Favorite Sonic Songs

Don't know if it's been done before, but I like this topic.

HM) Sky Sanctuary
- Hard to explain. I think it fits the mood of the level perfectly.

HM) Chemical Plant Zone
- Mostly just for nostalgia.

3) Starlight Zone
- Extremely catchy. If I could play piano, this would be the song I'd learn.

2) Hydrocity Zone - Act 2
- Definitely can't explain this one.

1) Flying Battery Zone - Act 2
- This is just the sweetest sonic song ever. EVER. It translates into other styles very well too. E.g. my friend Eric has a jazz/funk version of this song on his myspace. Myspace sucks, but the song is sweet.

Most of the Chaotix music is just eargasm, and the same goes for SCD, so I guess I'll have to leave those out.

If I had to choose just three songs, I'd go with:

-Lava Reef Act 2 (SK)
-Chemical Plant (S2)

For the classic games, and for the newer ones:
-This Machine (SH)
-Open Your Heart (SA)
-Throw it All Away (SA2)

EDIT: As long as we're on game music, how many people agree with me that Woodman's Theme from Mega Man 2 is one of the hardest of the hardcore in NES electronica?

Oh man, I have way too many Sonic music tracks that I love. I couldn't begin to narrow them down to a top three.

 

My god, there's just too much. I think I'll just talk about the games in general:

Sonic 1: Most tunes are pretty good in this one. I can't pick or choose between them.

Sonic CD US: I personally prefer this one to the JPN track. I love most of these, with the exception of Tidal Tempest. Again, I can't pick favorites. The Special Stage song in this fits the slower Special Stages on the SCD and PC versions.

Sonic CD JPN: These aren't bad per se, just not as good. Tidal Tempest fits perfectly, but the otyhers just sound out of place. They're better if you listen to hem out of the game. This Special Stage song would be perfect for the sped up Special Stages in Gems.

Sonic 2: I honestly don't understand why people revere these songs so much. I will admit that I enjoy a lot of these, but I find they get old pretty fast. Although, my favorite is Wing Fortress.

Sonic 2 Beta: Most of these are better than their finalized counterparts, and the boss song is wonderfully evil. But Wing Fortress is, sadly, one big earsore.

Sonic 3 (& Knuckles): These are undoubtably some of my most favorite songs of all time. Their catchy, fresh, and fit the theme of the levels. Every time I hear these, I'm taken back to the days when I was little, without a care in the world. My favorites include Competition menu, the five Competition levels, data select, S3 standalone exclusives, FBZ2, LRZ1, DEZ1&2, S3 final boss, and definatly S3 credits. It pwnz j00. Although the new S&K songs are quite bad, in my opinion.

Sonic 3D: Again, most of these are great, and Panic Puppet Act 2 reigns supreme.

Knuckles Chaotix: This is an orgasm of the ears. I love all of these, every last one.

Sonic Adventure 1: More great songs. In particular, Sonic's, Big's, E-102 Gamma's, and Eggman's themes; Open Your Heart, and many more.

Sonic Adventure 2: These were good as well, but the only themes I enjoyed were Shadow's and Eggman's, and (to a lesser extent) Live and Learn.

Sonic Heroes: Why do the crappy games have good soundtracks? The only songs I disliked were We Can and Follow Me. Those were trash. Also, does anyone happen to have Sonic Heroes (full version, heard during Last/Super Hard credits) and the four team themes? If so, PM me. I'd much appreciate someone willing to give me them.

Shadow the Hedgehog: I hated these at first, but they began to grow on me once I downloaded the OST.

In short, I love Sonic music, and video game music in general.

 

And there in a nutshell is the reason why they remade the music for the US in the first place.

I listen to a lot of Sonic music, but I decided to choose from the classic games to make it easier on me. No particular order.

 

I write music, so basically every song on this list has inspired me in one way or another.

Sonic 1: Spring yard, Scrap Brain, and Labyrinth are my favorites from this game, although I actually enjoyed the entire sound track.

Sonic 2: I actually didn't like sonic 2's soundtrack that much. Chemical PLant, Aquatic Ruin (which I used to hate) Casino night , and mystic cave were all good, but the stand out best song in the soundtrack is Sky Chase.

Sonic CD: I love almost all the songs on both soundtracks, although the american ones didn't fit the levels in my opinion. My favorites are Metalic Madness (US) Tidal Tempest (JP) Quartz Quadrant (JP) Stardust Speedway (JP) Palmtree Panic (US)

Sonic 3: I honestly can't find a song that I don't like on this soundtrack. My favorites were (in order of appearance) competition and ALL competition levels, Hydro City, Marble Garden, Ice Cap, Launch Base, s3 credits , Mushroom hill, Flying Battery , Lava Reef/ Hidden Palace, Death Egg, final boss. DEZ and ICZ and S3C being the favorites.

Sonic 3d: Panic Puppet/Volcano Valley for the win
Sonic 3d on Saturn: I loved every song. Even the cheesy Volcano Valley and Diamond Dust ones.

Knuckles Chaotix: I love the entire fucking soundtrack. Door in to Summer, and Level hub place thing (Evening).

The new games: I used to hate their soundtracks, but upon re-listening, I like alot of 'em. My very favorite songs, hands down, are Hanging Castle and Mystic Mansion from Heroes
