You also weren't tied down to releasing the project with the intent to make money so you also had a much freer timetable to getting stuff done. When you don't have to pay anybody it can happen whenever. :P

Well, um, erm... not quite. The situation was pretty simple—either show off what we had, or don't. If you were comfortable with 3.0, then hey, you should have said so. But I was under the impression that a lot of the public were eager to play a new version of Megamix, and we were considerate enough to release one, albeit in an obviously incomplete state. Should we not have? Would you have preferred that? I'm not really understanding here.

 

Well, I meant that in terms of releasing a completely 100% finished product you have the advantage of releasing it whenever the hell you feel like -- there's nothing really stopping you from continuing work on it barring the fact that you all don't want to.

A commercial product doesn't have that advantage 'cause it has to get out the door so it can make money. Either that or it's canned, which isn't good.

In this sense I'm looking at the various releases of Megamix like 3.0 as like trade show demo beta builds.

 

Well, allow me to call bullshit—we wanted to work on it more, but various factors prevented that from being a possibility. This is why this general viewpoint just plain doesn't work.

 

Megamix was cancelled; the release was a prototype, albeit a fairly late one. As such, it is buggy and has some incomplete portions.

Tweaker didn't HAVE to release it at all; the fact that he chose to release the prototype after its cancellation is a charity to the community.

 

You know what would be the best hack ever?

The one thats finished.

 

You'll Have A Ball isn't finished, only GHZ1 is playable, I seriously hope that Hitaxas goes on and makes it ALL playable :D

 

Um, Westside Island was finished. But I suppose it's not decent, so it doesn't count, right?

(Only joking, It's not as if Westside Island made a big impact on the community)

 

Well, it WAS a finished hack.

 

Then we should make it so that the winner hosts next year's contest.

Robotnik's Revenge is finished. Version 1 of it, anyway.

 

Either Robotnik's Revenge or qiuu's hack will win the technical trophy. Or that other hack... err, what was it called? It's been so long... oh yeah, Extended Edition

 

We all know I'm going to win the art trophy because of the cat in my Labyrinth Zone, and the palette trophy because of the palette in my Spring Yard Zone.

...or does he? I'm of the opinion that that palette is awesome, if only because of how seizureiffic! it is.
Really the alternate palettes in SoniNeko deserve an award too
