Wait, I missed this. When was Wipeout HD released on a BD-Rom? Warhawk and Socom were released on BD-Rom, but to my knowledge Wipeout HD never got a retail release.

    Wanna buy it?

Curiously it isn't on amazon.co.uk or play.com - might be an exclusive, seeing as the two stores linked are the same company.

The following links are results I got for stores I've never used, and as such cannot vouch for - but I see no reason why they shouldn't be OK...

    http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/produc...itle=wipeout_hd
    http://www.gameseek.co.uk/pd/PS3z3nmhhhanq9/

Non-system-locked games are win - and iirc, buying it on this disc actually works out cheaper than on PSN...!

EDIT: And afaik only Europe and Asia (note NOT Japan) have this release. No retail Wipeout HD for the USA - though as PS3 is region free, there's nothing to stop an import:
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-bp-49-en-70-3j0k.html - they won;t ship the HK disc to the EU, but I'm betting the USA is OK. Having said that, check the above links too to see if they ship to you, but PlayAsia says this release IS in English...

Weird, I think this might be a UK only deal. Doesn't matter, though, since as you pointed out, the PS3 is (awesomely) region-free.

I already have Wipeout HD though, so this is pointless to me. Fantastic game, though.

    EDIT: Damn your stealth edit!

Oh, forgot to mention - it covers the expansion of Wipeout HD Fury, too.

I didn't say this dude, a Treyarch employee who's working on the game did. Those graphics are not indicative of the final game, and especially when you compare it to the Wii version of World at War, there's no way they could be.

Oh and neogaf is a casual gaming website lololololololololololololol

Because it's impossible to port an engine to Wii? That's what Square-Enix did with Crystal Tools and what Capcom just did with MT Framework (funny you should mention that specifically).

Or hell, even Sonic Unleashed. I don't know why Sega decided to completely change the game for the Wii port. Both versions run on Havok, the only difference being that the PS3/360 version has Hedgehog engine for lighting effects.

Dead Rising is the definition of a sloppy port. It was made on the cheap to capitalize on the success of RE4 Wii Edition, which was in turn a fantastic port. I never said the Wii wasn't even on par with the 360 or PS3, don't put words in my mouth, but if you really think that the shitty version of Dead Rising that Capcom put out is the best they could do then you ain't knowin shit cuz.

Great but I'm not the one who's like "BLARGH GENESIS AND SNES SUCK AND UR DUM FOR PLAYIN IT DERP" I'm not sure why Wii haters are at such discontent to simply let people play their damn games instead of bitching about it every two seconds.

And besides, you're missing the point entirely. What the fuck makes a 90s-esque platformer so power consuming that Sega would have to shaft Wii owners?

Havok is just a physics engine, the HE does everything else. I suspect the Wii can't handle Unleashed's long draw distance.

That's cool, Overlord. I downloaded Wipeout HD and the Fury expansion some time ago and still play it today. :v:
At least this should have more people play the game online.

Back to Sonic, I'm not sure why the Wii's being talked about, this being a HD game and all.

Admittedly I'm no programmer so I don't know how difficult it'd be, but would HD really be that big of a barrier? There are plenty of games that are released in HD on Xbox Live Arcade and still get a WiiWare release.

That's possible, but it's not like they couldn't have simply recreated Unleashed on Wii using their own engine. The final Gaia fight level thing is the same in both versions. I can't imagine it would be any more expensive than drawing up entirely new maps for the levels like they did.

    MIDI-to-SMPS-conversions, mostly. Takin' requests, too.
Am I the only one who can't see the letters HD in the trailer? :psyduck:

That aside, these days, HD can mean anything - either the standard of resolution, but also just the literal "high definition", which does not necessarily mean that stuff that goes beyond the Wii's capabilities. (usually, it DOES mean that, but... still. )

The teaser was accompanied by an interview, you can find it on Game Spot.

Two different development teams working on two different games.

  13. Cooljerk, I never once said "pre-beta". What you said isn't entirely true either. Graphics can be "dumbed down" to a less powerful consoles potential and the proof would be all of the Playstation games that were also on Nintendo 64. Perhaps it is YOU who doesn't have an idea how game designing works because sound too, can be reduced to a weaker consoles standards.
I mean c'mon, there are hackers who make pirated games using this method, like in that dokey kong country NES port:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBeD-kEHy3E
I have never played it, hell, I've only played a few pirates. Im just using this as an example.
If a bunch of mediocre hackers do it. Then so can sega. Alot of games were released on Playstion and N64, and n64 is more powerful than Playstation.
I'll admit it though, as far as frames, draw distanse, etc. are concerned, I really don't know a whole lot about that stuff.

  14. 2 things to note:

    1. The pirate wasn't developed at the same time as the original DKC or by the original dev team.
    2. The hardware difference between the N64 and the PS1 is much smaller than that between the PS3/360 and the Wii

Over a hundred pages of discussion over a single 27-second trailer? At this rate, Sega doesn't NEED to build up the hype any more with screens or videos. You guys are all hyping it up FOR them.

But yeah, I've never been one to buy into the hype of any new game, especially well before it's even given a proper release date. I miss the old days when game magazines were the main source of info, and you'd get maybe a full page (if that) of screens and such previewing a new game and nothing more until the game was actually released. You'd get slightly excited about it, but so much that you would get completely worked up over it. That way, when the game did finally come out, your expectations wouldn't be so high that if the game was a dud you'd be completely pissed about it.

Nowadays there are half a zillion gaming sites who are all way too quick to give out any new information, trivial or not, about upcoming games. And so often it happens that the hype is built up so much over time that when the game is released, a select few people are somehow left underwhelmed with the experience. And this is the problem with leaking information well before the game is ready to come out. The more hyped up it gets, the more excited people get about it, and thus the more disappointing it will be if and when that game doesn't quite meet certain expectations. This is why I shy away from gaming sites and "teasers" made by the developers themselves. I'll only go check out information and reactions from games that have already been released.

As you can probably tell, I'm not buying into this one bit. Sega needs to spend all their time actually developing this into a good game rather than periodically releasing new information every single time they make a slight bit of progress with it. I'll only believe it's a good idea AFTER it comes out and gets a positive reaction from the fans.

no. I'm a total n00b at that stuff but i want to learn
Oh man! That's gonna be freaking sweet! Ahhh the opening music of Sonic 1 is playing in my head! Hopefully there's more than one playable character. But I mean like Tails, Knuckles etc. Not Big the Cat. Hopefully everyone from the Megamix though.

  18. I know, isn't it amazing? Just imagine how big this topic's going to be once screenshots are released. :eng101:

  19. Over 9000 pages, of course.

Or maybe SEGA won't say anything else about the game, no screenshots, no trailers, no info, total media blackout. And then just release it.
And all the hype from this single trailer would get them 100 kajillion sales.

Clearly they're just biding their time before showing to people that it actually becomes a very bad music rhythm game at night.
