Seriously? Gawd, these are dire. They sound like some horrible default MIDI soundfont with flat horns and bad note cutoffs. Casino Night and Emerald Hill sound especially sour and unpleasant.

And it's for those exact reasons that we're not using tracks even remotely like that. We already revealed on the facebook page that Tee Lopes has been making the soundtrack for S2HD, so if you've heard his work on Youtube you have a good idea of what you can look forward to in the game.

We're still debating whether to include an option to have the original tracks available for purists.

I hope that doesn't mean you're throwing out the other Chemical Plant Zone track (by ScubaSteve I think it was). It's much nicer than the one on Tee Lopes' Youtube.

So you are using that EHZ and CPZ from his channel there? If you are, it'll take some time getting used to.

EDIT: No wait, EHZ has those annoying jingle bells and Chemical Plaints sounds like it's straining to talk on the toilet. Seriously, just saying he has to get the atmosphere of these stages correct, this music doesn't put me in the same mood, and some parts weren't in the original tune (and thus worse than the rest of it).

Yes I agree completely with this statement keep scubasteve's version of Chemical Plant it's brilliant and it plays real homage to the original.

    EDIT:

If anything the ones I'm hoping for of Scuba's that are available (or was) to the public are EHZ, CPZ, WFZ, DEZ and both boss themes. I actually listen to these versions from time to time on my PC because I think they are great so I really hope that these versions are still in. Even if you have multiple versions from Scuba and Tee lopes it would be great to completely customize which ones you can have playing for each zone.

I don't agree with using music from just one person, especially seeing as others spent time contributing perfectly fine bits of work. With the graphics, sure - everything needs to fit in. With the music... that sort-of depends on the zone. The composition needs to fit in a Sonic game... but that's already done for you. They had multiple composers in 1992 too.

If this is an example of what's to come, there's an annoying note in EHZ that needs fixing and the special stage music is cut short. And as great as some of the tracks are (the special stage music is the best I've heard, bar the fact it's not composed correctly), there were better alternatives to Chemical Plant and Metropolis I'm sure. I kinda liked this one.

As far as I'm aware you can still submit music if you want to and it will be considered for the game but I will point out that all the music should be mixed, mastered and finalized by the same person to avoid bad mixing and to have each BGM to have equal sound levels on all tracks. Maximizing the music tunes quality is just as much of an art as drawing uber art for this game.

Considering how I've stated repeatedly that Ransom Rath's Metropolis and Mesmonium's Oil Ocean were shoe-ins as bonus tracks at the very least, there's no need for concern over that.

As for the tracks listed on Youtube that Tee has done for EHZ and CPZ as of two years ago, neither of those are being used in S2HD. He's done entirely new work for us.

Black Squirrel, the link that you listed is much different. I can confirm that those are indeed tracks planned for inclusion in the final game. :) Tee has been producing those for us since last summer. As for one note being off... really now?

I've just listened to Tee Lopes's Youtube video and I really like most of it. Metropolis and Chemical Plant are a bit lacking and the eerie sound in Mystic Cave might not sound theremin-ish enough, but anyway.

Would there be an option for "old graphics + new sound", as well? If only just for a little variety after making through the game.

That's something I really missed in Monkey Island Deluxe.

But... Why not fix it? Unless it's something made on purpose, of course.

That's what feedbak is for, isn't it?

The only problem have with that music is the fact that in EHZ, some sections miss out certain notes. This is deliberate, but annoying. And that is very small so you must be doing something right.

About that guy I submitted- yeah, a few of his works could use some tweaking, but if you don't like his Oil Ocean, Mystic Cave or Aquatic Ruins, there's something wrong. Those tracks are perfectly able to replicate the original sound. I actually think many current tracks for S2HD- like Aquatic Ruins for example- feel a bit weak.

It's not an error -- everything Tee has done to slightly alter the original theme is deliberate, he's told us as much. The consensus I'm seeing here is that you all like his work, so being annoyed over something that minuscule strikes me as more than a little ridiculous. I've said for a very long time that our best submissions make use of artistic license, and this is a prime example of it.

Yes, we do ask for feedback. You have to remember that feedback goes both ways.

Care to elaborate a bit on that? I'm not sure what you're getting at.

As for old graphics and new sound, why do you want that? If you want to play Sonic 2 at 4x with new music, there's already emulators that will easily accomplish that. S2HD aims to be a different visual experience, so I don't understand why you'd think taking away the very thing that makes the project what it is is a good idea. I'm not throwing stones here; I honestly don't understand your reasoning on it.

Just so you guys know, let the composers know that I play brass (trumpet, trombone, bass trombone) in local professional jazz ensembles in my part of the US now and then to fill in for pros when they call in sick. If they need real brass for anything, I have access to real recording equipment, etc. It doesn't make sense t have real guitar stuff but for there to be cheapy sounding brass hits.

One thing that I have been wondering since I saw that new S2HD logo, What happened to the idea that Knuckles would a playable character. Since there is a little bit of sonic and tails in the logo but no knuckles, does this mean that knuckles has been scrapped from the game.

Also is there any plans of gamepad support?? (X360 gamepad anyone) Personally I can wait a couple extra months to get that so we don't have to use a keyboard and mouse.

Nothing happened to the idea of him being a playable character; he's been confirmed to be included since the project's very beginning. We haven't made anything related to his art as of yet because we've been polishing the process by which all the characters are made (as seen in the character changelogs).

We haven't specifically put any coding for gamepads in, but the vast majority out there can be mapped easily enough with a program like Joy2Key.
