  1. Meh. Senoue isn't that bad. His work on the 3D games is a sign of that. Unless you don't like rock music.
I find it really hard to believe that a composer would limit himself to use crappy synth for a soundtrack on purpose. Most likely, said limitations were forced upon him/the sound team.

What really enrages me is that they keep saying at interviews that the homing-attack is optional, and in reality, it isn't. I can enumerateat least three of the most important places that homing-attack is obligatory:

Splash Hill Zone ACT 3: Right in the end of the level. Home-attack the chain of enemies above the huge bottomless-pit, otherwise face death.
Casino Street Zone ACT 3: Also, at the end of the level. Except after this section there's an obnoxius platforming section that is not good due to the "air halt."
Mad Gear Zone ACT 1: In the end as well, wtf. Just before the loooong trap of things-that-stomp-you-that-I-don't-know-the-name.

And that reminds me: Every level has 'something,' purposedly placed at the end of the level to make you lose all of your rings/die, so you can't access the Special Stage of that level. Never there are more than 50 rings in the last place the last lamp post is positioned, and 99% the time you cannot backtrack to collect more 50 rings because the path is unaccessible for some reason or another. That's what I call carefully planned level designing leads! :v:

  3. Right......that is what I can Eggmanland HD syndrome.
The level starts out challenging. Then you get to the walking-over-lava-on-thin-pipes which is unfair because there is NO shadow.
Then at the end of the level everything wants you dead to kill your chances of an S-rank.

Did they say they were addressing said cheapness?

They didn't say anything about this exactly. but they agreed that the traps were unfair, such as the afore-mentioned moving walls.

  5. I assume this includes Badnik placement...

I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
Well, the air-halt's the thing specifically mentioned as getting fixed, so at least that platforming section at the end of Casino Street won't be as obnoxious anymore.

Although personally I thought that bit looked good.

  7. Well, it did look good.
Now that they say they will be changing the air-halt at least it should play as good as it looked.

    All the bitches.

There is a very big difference to how something looks, and how it plays.

  9. Whatever the case may be, I hope those taking part in the conference get those questions up there.
I don't want this game to be bad, so if they listen to you guys, it could very well end up being one of the 2D Sonic games.

looks good != plays good =/

Seriously, I just want to see who isn't going to die in their first try. You jump, but Sonic goes too fast when he's airborn, so your aumotical reaction is to adjust the speed to you land on the plataform. You let go of the right button to press the left button in order to adjust the speed. Too bad, you just let go of the right button, now Sonic halts in the air, and you have just missed the platform, before even reaching it.

Not to mention, right in the last platform, there's a line of bumpers, and you need to let the platform fall, so you can jump in the middle of them. The jump is so bad, the way the bumpers are positioned it makes you think that you can jump past above them, but your jumping abilities simply don't let you.

I had to adapt myself to Sonic 4, to a point that I have been completly poisoned by it's terrible physics that I even know what to do and when, to a point that I even forgot how the Genesis games played. Thankfully, Mercury brough the antidote with the Sonic Physics Guide, so I could once again remember how the classic games played.

Edit: lol, ninja'd by Polygon Jim.

Even if it isn't purely classic gameplay, at least it'll actually be finished at the end of the day. That's more than can be said for 96% of fan projects.

Endri, pay attention. The "air halt" is something that was mentioned by Jim as being an issue that actually will be addressed. I just now mentioned that change as a reason it will no longer be obnoxious. This is not your cue to cite the "air halt" as a reason that section will not be fun to play. Thank you for following the logical process of responding to a discussion topic.

You probably just need a well-aimed Air Dash, actually.

    So it's sorta like Rush's.

    I'm fine with that.

It's a matter of money, time and resources, which Sega has, but the community doesn't.

And it's a matter of talent, of which this community has in abundance and Sega doesn't.

Doesn't really seem fair now does it? Considering there have been a few projects that we would be proud to officially call Sonic 4.

I's personally take a finished Nexus/Retro XG over this bollocks any day. "Sonic 4" doesn't even look fit for fucking SAGE.

  15. Rush did the same thing with its jumps.
You have no sideways momentum. To some its hard to adjust to. To me, it doesn't make much of a difference because I can adapt to changes readily, but I can see why its HUGELY jarring to other players.

I'll probably end up buying Sonic 4 next summer due to me starting A-levels. It will be interesting to see how it has progressed at that point.

Barely anybody from SEGA is actually working on the game. If Sonic Team had been working on it, I'm pretty sure it would have been much better.
And, why don't those talented people join SEGA?

    Why? It's terrible.

...Also apparently irrelevant since they seem to be addressing that, but yeah, as it stands now, it's terrible.

    EDIT @ Scartillery:

I made less trouble in Sonic Rush due to that game having little emphasis on actual platforming.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I love Retro XG more than any other fan project, and I want nothing more than to see it done so we have something we can be proud to call the successor to Sonic 3K. But Taxman has been extremely busy with other stuff, so we're still not likely to see it done any time soon.

I guess it's a case of "a hungry animal will eat anything". I want a new, even somewhat classic Sonic game, and Sonic 4, even if it isn't the manifestation of a classic Sonic nerd's wet dream like Retro XG is, is still an improvement over stuff like Sonic Rush.

...is going to, will be, shall be... it's all part of the future. I'm not talking about the future, I'm talking about the here and now. As far as development is concerned, no one is able to determinate if these changes are becoming real, if at all. So, to all extents, what is valid is what we have here now. If the changes do happen, however, I'll save analisys for them, when they happen. By the way, you are the one who needs to pay attention. Polygon Jim didn't say they are going to "fix the air halt," since it wasn't even addressed in the conference in the first place. Aaron mentioned "jump physics," and with that alone, you cannot determinate if he was talking about the aerial friction rather than the actual jump physic itself, since the aerial friction is something that affects and pertains more to the general airborn physics than preciselly the jump. And come to me saying "common sense", because common sense does't apply in this case; different minds thinks different, so you cannot tell what Aaron meant by "jumping physics."

Tell me how it went after you try.

Seriously, this topic is so full of cancer and abortion; that's why I try to avoid it at all costs.

Then why respond to my post in which I readily mention that this aspect was obnoxious, as if I'm not aware of it?

All I can say is that it looks like a really easy thing to do and that the only time I've seen someone fail at that jump is when they were attempting to jump through the bumpers manually for whatever reason. Frankly I'm more concerned by the jumping mechanics not being up to snuff for the other jumps.

  20. What can I say other than:

Episode 1 is a BETA. No, I am well aware that its the finished version, but from what I've heard, its handles more like a BETA...no actually it seems to handle like an ALPHA build.
Lets hope that they either pay close attention to what Jim and Endri are saying and use Sonic Retro's Physics guide, OR DIMPS are fired and are replaced by Sonic Team after Colours is finished.
