Sonic 1 - Debug in ending?

I was bored, so I dedicaded to play Sonic 1. I have gone to level select (I don't renember code for debug), and gone right to the final zone. When I have beaten the final boss, I holded A button until the ending. And for my supprise, it somehow enabled the debug in the ending, so you could press B and move around the small ending area and place some animals.
I tried it again, without the level select, and it worked too.
Do anyone know why this happen?

How many times did you press A when enabling the level select?

I was asking because level select doesn't need you to press the A button...

EDIT: Hmm, just doing the level select code can indeed bring up the debug mode in that specific "level". How wierd.

I think you don't understand me well. I started pressing the A button AFTER beating final boss, no at start of final zone.

I remember doing this years ago when I first got the game. I never mentioned it because I was sure it had been noticed sometime before. I would hold A after I beat the boss I believe. You can also do it for the credits and it messes up where Sonic is supposed to go. His timing is all off for the current location he's in.

EDIT: Oh and shouldn't this be in General Sonic Games?

This is one of the 1000 small things noticed by everyone but posted by no one because "probably it was noticed before". My fault as well, I'm never sure if something is already known or not...

This is also somewhat doable in sonic 2 & 3. The debug code must be on but not activated. Once there is a level change just hold A and it will enable.

...There's nothing strange with making the debug mode appear after entering the proper cheat code. =|

I didn't say it was strange. I was pointing out the fact you can enable it during the game. =P
