While I happen to like it, I don't really feel that it would be great for the Sonic music. I'd rather not have a soundtrack that sounds like 80% of small games soundtracks, regardless of how well-selected the FM voices may be.

I actually think, that Underwater swim and Glam city is something, that you can hear in sonic 3, Or maybe it's something better level.
Not sonic 3 style, but sonic 4 style.

    But maybe you know better.

I purpose you a last song, specially composed to match with Canadian Zone. For the bass I drew inspiration from "Caribou Road" ( :) ) which is a traditional folk song of Canada made by Michael Mitchell. For the drumline I drew inspiration from Hill Top Zone.

(http://www.everyoneweb.fr/SailuMusic/ --> go to "Projet Sonic")

Don't forget it is just a first work. If you were insterested in I would improve the composition.
Then, we could write again the song on a software that emulates Genesis sounds.

Don't be afraid to tell me if you want my help or not. My aim is to help you if posible but the most important for me isn't to participate. Seeing the best Sonic traditional game is the most important !

Simon Stalenhag has got very good songs. I've no listened to them before. They are most sonic-like than mines but I don't know if you want only one composer. Then I (naturally) think some of mines have a particular charm.
You seem to don't be agree with each other. Is there a leader who have to take final decisions? If the answer is no, can we vote?

This Simon Stålenhag guy is amazing, but to be honest his song's really don't sound Sonic style. The only ones that sound remotely possible to be Sonic related is Water Temple. Glam City would be amazing in an RPG though.

Tweaker, you seem to act like your opinion is a fact. I really think that his songs fit well (except for Glam City, it has some weird sounding melody mixed in which awfully reminds me of a saturday morning cartoon). Skysurf reminds me of Lava Reef, and watertemple has this disco beat mixed up with a melody that reminds me a lot of Sonic CD's past songs. His songs are full of melody and are more fittable than most of the songs showed up here. (except for yours muteKi, <3 your compositions)

This music is fantastic, while I do agree that it doesn't sound like Sonic music, this can be easily remedied if the instruments are tweaked to sound more like the ones from the Sonic games.

To be honest I'm not really sure if we have anyone in particular in charge, leaders tend to evolve in specific areas as things progress. Myself an Jayextee took a brief leading role when producing a plan for the current art that was needed in an attempt to kick start things, unfortunately I think that fell to the age old problem of 'people who knew what they were doing didn't need the advice and the people who needed the advice didn't take it'. I never intended to lead officially as there are better people for the job but I'm more then happy to help out with the general admin of the project such as collecting the work done and producing various plans when needed just to keep things tight and organized. Although this isn't really the time nor topic to be discussing this...
In answer to your question, I don't think so, currently as far as I know no particular person has stepped up to take a lead role in the music production, although by the looks of things we do have plenty of people more then capable.

  9. Sailu, I really like your stuff but they need a bit of work if they are to seem like Sonic music. Most of them take too long to "get to the point" if you know what I mean. 10 seconds of intro is a bit much for a level theme.
It also seems to me that there are a few issues just in the overall structure of the songs. They are set up to be great "foreground" listening songs but not really background music.
Not saying it's not amazing though just not exactly right yet. Please please keep hammering away at it though!

I can't remember, did Simon say that he would make more music for us or just that we could use what he already made?

Immagine Glam City on Casino Night zone, and Water Temple on Hydrocity zone.

After that, how could you say it doesn't fit the sonic style, really?

He may make new songs later, if that's the style we want

Yeah I bet if you replace the instruments of the first 4 songs with those from Sonic 3K (or similar) you'll remove a considerable amount of suckage.

Not a big fan of Sailu's stuff. They're nice in their own right but I don't think they're "Sonic material".

Thanks for your honest answers guys :)
I'll probably try to make one or two new songs in a right Sonic style. "Wonderland" isn't far from this style. Setting a better structure will be easy. Rendering the music in a Sonic tone will be quite easy. The difficult for me concerns the orchestration which differs a lot from that I usually compose. But I'll try. I will enjoy this challenge even if you didn't choose one my song !

I'm listening again the Simon's stuff. It is really perfect for this project. As Phoebius says, I don't understand how ones of you could say it doesn't macht with Sonic traditional levels O_o

Actually, that skysurf doesnt sound sonic enough, but imagine that water level music in hydrocity.
    It's very fitting.

I quite share this point of view. I think skysurf sounds sonic but I don't see this song on any level of Sonic Retro (at least for this time). As concerns Glam City, it could perfectly fit on Circus Zone, coudn't it?

I dunno. I think that Stalenhag's [sic] stuff is a bit rough around the edges, from a composing standpoint. There are a bunch of intervals and chord series that I don't think work very well together. There's good stuff in there too but I think it could use some re-arranging / touching-up in that regard.

I think, Circus need something more circus like music.
Ofcourse we need to keep sonic feel in it.

But that fit perfectly in city zone.

Are you people joking? Everyone saying that song fits well in Hydrocity must not have played that Zone in years, because Water Temple is an ambient, laid back, and calm sort of tune. Conversely, Hydrocity is extremely pumped up, quick, and upbeat—skimming on water surfaces, twisting through tubes, going at insane speeds while underwater, running from the crushing wall in Act 2... it's all fast! Water Temple becomes, in fact, the most inappropriate choice for Hydrocity that you could possibly try and associate a tune with.

The reason these songs do not work together with Sonic is largely because of their chord progressions, their keys, their melodies, et al. They just... aren't Sonic. They're not upbeat enough, they don't instill that victorious feeling of speed, they don't fit real Sonic environments—they don't do any of it! If you think of Sonic CD's music, each song fit the pace and feel of the level brilliantly. If you think of Simon's music, it, while good, simply doesn't have the same sort of dynamic appeal. It's simply not fit to a Sonic game.

The only reason any of you are pushing for this guy's music so bad is because of an utter lack of any other solid contributions. I can understand that, but we should not settle for "the best we can get." We need a proper style; one that fits Sonic with that same kind of dynamic appeal. Has anyone tried contacting GeckoYamori? He has some fantastic original compositions. In fact, have you guys tried anyone from OCRemix? They have the sound, and they work with Sonic-related material all the time—I bet some of them could make some awesome Sonic-esque compositions.

But jesus... this bandwagon mentality is no good. This music has potential to be fucking awesome, but you guys are dead set on a compositional style that does not fit. It's extremely detrimental, and it has me worried. We can do better.

Im not saying, that hydrocity and water temple sounds like each other, but think about replacing hydrocity music whit water temple. Just listening it and thinking about those water "Geysers" or whatever.

I think, that will fit :P

Maybe not in hydrocity, but some "Hydrocity like" level.

Also, underwater levels are not so fast (Usually) So that fit well.
    But I understand your point.

Just play this video whitout sound and play water temple same time.

Also, every time, when I play Aqua Planet zone or Water temple whit my keyboard, I notice, that I can combine them and make "Sonic style" songs.

This is good remix of aqua planet. (Original version is faster)

I know exactly what you meant, and I maintain my position—it does not work. Playing that muted video with the track in the background only confirmed my suspicions.
