Eh, I guess I may as well post this. Nothing as exciting as my loop, but it's something new for y'all to look at. As for the checkered pattern on the wall, I'm still a bit undecided on what to do with it. There have been a couple suggestions, but they didn't look right to me, so I imagine I'd probably do some form of texturing on them. I think I could get away with leaving them just solid blocks of color, but I'm not sure I want to do that. Regardless, I'll probably mess with them after the rest of the stage is done.

I like the look of the checkered pattern as it looks clean with it's simple look, but would it be possible to create character shadows on the wall like the grass? That might give it a better look when the game is being played.

That will most likely be possible. I'll have to bring it up next time special effects are discussed.

I too like the checkered pattern the way it is now.

That idea is interesting: a small grotto with some emeralds illuminating it. Looking at this image, I'm wondering if the emeralds should glow randomly, so that they don't look too synchronized.

Yes, make them glow randomly, and maybe scatter those lights a bit more. Apart from that, it's a good idea. I'd like to see that in the next release.

Sorry, this won't work. It's distracting from the game, hurting my eyes and basically not a detail more.

I didn't say anything at first because I though you were joking, but this

Is ridiculous. I does absolutely nothing for the game except create a large unnecessary distraction. Come on people.

This is really fugly. I don't know if it's because there are more lights than what there used to be but the glow is just really really really too extreme for EHZ. It looked good on it's own when the concept was being done but with loads of them glowing on a screen shot it's a different story. It should be tried with the same glow that's in the original.

  12. There aren't more lights than in the original. This is taken directly from EHZ1. However, I do believe the light is covering more area than in the original, so I agree, it is pretty distracting. I'd imagine it wouldn't be that bad when they are flashing, and you are running at the speed of sound. I honestly didn't notice these until I checked the level wondering where these graphics came from.

  13. If you increase the opacity of the glow to about 70%, it might not be much of a problem.

My suggestion would be to make them a bit dimmer, and make the glow smaller.

They just draw too much attention as is.

Oh, and just so y'all know, the thing El posted is not what they will look like in-game unless we make them look like that. They're still the same as my last revision to test-object's lights. I think something like what he posted would be better suited for Casino Night.

    Im gonna quote myself:

For 2 seconds you'll spend runing in the cavern at 200 mph, of course, its distracting you from running all the way...

Again, start reading my post again.

Same lights, I just darkened the cavern to ambiental light, and added the necesary glows to make the cavern at least with lights. But I already said it... "extreme concept of what I'd like"

Exactly, you'll spend 2 seconds in the place, you are not going to wait looking at the lights.

People needs to read =P... I was just trying random things I'd like, and of course, Im gonna do the fucking lights and shines in Casino Night =P

I admit that I did overreact a bit due to not taking into account your use of "extreme" and "=P," but the fact of the matter I don't like it and I don't see the majority of people will like it either.

I'm not trying to be an ass but please stop using the excuse "...you'll spend 2 seconds in the place, you are not going to wait looking at the lights." If it not that big of a deal to make them look right then why remake them at all? You should take people's views and opinions seriously and concentrate on making things appealing to the masses and sensible.

  18. The grass looks terrible with that lighting. I'm totally against making those emeralds look important. They are a small background detail that most people haven't even noticed, and I feel like they should remain as such. The effect just looks cheap.

You know like people are used to joke that underdeveloped minds like bright/shining things (like in that "Look! Something shiny!" scene in Finding Nemo, and so many other places)? No offense, but people are getting too excited whenever something shiny shows up in S2HD. It's this, the lamp post with the glowing spiral, the expectation for CNZ... I don't know about most of you, but I'll take my S2 without all the extra glow, thanks.

Don't worry about things getting too glowy and shit. There will be lots of quality checks on the glowing before any of it gets accepted.

The staff recently discussed the lights for the cave sections and we're tossing around other ideas for it. The concept piece that has everyone annoyed, is just that -- a concept piece, and will in no way reflect the final, or even the alpha version. My two cents on the matter was to make any lighting effect applied far more subtle, like having small reflections on the lights cycle at random. Time will tell how these are implemented, but pay attention to what Gambit said. No detail piece is just going to be thrown in there and considered a done deal.
