the Keyboard is confusing, even if you have it set up however you want it. Even with that, a few of the first acts are really easy to S-rank, but that is probably going to change once I get past the first parts of the game. This is the first "modern" Sonic game from the main console series I have played since Sonic Heroes (If you want to count it, Technically Shadow the hedgehog is the last game, but that was a spin-off), so I am still getting used to how Modern Sonic works, I always end up running straight into a wall when I want to slide.... Oh well, Practice makes perfect.
I love this. I haven't enjoyed a Sonic game this much since Adventure 2. Spoiler Yeah, this was the only disappointing part of the game for me. I could handle weird gameplay, but it really could have used more rings.
It sounds like Sonic Colors is the game for you. And I agree this game is in city overdrive. What a disgrace to the Sonic Adventure series that they include two levels and a boss that are boring-ass cities.
Most of Modern Sonic's skills are pretty boring, but this one has potential for amusement just for how trollishly designed it is: Spoiler
Spoiler Endless Boost is a fun inclusion, because it's like a built-in "zero rings" challenge mode. But yeah, most of Modern's skills are pretty uninteresting. Not necessarily unhelpful, but uninteresting.
Well... Spoiler Well I think you are supposed to launch the other Sonic at him repeatedly to slow him down, kind of like the meteors did for Shadow's fight. I'm not 100% sure on this but it seems to be what you are supposed to do to close the distance quickly. Otherwise I wouldn't see the point of being able to throw the other Sonic...
Spoiler I threw the other Sonic on multiple occasions and it didn't seem to do anything. Pumping the boost button instead of just holding it seemed to have an effect, but I'm not sure if it brought me closer to Time Eater or just made the wreckage and projectiles go by faster.
Spoiler Well if that's the case then I suppose hurling the other sonic really is just kind of pointless, never seemed to do anything else huh? I didn't try repeatedly tapping the boost but I didn't think it would have an effect since they got rid of that glitch for normal stages... Hmm this is quite perplexing.
Spoiler As someone who appreciated S&tSR for what it was, getting the skill "time break" for modern sonic brought a smile to my face. Also, I just wanna say how much I "Loathe" Egg Dragoon on Hard, I'm so frustrated at this poorly-made boss. For one, you can only move on the main ground by sidestepping and its incredibly annoying as you have to side step at least 7-10 times to get to one side to the other... Next, when grinding on the rails or hopping on one, I'm having the most difficult time of actually landing on the damn things. When I go to switch rails, Sonic either barely misses the rail or hops over it...WTF!? Lastly, when Eggman closes you off between the 2 walls, you barely have enough time to wall jump between the closely placed fireballs and I have no fucking clue where the hit indicators are at, sometimes I completely go through the fireball untouched and others, I barely touch the tip of the trail of the fireball and get hurt. Once you fall once in Hard, most likely you won't have enough time to make it to the top and get crushed by the walls. Hes easily the most difficult and unfair boss I have EVER played in the entire franchise, even Sonic 2 GG wasn't this frustrating for me. This is such a pain to win an avatar award... Also Time Eater was a stupid boss, I didn't know what the hell I was doing... and beat him. EDIT: My bad, I said fireballs *doh I meant to say Ice...balls.... whatever. 2nd EDIT: "Time for a change of pace!" is also the new "Get a load of this!" 3rd EDIT: finally beat him over 30 tries, never again...
I didn't play the boss myself, but from what I saw around the internet... Spoiler You also need to exchange Sonics acording where Time Eater is, Inside the tunnel, you use Modern, when he's outside you use Classic to force a 2-D prespective, I also heard that Classic is also nice to catch rings because of this prespective thing. As much this makes sense, I warn that these are stuff I heard around, I couldn't confirm it myself.
The configuration.exe wont' allow me to select my second VGA (first HD3000, second GT520M, I'm with a notebook during the week). I'm playing to 640x400 at 30fps lol. Too bad also the joypad's lags on the menu, but the rest of the game IS AWESOME!!!! Modern's gameplay is a lot better than Colors for me, and Classic is a bit better than MegaDrive. Awesome levels, awesome contents, awesome soundtrack... This game is fucking epic!!!
Walked into Gamestation to pick up a PS3 copy, it came with Casino Night Zone, didn't need to preorder or anything.
For all those wondering what the PC version looks like and/or wanting to see pretty pictures... Here's an album I've made full of images. There are a few spoilers for the beginning-third of the game, though, so watch out!
