    You only go through viper's tail if you homing attack way too quickly, don't rush things and you will never miss.

    I replayed the game on DC earlier last month since I was unable to find my old VMU with save at the time, for a sonic game it's as fun as ever, including the bugs.

    Yeah, I'd second that. Don;t mash A - do it every half a second or so and you SHOULD hit him every time. SA's collision in general tends to fuck up if you go too quickly, this is just one of the more sensitive areas.

    Sonic Adventure, to me, is still perhaps the best overall entry into the 3D Sonic catalogue. Sure, it's glitchy, but in most cases it's a fun type of glitchy where you can attempt to do things the game didn't intend for you to do without completely breaking the game or hampering your progress. And yeah, the voice acting leaves much to be desired, but in my opinion it's still much more memorable than the dribble that ShadowTH and Sonic 2006 gave us, and it was at a time when extensive voice acting was still in it's infancy, so I feel it can be excused. On top of that, the sheer creativity of the levels (thanks to Sonic Team's visit to South America) and the fairly tight controls in comparison to later titles still ranks it tops among my list.

    Level length isn't a problem at all for me. The classic games were full of levels that could be completed in about 2 or 3 minutes, and the decision to carry that over to SA was a good one I'd say. It sure beats the maniacally long levels that began in Heroes (which, coupled with very poor controls and the unnecessary team mechanic, make it a simply lackluster title to me) and ultimately have progressed onto Sonic 2006 and Unleashed's tedious Werehog levels.

    I'd much rather play a game with lackluster voice acting and visuals and yet good, solid controls and inspired level design, which SA1 delivers on. You can have a game like Heroes or Unleashed where the story may be written by Shakespeare and the art drawn by Da Vinci, but if the controls aren't there like they are in SA1 and SA2 I'm simply not going to enjoy it as much, or even be bothered by it.

    Sonic Adventure: ten years old and still standing the test of time in my book.

    What is with all these Sonic Adventure bashing. I remember when I got my Dreamcast for X-mas, and this was my first game for that console. I play it again and again, loved most of it, except Big hate it with passion. Also, what are all theses glitches you guys are complaining about, I never had a game breaking glitch and I played it alot.

    Eh, SA2 sounds just fine if you have the PAL-version and set it to 50 Hz mode, actually. ... unfortunately, that makes the A-Button over-responsive.

    ... this becomes even more evident in Heroes, actually. xD;

    I still don't like how they pronounced Emerald in SA - Heroes.

    It's Ehm-ruld, dammit. Stop pronouncing the second e. :argh:

    ... am I the only one who CAN'T say it like that? ... may be 'cuz English ain't my native language, but I can't say Emerald without the second e. It seems mandatory to me. O.o

    I've never pronounced it without that second syllable, though using a schwa sound (ehm-?r-ald) rather than a 'short e' sound (ehm-eh-rald). The second is incorrect; Merriam-Webster tells me the first pronunciation is the most accepted one.

    What irked me was how they pronounced the whole phrase, with emphasis on "Kay-os" and equal emphasis after that on "em" and "er" in emerald; I always put the most emphasis on "em" instead (with a smaller emphasis on "Kay", naturally, though it was still emphasized) and found the different pronunciation quite jarring.

    Y'know, if I can geek out for a second and very tentatively relate something almost completely unrelated, I once read that when a TV show (more specifically, Voyager) was plagued by terrible acting, it was actually not because of the ineptitude of the actors (who I'm sure are nothing less than astounding in their other works), but because they were told by the producers to walk and talk like cardboard cutouts.

    So maybe it's a similar thing with games of the Sonic Adventure era. I mean, you take one look at Ryan Drummond's credits and you'd find it hard to believe them possible if he's some barely-literate fool who acts like a child who's dizzy on lemonade.

    That was incredibly verbose =P

    I think that Drummond's voice is a great fit for Sonic, but the acting needs work.

    Of course, that's irrelevant now.

    Funny, that's exactly what happened with the German dub of One Piece.

    Interestingly, Voyager's German dub seemed to cover that fact rather well...

    In this case, I find it kinda unlikely to apply here, though, dunno why. xD;

    The people who directed him didn't speak English. This also made the process more complex because they had to work through a translator. The fact that they handled it this way kind of annoys me, because it sounds like they were just trying to make him sound like Junichi Kanemaru rather than something that actually sounds natural in English.
