When Tails dies, the game continues unless you press A. Kind of defeats the object of the game. :(
That's what I usually do, but I found just running the loops a lot faster and easier on this.

One of the best hacks I've played in quite a while. I agree with changing the name and the title page though, very bland and generic.
That would mean the entire island starts as you walk up the rock slide in the Mystic Ruins. Even so, where would Sandopolis be?
