Sonic CD has always been one of my favorites. I play the Mega CD version because it is the best of any version of the game, my opinion! I noticed that the special stage game-play is different when it comes to comparing the game with other versions of Sonic CD. I cannot and I repeat, CANNOT eliminate the UFOs in the Mega CD special stages as effectively as I can in the US (Sega CD and PC) versions and Gems Collection for Gamecube.

In all stages (1-7) when trying to smash the UFOs, I come very close to destroying a UFO, to the point where it SHOULD be destroyed, the damn thing somehow slips right under me! This is frustrating. :psyduck:

Am I the only one who notices this? ..

Keep in mind, Sonic CD for Mega CD is when this happens!

I've always had this problem - with the PC version (U), the Sega CD version (U), and the Mega CD version (J). As far as my own experience goes, I've never noticed any tweaks between the various versions. If there are though, it's possible that they fixed it or something for the international releases.

I have noticed this but I'm not sure if it's a bug or a difficulty feature. I just got used to it and learned how to time it right.

People think the behavior is the result of a bug? I was always under the impression that it was an added facet of difficulty to add to the later stages—the UFOs go faster and become harder to catch, and the stage becomes harder to maneuver. Pretty straightforward stuff.

Are you sure this behavior doesn't occur in the PC and GCN ports of the game and that you're not just overlooking it due to the fact that the special stages run at a higher framerate in those two versions? That seems to be the most likely explanation for the difference in behavior.

^Ah, the special stages in later versions run at higher framerates. That explains why I thought that the difficulty was increased in the GCN port.

The only difference I notice between the Japanese and US versions besides the music is that the end of act tally ends quicker in the Japanese version then the American one. Beyond that though I don't think there is any difference.

There's also a glitch in it that when you get kicked by two bumpers too quickly (or something like that), SFXs stop playing anymore, until you reset it. But that could be because of my emulator. Anyone else also had this problem or knows how to fix it?

I always wondered, is there any easy way to change the sound effects in that game? The jumping, skidding, bumper, explosion, and rolling sounds are all trash. They need to be replaced by their Genesis counterparts (I don't care if technically the SCD sounds are of higher quality. They don't work)

There are no issues with SCD's special stages. The difficulty is the exact same on all versions, except that in Gems Collection the framerate is bumped up. You just need to learn to anticipate your jumps in relation to the movement of the UFOs to successfully hit them.
