HI! :D I'm gonna make a long post that everyone will ignore but I don't care.

I looked at some of the reviews on a few sites for Sonic Adventure. Most places rated it quite high but did talk about the camera problems. Then I looked up Sonic Adventure DX... the game rated pretty low and I remember someone on FUS saying that it was stupid. It was the same game as SA, so it should rate just as high... right? Well that was the problem. It was the SAME GAME. The same bugs were still there. The same horrible camera was still there. Nothing was changed or fixed.. the ONLY glitches that were removed were the reallly fun ones that allowed characters to venture into areas of levels they weren't supposed to be able to access. One such glitch is getting Knuckles into Sonic's area of Lost World.... in order to do this you have to climb into a certain crevice of the area and tap A repeatidly, and it really only works sometimes.... so why was this removed? I mean it's not like it caused a HUGE problem in the level and to be honest, I have NO CLUE how someone would even figure this out. "Hey I wonder what happens if I crawl into this crevice and then jump a bunch... OH HEY NEAT!"...

    but anyway...

point is, all of those were taken out, and they were fun... but the bad glitches, the falling though floors, slipping through walls and the BUGGY ASS CAMERA THAT GETS STUCK ON THINGS SO YOU FALL OFF CLIFF AND DIE BECAUSE YOU CAN'T SEE WHERE THE HELL YOU'RE GOING!... were still there. The add-ons were crap. I mean, come on, chao karate? Chasing balloons?... just plain WTF... and was it really nessicary to make Sonic so shiney you have to squint your eyes when you're playing? The only thing really worth it w

EDIT: and uh.. drills, I forgot to mention drills XD

    EDIT:
my... my... my post... what happened to it?... where DID IT ALL GO? WHAT THE HELLL? I worked my ass off on it >_<

    I bought this game yesterday.

Then I traded it in and spent $10 on Call of Duty 3. WAY better.

Well, Yuji Naka is the only person credited on both I can think of off-hand. Not sure about anyone else.

On a slightly unrelated note, am I right in hearing that the ending theme to this game is a remix of the ending theme of Sonic 2? :P

The only thing really worth it was the upgraded 60FPS...

    what's my point?

Okay, once again, go back to Sonic Adventure, the original. Why was it rated so high when these problems were still there?
Well for one thing, the technology was so new, that a few errors were forgivable as long as they were fixed in the long run ... :disgust:

And another thing... man.. the game fucking rocks. I was playing it the other night and I forgot how much fun it was. It IS a TRUE 3D Sonic game. Think back to the Genesis games. Pretty much every level had some kind of special kink or quirk to it. Sonic 2 is a great example of this. Look at Metropolis Zone. Most people remember that zone because of the giant bolts or screws or whatever that you make move by running on them. There was also plenty of moving platforms and obsticles akin to the level's design. It is by far one of my favorite Sonic Zones.. it was beautiful...
There's also Mystic Cave Zone, which was filled with many switches, swinging vines, and many other items like this. Hill Top even had those elevator thingies, and the seasaw springs... I mean all the levels were filled with objects like these that made the game all the more fun.

So go back to SA... think for a moment: does it have these kinds of items? YES! The answer is YES.
It has conveyor belts, moving platforms, roller coasters, giant pinball machines, fans that blow you high into the air, windy paths you can walk on. All sorts of stuff. It's also filled with loops, long paths to run on, enemy robots that get harder as the game goes on, and many other things the old Sonic games had.

Now let's move onto Sonic Adventure 2... it doesn't HAVE any of these things. The best of the game is City Escape. Everything after that pretty much blows. But levels like Pyrimid Cave, Final Rush/Chance... none of them have those little quirks. Most of the game is just "run, grind, run grind, run grind"... it's boring. The one level I DO enjoy in SA2 is Crazy Gadget where you actually play some of the level upside down and that maze in the end is fun IMO, and filled with hidden items and such. That's another thing these games lack, hidden passage ways... but they sure were in SA.

I'm not saying SA is perfect either. It would have been fine without Big and E102... we really didn't need them... especially Big >.> but the problem is, instead of improving, Sonic Team went a step back and put MORE shooting levels in SA2 and MORE hutning. This is stuff we DID NOT WANT but they didn't listen to us and put it in the game anyway. To make things worse, the camera was hardly improved upon. Yes the game LOOKED nicer but big fucking deal. I'd rather these things are improved upon then looking nicer.

My main problem with Sonic Heroes was NOT the lack of plot, oh no. I LOVED the fact that the game jumped from one level to the next quickly. I like to PLAY games, not watch. So that didn't bother me as much... what bugged me was how FREAKING BROKEN the game was. The camera sucked, the homing attack only worked about 50% of the time, Sonic would constantly dash foward instead of doing the lightspeed dash and the characters WOULDN'T SHUT THE FUCK UP! I was fed up with these same problems by then. I tried to enjoy it, but the only enjoyment I got out of it was Casino Paradise and Bingo Highway. THat's the only zones that were done right.

And another problem with newer Sonic games
WHAT IS WITH ALL THE BOTTOMLESS PITS?... The earlier Sonic games did NOT use bottomless pits as sorce of obsticles, at LEAST until later in the game. (Scrap Brain, Wing Fortress,)... I mean even Sky Santuary wouldn't let you fall off the cliff and die. Death Egg did but.. you get my point. One thing I enjoyed about Sonic games was that there weren't as many bottomless pits as the Mario games. To me that was one thing Sonic always had over Mario... but now there's bottomless pits everywhere way you turn and sometimes they're freaking hard to avoid, not because of challenging game play, BUT BECAUSE OF THE GLITCHES! It pissed me off more than anything when I read a fan review of StH2k6 that said, "can't you guys look passed glitches and horrible cameras?"... you know what? NO I CANNOT! Not at this stage in the game. Not when they send me flying to my doom constantly... not when it's been 8 years since the original engine and they have yet to improve upon it. hey can't YOU look past great graphics? I can't tell you how many reviews on Sonic Heroes that went on and on and on about how beautiful the game was (Which is true, it did look nice), then ragged on the gameplay, but still gave the game a high rating. 9/10 even!... I mean WTF?! I'd rather have a working game than a piece of eye candy... :disgust: stupid Shadow fanboys and girls

    Here's another question
What happened to Sonic's signature move since Sonic 2? Sonic Adventure was the last game that featured Spindash (as far as I know, the new StH might)... how horrible is that to rob Sonic of the move he's KNOWN for...?

    Another good question:
why do we need 50 new characters every new game? Did we need a new hedgehog? A fucking HUMAN princess that looks totally retarded when standing next to Sonic.

Do we need Eggman to turn into a good guy and for Sonic and Eggman to join forces to stop the bad guy in some kind of "last" story? What happened to Eggman being the last boss? What happened to, "Even though my Death Egg or what not was destroyed I still have this 500ft tall robot replica of me stashed away somewhere, that if you hit it 8 times in the chest it falls appart, but I won't die in it even when it explodes BECAUSE I'm FUCKING DR EGGMAN BITCHES!"

The reason Mario thrives so well is because they never changed the winning formula. Sonic is constantly changing. They keep shoving this NEW shit in our faces expecting us to eat it up (ew) and they can't get it that we want the same winning formula that made Sonic so great in the Genesis days. Which, to many's surprise, is not just "run run run run run" there was a lot more to Sonic than just running to the end of the level as fast as you could. There were those quirks I was talking about earlier. Now they're all gone, and that's one of the main reasons for Sonic's suckage.

now I bet you're all wondering, and NO I have not played SOnic the Hedgehog 2k6.. Im not going to. I've read enough reviews by level headed non biased people who don't just "OMG THE GAME LOOKS GOOD BUY IT EVEN THOUGH THE GAMEPLAY BLOWS!" and actually rate a game for what it's supposed to be rated upon: GAMEPLAY! (OMG!)

SO why did I write this? well mainly because I wanted to. I don't care that no one will read it or that my opinion doesn't matter. This is stuff that's been building up for a long time and I really needed to say.

Thanks to anyone who stayed with my post XD

Quexinos: your opinion DO matters. I'm sure many people, at this day, are aware of all the points you highlighted, and that Sega hasn't learned anything from its past mistakes.

that's fine Quexinos. It's a nice summery of what were all looking for - Level Quirks, instead of 'Differentscenerythatmakesitanewlevel, amirite?'. Well, through all the glitches the reviews talked about, I didn't run into many of them. At all. Glitchy Camera? Not really, no. I died once or twice due to it, but that what happens in most games, even Mario 64, which people often call a pinicle of gaming. The main deal, I believe, with the 'unbiased' reviewers is that they were expecting more of a 'Adventure-esque' engine. The change surprised them and therefore, couldn't play it as well. what do you do to games your bad at? Rate them lower, of course! Mach Speed areas only amount countless deaths when you suck at looking forward. Instead of that, everyone is trying to move out of the way of something realy close, and they yell insanties about how the game is moving too fast for them to avoid it.

    No, just no.

If you look ahead, which you are fully capable of doing, because the Camera shows you, without any of these glitches people are yelling about, you can do fine. Sure, something may be hidden behind a tree or something that you didn't see, but whoopdie-doo, it's not like there isn't surprising things behind large objects in real life.

Anyway, This post of my own shifted from praising Quexinos to flaming the reviewers. Point remains, The game itself is unpolished in some area's, but they are mainly just the ones that they are praising it for. 'Good Graphics!' even though Silver's quill shadows fidget the entire game. Check them out, They're fun to watch after awhile.

I just realized it, the guys at Sonic Team are fucking geniuses.

The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is like a genie in a lamp to video game companies; they can do anything they want with it. Sonic is a beloved franchise by all, with a rather cult like fanbase. Do you know what that means? It means that the company can do whatever they please, and they shall irrefutably make a profit. Look at how many people bought Shadow the Hedgehog. the game is total dogshit and yet look at the sales. The kids buy them and the fans buy them, which leads to a stable source of income, regardless of the conditions. Anyone will buy the game because it fucking Sonic. Even people who are not fans will still buy it because the name is well known and trusted by all.

Similar shit happened to almost all, if not all, popular video games. (Yes, even the immaculate Mario produced total dogshit, although it isn't mentioned as much.)

I, however, never bought a new Sonic game, and I probably won't until Sonic Team gets out of this phase. I've seen similar things happen in capitalism and I know that the most effective way to fight these types of things is to not buy into it. I also know that most of you are thinking: "BladeofGlory, pull your head out of your ass, us not buying the game won't make a difference in sales." Guess what? By buying the game, even to test it out, you are wholeheartedly saying that the game is great, and thus adding fuel to the fire. Even if you bitch enough to fill up an entire fucking book, it won't change that you have agreed to Sega and Sonic Team and their raping of video games.

For those that are strong enough to accept the challenge, just don't buy the games. By not buying the games, you have caused a part of the machine to die. I pity those that buy the game solely to bitch about it and how they get praised by all for it, for they are hypocrites that seek only attention. What I'm trying to say is, if you think it sucks, then don't buy it.

    </endrant>
