Oh shit, it's The Wizard but with Sonic and a cop instead of a mentally-challenged super gaming child.

They'll probably have him stick with the human characters for a bit, he'll get bored and leave them behind, he gets into trouble while the human characters are into their subplot of finding Eggman's true plan, they all meet in San Francisco for the finale in Angel Island.

Part of me feels that after the Boom debacle, Sega would be a little wiser to avoid making more licensed tie-in Sonic games.

Emphasis on "Part of me," though.

So will it have the reveal of Sonic Team's next Sonic game crowbared somewhere in there? Like the film decides to be another movie in which Eggman is making a film based on their adventures, and Sonic decides to file a lawsuit after consulting legal advice from a friend of his cop partner?

Part of me knows that they will add characters based on the movie to Team Sonic Racing... :v:

I think it would be a bad move for them not to have a game around that time (even if it's not based on the movie).I would also expect some merchandise to come out for it.

If not they'll end up with a Frozen/Coco situation where Disney thought the movies weren't going to perform well only for them to be scrambling at the last minute to get merch out.

Sure, who wouldn't buy their children a pillow with Marsden's face on it (sorry, but that's the first thing that comes to mind).

Yeah I think the movie tie-in game is unfortunately inevitable - like I wouldn't be surprised if Sonic Team have been on that shit since Forces was released but oh God if it even merely attempts to follow the plot of what we now know is a road trip movie then God help us all. If it's just a concurrent game in the vein of Colours or something that could be awesome. But if it actually is a game based on the movie...

I doubt Sonic Team is or will be producing a tie in. Cartoon and movie tie-ins have always come from the western side (Spinball, MBM and Sonic Boom getting produced, the American VAs getting replaced with the 4kids cast, Wreck-It Ralph appearing in the UK-made SASRT). If the trend keeps going, we'll probably get something sanctioned by SoA, with little or no participation from Sonic Team.

Fair point dude. Honestly didn't think about that. That Sonic Team could be working on the next major Sonic game as in Generations/Forces whilst a Western dev is outsourced for the potential movie game - which thinking about it now is the more probable scenario than Sonic Team being forced to produce a movie game which in all honesty they'd be ill-equipped and inexperienced in doing so.

So yeah prime point and odds are you're probably right. With any luck Sonic Team is busy on working on something with the quality of Colours that's detached from the movie release next year.

I haven't included a direct link to the tweet because there's already random fans pestering him to spill the beans, but I figured this screencap would at least be relevant to the topic.

He says they're just "incomplete", so... that means they may be accurate in what little they say.

In honour of this thread I have the Super Mario Bros. movie (1993) ready to watch tonight. Haven't seen it since I was 8 years old? And my 8 year old mind thought it was incredible. Like Bladerunner on Mario-infused video game steroids. I'm expecting to have a blast with what will likely be a huge nostalgia rush.

Same reason I watch Michael Jackson's Moonwalker every few years or so (reminds me of my childhood). Wish me luck. :v:

  16. I'm definitely not seeing this in theaters. I'll probably download an "evaluation version" once the BD/DVD/stream comes out, and then, if it's any good, I'll buy myself a copy. I really can't afford tickets to bad movies these days, I can't even afford all the good movies that I'd like to see! Can't risk it with this one.

  17. I'm going to watch this in the theater just because I always wanted to see a Sonic movie in a theater.

Well, just got done with my Super Mario Bros. movie session last night and no amount of childhood nostalgia in the universe (hover boots notwithstanding) could hide that it was a god-awful film. It starts off innocently and promisingly enough but overall it's fucking terrible all-round. My childhood self loved it at the time but I guess thirty years of much better movies as film has evolved and improved as a medium will do that to a film that everyone thought was bad in 1993. It's truly a wonder how it's still remembered so fondly given how terrible it is.

It's hard to believe it was released in the same chasm of time and decade of stuff like The Matrix. I can see why it's somewhat of a cult classic but Christ I hope the Sonic movie turns out better than Mario's nineties attempt. Interestingly enough there's a clear set up for a sequel at the end of the film when Daisy returns to Luigi. They definitely wanted to make another one it seems - but obviously that never happened. To their credit their heart was in the right place when they made the film. Good intentions, wonderfully bad execution.

As for the Sonic film I'm definitely going to be there day one in theatres. There's no way in hell I'm missing it or waiting for the Blu Ray. Though I may come to inevitably regret that decision.

The only way I'll bother to see this film in a theater is if a. the film hits that magic sweet spot of being an entertainingly terrible movie to watch (in the vein of films like The Room, The Identical, Nine Lives, and Show Dogs) and/or b. the film has a horrible opening weekend that guarantees the film won't be able to make its money back for the rest of its theatrical run. Because I have zero desire about putting any money into this and I'm sure the eventual promotional materials (trailers, PR photos, etc.) will only guarantee that.
