Yeah, the tripod logo is an amazing example to use. To make this un-shit post, I suggest using tinypic, photobucket, etc.
I don't know, I always thought Sandopolis was more of ruins coated in sand then just pure sand like Neo Green Hill Zone's beach section and what he seems to be going for.
WHAT I RESTARTED MY HACK. Green Hill Zone Act 1, with a new palette. One that I've used in every single hack attempt of mine for pretty much a year now. =P (I've grown fond of the palette, shut up :v: ) Also a very slightly edited layout, I haven't done much with layouts yet. Marble Zone Act 1. No layout changes yet, but a new palette, and I added in some code to load a different palette for Sonic in this zone (thanks SMTP for pointing out the obvious mistake in my code =P), since MZ is going to be a night-time zone. MZ1 again, on the inside this time.
Green Hill Zone Bad Future. Doesn't look bad, actually. For some reasons I'm biased towards gray levels (see also my comment above). And the pink, while unexpected, looks... good? Another nice one. This is fucking dark, but it looks so damn realistic. For some reasons this looks more realistic than the original MZ, in my opinion. Keep up the good work, I like these a bunch.
You stole my idea (joke)! The pink is... strange... and why is the water grey? It looks good, though (but it looks weird against the sky). And I have to agree with Nineko about MZ, but the switch and the pillar look strange, and the block should be darkest on the bottom, not on the right.
The mountains in the background of marble zone look kind of flat, I'd maybe make them a little darker.
This is what I want to replace Scrap Brain with. What do you guys think? I'll need an ASM hacker to screw around with the background deformations, though. EDIT: and this is the reason I asked if the Sonic 3 MLParallax could be done in Sonic 1
Looks great, though the large areas of flat colours could use some detail. unless that's what you're going for of course.
A Zone Warp subroutine, like in the animated image you made, you warped from GHZ1 to GHZ2, then you warped from GHZ2 to LZ1.
Mikel wins the game. Expect to see this concept more developed later. EDIT: By the way, that animated GIF isn't laced together, it was taken straight from the game (thanks to AnimGet). I've already got it coded. :U
