Your Favourite Unnessecary Extra?

Wasn't it Robotnik's device used to suck out the forest's energy - and as a consequence, the closer to it you get, the more dead the forest becomes?

 

I've been always wondering what that pink thingies in SBZ actually mean, you know, those:



I kinda like them, though my favorite one is actually this frozen Sonic in WWZ.

 

I always thought that they were just random lights.

 

Clearly they are eyes, and the nose is there beneath them.

When you stare into the Scrap Brain, the Scrap Brain stares back.

 

What's that, exactly?

 

In ssbb, in GHZ when Tails, Knuckles and silver go round on the loop. Quite a distracting extra in a brawl.

 

The only wierd thing there is that Silver runs, since he isn't one of the Sonic veterans (at least for me).

 

Something that appears in the Special Stage demo of one of the Sonic CD prototypes.

I always took that as sonic "bowing" to knuckles out of respect, what with the game being Japanese and all.

He seems to be becoming one of the 'common' characters now, similar to what has happened with Shadow. With the amount of times Silver comes back in time, you would think he would just stay in the normal timeline.

One thing that nobody has mentioned, the metal columns in Star Light Zone (similar to the ones used for household TV antenna ). They appear in the foreground, and give the game more depth. You don't really notice it unless you look, but it's a pretty nifty extra for a game of Sonic 1's age.

 

We have no idea what he does in the future, though.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't think of any other level from any of Sonic 1, 2, 3, and K where something sat out in the forground like that. Maybe Chemical Plant, but I can't remember for sure.

 

Non-burned Angel Island in Sonic 3. Some plants have a parallax effect like that.

 

Death Egg in Lava Reef 2 count for that too?

I also like how in S3&K Tails's flying animation is instead a swimming one when you attempt to fly underwater. His swimming sprites look a lot more animated than his flying sprites, and they even make him look kind of cuter than he normally is. He's even got a different sprite for when he becomes tired out in the water (or in the air but then lands in the water.) Also, I love it when Tails is swimming and jump up to him in an attempt to hitch a ride only to make the both of them start sinking, lol.

My favorite unnecessary extras are Tails and Knuckles. I'm being subtle here, but they weren't needed at all (like every other character in the series) (because the series is "Sonic") (wait a second am I really stacking brackets?) (being drunk is fun), but they are actually cool unlike most all of the other ones.
