I consider myself pretty well versed in early Segasonic games but I've never seen this guy before! Has anyone else? Source (includes a recording of the gameplay audio): https://twitter.com/OkaasanGame2011/status/1173218238341083136
Now, this intrigues me. I have never seen anything like it. A very nice find without a doubt, I'm sure. I hope to see more about these types of machines in the future.
The reason this is unusual is that Sega has always built their own equipment. That's what they do - that's their business, so to outsource it to Konami makes no sense at all. Unless, say, it was just a licensing deal. Hey guys I think it was a licensing deal. ミニ・ピカデリーシリーズ "Mini Piccadilly (Piccadelly?) Series". Looks like Konami had a unit where they could easily swap out the artwork and sounds. Mostly undocumented of course - the Nintendo fans have gone hunting for the Mario variants but I'd guess there are more (that last one is based on Wai Wai World). Banpresto seem to have released a few suspiciously similar cabinets. Because it was made by Konami, Sega aren't likely to ever acknowledge its existence, which is probably why we've not seen it before. Good find!
Yeah, basically that's the gist of all this. I have to say, this was very informative. I didn't even know any of this information myself. You aren't a Wiki Sysop for nothing. You know quite the deal of information. Glad to be enlightened by you.
https://twitter.com/OkaasanGame2011/status/1173221651342692352 ^ this one, as posted in the general info chat Are those new arrangements of the green hill and boss themes? the jingles are definitely different arrangements, specifically the Chaos Emerald Get and Jump sounds near the end.
I was thinking that myself. The audio is EXTREMELY good. I love it so much. I want one, but that's SO unlikely to happen lol.
