Here I show you this game, who is being developed by FacundoARG, all by himself. It's a port of Sonic Jump (from cell phones) to Sega Saturn. You already know the difficulty of programming for Saturn, that's why this project has so much merit. The game is still under developement, but it already looks great , like you can see. The information is taken from Segasaturno, a spanish forum dedicated to Sega Saturn. There is the link of the original source and information

Looks pretty cool so far! Haven't seen much Saturn homebrew before. :)

Though I can't say I'm a fan of the jumping (just going straight up and straight down at a constant velocity). Make it parabolic if possible.

Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
    Why Saturn?

  4. Mi first post here.
Thanks RACCAR for the post, I'm current a trial member :ssh::specialed: .

The original game does not goes down, always goes up, if you do not do this you die.
However, these videos are for the engine test.

Anyone knows the original acceleration of the sprite when you touch the keys in any Sonic's game?

    Thanks again RACCAR.

PD: the source code is not available :( .

    You're asking the wrong question.

    Why Sonic Jump?

Not really. I'm assuming he thinks its a fun game. More power too him.

But as stated by OP, the Saturn is a bitch to program for.

Huh, I didn't know this game existed.
So it's basically Sonic DoodleJump? Neat.

Writing my own MD/Genesis sound driver :D
Pretty cool! How are you developing this — in C? In SH-2 assembly? And what exactly do you have from the original Sonic Jump to use as reference (or are you recreating everything from scratch?). And good luck with the contest!

  11. Why Saturn? because Saturn made me an systems engineer :D.
The game es simple, but the idea it's develop an stable engine running on Sega Saturn.

I have some tools to extract the images from a J2ME game. xD

The code it's totally in C, a few lines are in asm.

Why Sonic jump? because it is simple, and will be the first REALLY homebrew game.

    Vamos River Plate.

  12. lol at a mobile game being ported to saturn

I played this a few years ago on my t-mobile sidekick lx (which I still have and use), and I beat it within a few days. First few stages are easy but the difficulty gets highly cranked really fast in the later stages, specially cause theres ALOT more gaps that are easy death traps (I.e. traditional Dimps level design, although im not sure if they had part of this game). they even have an extra stage if you get all the emeralds. overall, its not bad, but it gets monotonous quickly

Sik was making Sonic Jump for MD at some point, unfortunately he canned it :(

All this Saturn stuff makes me want to deal with it too... I will love Saturn, that's for sure ^^

Could be. But I didn't want to make assumptions, so I asked what the reasoning was.

Friggin' loved the Saturn. Great 2D powerhouse, decent 3D (PS1 was better in most regards, though), brilliant (if expensive) library... thing doesn't get enough credit.

That being said, interesting choice for homebrew. Do fix the gravity, though; pretty simple, really, just have a variable for y-velocity and add to it every set amount of time, and move Sonic that many pixels each frame (or do a for loop in which you move Sonic 1 pixel that many times, I dunno). I forget if that's the Euler method or Verlet integration, though, and Wikipedia is just making it more confusing than it need be, so...

This thing looks pretty awesome. At last, a original Sonic platformer for the Saturn. Not a repackaging of the Mega Drive games anyway.

    Indeed!

Also, I'm all for re/creating games for older platforms, so I endorse his attempt. I, myself, am looking toward to learn a little more about the 32X game development, and them create something for it. Oh man, I'm sure going to create a Silent Hill fan game for the 32X!
