I just had a dream last night were I was capable of running just as fast as Sonic. I could feel my feet just barley touching the ground, because as soon as they hit, they immediately came back up within a split second for my next step. Another great thing was is I can actually remember what it felt like to run that fast, and let me tell you, it was the most incredible sensation I have ever felt in my life. I had always wanted to know what it was like to run that fast, and now I finally know! :)

I know what you mean. Maybe in 10~20 years, this is what it will be like to play the latest Sonic game....

I literally just had this dream where Sega released a special new version of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, where all the levels were converted into 3D, but you could also play it in 2D - and there would be secret entrances within the levels themselves that took you to new levels. It was kind of weird, because it wasn't the focus of the dream, I was just playing it and showing someone the new stuff.

My dreams will often transition between different places and subjects, and the nature of entities will often change. I liken them to "If Rez had gravity and looked normal". I will often be unable to identify what a person or object is supposed to be. I had a recent Sonic related dream, but this time it was more like my normal dreams:

So it started out much like that episode of Dragonball where Goku was in that big city looking for Bulma. It didn't seem like it was meant to be the very same city, as it had a variety of cues that seem to have come from the Oasis district from Red Faction 3. Another major difference was that Sonic seemed to show up in place of Goku, and was looking for one or more of the Dragonballs rather than for Bulma. The earliest chronological point I can clearly recall was when Sonic boarded some sort of Ferris Wheel kind of thing, only it was constructed more like a water wheel. It had individual glass stalls with no function for righting the rider. Apparently, a Lucario had entered the stall just in front of the one Sonic was in. He broke through the wall separating them and punted Lucario out the side. Stuff goes hazy for a while, then Sonic gets the last Dragonball, which allows him to turn into Super Sonic for some reason. This allows him to take on some kind of indistinct foe. At some point during the confrentation, I "replaced" Sonic. I know I took his place rather than became him, because I still had my clothes. At the turning point in the battle, the environment was also replaced by the same kind of distorted version of a certain part of my house that a nightmare I had years ago (I'm talking lower school) took place in. What's interesting was that I still retained the Super form (Super Phos?). Perhaps the villain was the same prick who kept running past and knocking me over with that giant foam crayon, or perhaps the source of that voice that scared me so much.

Sometimes if I'm thinking about something while dozing, my subconscious will take something and run with it. After playing the last part of Unleashed followed by Lava Reef -> Doomsday Zone, I was thinking about the difference between them, and my subconscious formed the basis of what I think is a very workable formula for proper Sonic in 3D.

I've had Sonic Unleashed dreams where I'm running through newer parts of some of the stages, like exploring more of the sewers in Spagonia's Entrance Stage, and breaking out of the 2D sections of Windmill Village 1. Whether it's me playing a game, or literally me as Sonic is usually a toss up, and I can't recall ever dreaming about being/playing as the Werehog.

But in relation to Phos's post, I ran through the final bits of Sonic Unleashed (360) this morning, from Tornado Defense 2 onward. In a way you can compare this process to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, with a "sky" stage to Eggman's new mechanical playground, to an epic multi-phase final boss on the way to and in an 'extreme environment' (space, or in Unleashed's case, Earth's core). I'm having trouble explaining this, but there's parallels to be drawn there, trust me.

    S3&K: Sky Sanctuary->Death Egg->series of boss phases->Doomsday
SU: Tornado Defense 2->Eggman Land->series of boss phases->Perfect Dark Gaia

Then again....it's a process that isn't exactly uncommon. Sonic 2 sort of went this route, though a the execution was much, much simpler. Several other Sonic games use this 'formula' as well. I doubt this is the same 'formula' Phos is referring to, but...you know. Whatever. I had fun going on about it for a few minutes.

The differences I was thinking about was "Why is it Sonic 3 fun but Sonic Unleashed is not?"

And the set up for this Sonic game was more like a second of video from it. It mostly made me realize how little needed to be changed for Sonic to function in 3D.

So what little needs to be changed for Sonic to function in 3D? Or did you just "know" in the dream, and have forgotten?

  9. You know how you'll have like 3 or 5 unrelated dreams that make up your whole dream for a night?

well, last night each segment of my dream was transitioned by 2D sonic game play sequences/minigames

I photoshopped one that I remember very clearly, it was a mash-up of that one bonus game and endless mines (that were strangely half under water)

yeah, in my dream there were walking segments and orbiting segments, and you had to escape from the rising water levels.

that was just one part. there were like 3 other levels last night that I can't really remember in detail (I wanna say one was CPZ, I dunno)

  10. Speaking of said dream level... anyone think this would make a cool new sonic mechanic? like a pinball replacement of Casino and Carnival Night Zone type levels?

Would this be easy to hack?

I had the best dream a while back...

DETECTIVE KNUCKLES AND THE MYSTERY OF THE DEAD BAT.

So it all started in a bar: Eggman's bar "Over Easy", to be exact. In the middle of a chilly night at this bar in the downtown slums of Eggmanland, government agent Rouge was getting a scrambled egg martini when suddenly she was killed by a bullet to her chest. Upon investigating the scene the next day, reporters had found that she had been robbed of a jewel: the Master Emerald, which was obtained for government uses (they contacted the government and that's how they found out she had that).

Being the owner of the Master Emerald, Detective Knuckles got on the case! He put on his OVA shades & hat, and then put on a magical trenchcoat, in which it's magic power was to be awesome.

Knuckles searched the crime scene, only to find fingerprints that matched with the I.D. of bar-owner Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik. Eggman was quickly imprisoned for murdering the government spy, but Knuckles decided that wasn't enough and went to interrogate him. After questioning him enough, Knuckles noticed that if he (Eggman) was to grab her in order to kill her, that wouldn't make any sense since it was a gunshot that killed her. Eggman stated that he was just trying to carry her to safety when all the sudden he found she wasn't breathing. Eggman then told the echidna that the man who shot her was behind the bar when it happened (Eggman couldn't tell who it was; the surveillance cameras were really fuzzy). So Eggman was freed from South Island Prison.

Knuckles glided farther across the globe, searching for clues. He interrogated Vector, one of the DJs, and bartenders at the club. Vector was freaking out, and started saying he "wasn't going to spill the beans on his friend". Knuckles started punching Vector rapidly in the face; Vector was going out of his senses, yelling random things like "FIND THE COMPUTER ROOM". Until he ended up spurting out exactly what Knuckles needed. "He wanted...the power... the ultimate...power...". Things were clearing up for Knuckles. Knuckles swooped from the scene, without a trace except for a bloody crocodile laying in the corner.

Knuckles headed torwards Station Square. He knew who was behind this. He headed around the Main Street corner whenever he ran into him. Shadow the Hedgehog.

A bartender at the Over Easy, he'd been a growing Chaos Crack addict for several years, trying to obtain that high of "the Ultimate Power". Desperate for the power (smelling it in the air), Shadow quickly pulled a shotgun out on Rouge and took her life. Quickly fleeing the scene, he took the Emerald with him and told Vector "to tell no-one, especially a certain detective echidna". He soon went to a slum in Station Square, trying to grind it up with his spikes and snort it.

Shadow was arrested and taken to be trialed, soon to realize that he would have to attend Grandma Prison, where he'd scrub the feet of old ladies for years to come.

—And then I woke up. :psyduck:

I haven't laughed like that for a while.

Man, I wish my dreams were that awesome... none of them are Sonic related for a start (Nor to they seem to have much relation to my interests as of late).

I haven't had any Sonic related "dreams" that I can remember. But I can remember several nightmares from my childhood.
One being that a giant Scratch and Grounder were out trying to kill myself and my family. I remember some giant sewer like area where I was spying on them from around the corner as they had their back turned. Then, I rushed through some passage that lead to my old bedroom where I built a fort with my brother to prepare a defense against them.

Lol, XFactor, that's pretty epic. Although you forgot his cowboy hat. Yknow, the one from the OVA?

But I've had quite a bit of cool dreams in my life. Others (although not related to Sonic) consist of John Lennon and George Harrison rising from the dead, which led to the Beatles regrouping and I was going to see them and then they ran out of tickets. ;_; And I also remember a dream of Chuck Norris and Mr. T having a tug-o-war battle.

    But now I'm getting off-topic. :v:

  16. Ugh, I hate to admit this.

I had a dream that Project Needlemouse was released as a free download when they released the latest 360 dashboard update. Game ran fast and smooth and played like the old games, with incredible level art and scenes like a loop-de-loop that went into background art just for a quick graphical feast. No real point, kinda like the corkscrew loop you run across in Sonic 2.

Damn that game looked fun. I blame that Sonic Nexus fangame, it got me feeling all nostalgic and optimistic.

The last time I had a dream about Sonic 1 was when I was a kid, but the looks of this would have been cool for a hack.
The dream was that I did the level select code and chose Labyrinth Zone. But when the game started it looked completely different.

I would have called the level Coral Zone or something along those lines. The platforms of this level were all made up of bright but dark toned pink coral and the background was nearly pitch black.

I can't remember much about it as it was so long ago, but whatever it was I remembered it looked cool. At the time I had the cart that said NOT FOR RESALE and I thought maybe the plain cart was different because it was a plain cart that I put in my system in the dream. Silly kid ideas.

The other notable dream about a video game was about Super Mario Bros. for NES. In this dream there was a world 9-1 with blue bricks but it was outdoors and dark outside. This level somewhat came true as a Boo race course in SMB deluxe for Game Boy Color

I had a dream that I was Tails and I was just flying around in the train station part of the Mystic Ruins. I didn't go into any levels or anything, I was just kinda fucking around, you know, like landing on that emblem cliff and flying around the pool area.

I also had a dream that was heavily based on an older Sonic comic issue back when I used to subscribe. A new 3D Hedgehog-Engine-constructed Sonic game was released. It played exactly like the Unleashed day levels (no werehog thank God), but here's the catch—the game was called "Sonic Element," and the whole idea behind the game was that Sonic got endowed with the power of some kind of nature goddess, and if he ran fast enough through certain environments, he would start to become one with that element and gain "experience" in that particular element. If he got enough experience, he could transform into different iterations of himself. Think "Eco-Sonic," "Polar-Sonic," "Hydro-Sonic," etc. Upon transformation, he wouldn't lose any speed or abilities; his fur would change color, and he would get like 2 or 3 more element-based powers. He could use these powers in zones of completely different elements to his advantage (e.g. he could go Pyro-Sonic in a cold level and use some kind of "Flash Quake" attack to melt through a thick ice wall to reveal some kind of secret or shortcut). Of course, the emeralds were involved, too. With just all 7 Emeralds he could go Super Sonic just like in the classic games (you know, get 50 rings and jump in-level), but if he gets the 7 Emeralds AND the 7 elemental abilities, he can go Ultra-Sonic and pretty much kick more ass than anything ever. I think it had some kinda mediocre excuse for a plot, too.

ONLY AVAILABLE ON PLAYSTATION3 AND XBOX 360!

Geez, I really needed that laugh. I don't know why I found that so hilarious, but I literally had to leave this computer room (inb4Vector) and wind down.

Ahh...but yes, that all sounds like an awesome dream.

Makes me wish I had interesting dreams. :psyduck:

EDIT: After skipping along straight to make this post, I find that the contents of this post are very similar to Flygon's. Hrm.
