My game with an extremely long name!
I suggest we hack his computer and take it by force, allowing us to have the ROM and him to get off clean, supplying us with more prototypes etc. :specialed:

    I DONE MAKED GAMES.
That's the dumbest thing I ever heard, right next to the idea of 'targeting' whoever doesn't want Shou releasing this thing; any action toward them on his behalf could also jeopardise his getting future rare games, as said party/ies most likely won't want to invite such drama on themselves in the future.

This is only semi on-topic, but would it be bad if I alerted Shou to the existence of a couple games that most people don't seem to be aware of? Or does he dislike when people do that?

I'd advise not doing that, for the same reason it's already suggested to not contact Shou over this - because tons of people are presumably having the same idea and are bombarding him with requests.

Nice ostentatious keygen .nfo scene flourish on the end there

btw no one ever said that he would be barred from a "collector" community, it's probably a lot more complicated than that knowing his relationships with other people in the industry (!)

    Welp, this.
Wow, some of y'all are incredibly sad.

The PCB is dumped. Shoutime cannot currently release it. The important part is done; the less important part is having patience to see if having a public release is ever feasible.

So, until that time, we're going to close this thread for now.

And for the love of Pete, don't harass the guy.

    [IMG] yup it's them

Videos are pouring into YouTube and Twitter. Looks like a mix of Qix and matching games like Puyo. Seems fun, but I can see why test audiences may not have enjoyed it.

I'm heading down there tomorrow to get some pictures for the wiki, and hopefully some footage as well.

That's great to hear Skyler! All the videos so far have been in the middle of gameplay, so if possible, could you try to get footage of the attract mode (tutorial?), menus and title screen and stuff?

  12. That game does not look very fun or rewarding. I can definitely now see why it was scrapped. Regardless, its great to see it preserved in any capacity.

You can usually tell when a game has heart - maybe a business decision was made to let Puyo Puyo do the work (both have a 1992 copyright), but it wouldn't surprise me if there was less than a couple of months of development work on show here.

But that's why you location test things - you see whether any of that matters, and in this case, apparently it did.

You can see why they didn't salvage this one - far better to push your staff onto more cutting edge hardware like the System 32 or Model 1 boards. If this, in a long-winded way, became SegaSonic Arcade, the right choice was made.

It indeed doesn't look very rewarding, but it's still a really interesting title from a video game history perspective.

The High Score screen looks so Puzzle Bobble, by the way, and for a reason.

Did R Belmont really add this?

Probably. If there was a problem with the donator/seller and making something public would shut down any future deals, it would be wise to take his advice...

Like, I thought he was a preservationist. I knew he has worked with ElSemi in the past but I was unaware they shared the same mentality. Which is a shame, because I now know he is holding source code to an emulator hostage rather than looking to improve MAME.

    How disappointing.

Here's that footage! A few things of note...

    - The video crops the game screen at times due to YouTube's auto-stabilzer. This was a conscious choice on my part as it was either that, or shaky footage. I still have the unedited videos though, don't worry.
    - Powering the game on greets you with the "SE-GA!" screen, lifted straight from Sonic 1.
    - I don't think the attract/tutorial mode was accessible in the state they had it while on the show floor, because I left it on the title screen for a long time (I cut some of it out of the video) and nothing came up.
    - It looks like Sonic telling you how to play is the only tutorial there is. We should get that translated.
    - I got footage of two of the four backgrounds (Green Hill, Spring Yard). I didn't get footage of the other two (Marble, Special Stage), but I did get lots of still photos of them for the Wiki.
    - Marble Zone's background appears the only one that is animated. The other three are static.

Thanks for your efforts, Skyler - this might well be the only way this thing gets any sort of preservation =/

So if MAME is off the table for now... PC fan-remake coming when? :v:
