    So how do fix it?

And please don't make this a vista bashing topic...

Not sure what you're talking about. Mind providing more detail?

Install a replacement bootloader like grub onto your MBR and you will be able to boot into Windows again.

In that situation in XP, I'd fire up the recovery console off the xp disk and type fixmbr.

Are you running a vista crack? I've had that happen to me on a cracked vista install.

I'm using a real version of vista. I've also tried startup repair, fixboot, fixbmr, and rebuildbcd. It still doesn't work.

I suggest you get hiren's boot cd and play with the tools on there

Also, if this is a legal copy of vista, can't you call microsoft? Ubuntu is only $20 at Best Buy and you get a whole year of support, ffs.

I doubt that even ubuntu's support would be toll free.

Coulds someone with vista tell me where the path to the system restore files is? I would do it myself, but there isn't another running vista in the house.

I'm gonna see if I can restore it from dos mode.

Perhaps I can get that running on my old Gateway, hopefully there's a good programming IDE for it.

Okay, my computer is working again. Either the power supply, or the thing that connects the harddrive to the mobo got loose. So it's working and everything is fine now.

Ubuntu is available for free on ubuntu.com though with support on the forums :/

  17. Hell, they'll even send you a free disk if you don't mind waiting.
