the fucking kid who brought up s&k pc lmao izuka's response was golden the super ray and super mighty question was great too
Goddamn kid. Be courteous. We had a couple people like that at the SiIvaGunner MAGFest panel too. It made me die inside a little bit.
They incorporated the R logo for Sonic R for the racing game tease. "Not a direct sequel to any other game in the past" though.
I think that might've broken the record for the most nondescript Sonic teaser released by Sega yet. That was barely a thing.
The fact it's paid DLC really gives me hope it is a meaty update. I can't wait and I will buy the upgrades and several physicals. And did Iizuka really confirm a two tier system of development for the Classic and Modern properties? That'd be fucking amazing
Nah, I think he was just re-affirming that multiple teams work on the Sonic games more than anything, which has been true for decades now. I doubt he'd make a statement that big at SXSW.
Most exciting thing for me was that they're recognising Mania's success and green-lighting more Mania at light speed and in record time. I'm going to buy that Sonic Mania Plus physical version so hard. That was a really slick tease of the new "Sonic R" racing game too and an awesome throwback to the Saturn game. Even if the game's unrelated and not a direct sequel. Quite the awesome presentation I thought. Sonic Team made good on their promise of more Mania if the game was successful. An eventual sequel must be a certainty at this point.
While this is great. Very great. Love any mania content.... Work on spin-offs/dlc means less work on sequels. sad emoji
Holy shit. Hahahaha. Literally made me laugh out loud. EDIT: Regarding the "Sonic R" logo thing that makes me infinitely more interested in the game what with fond memories of Sonic R on the Saturn. Sega clearly knows their hardcore Sonic fanbase very well. It's not a direct sequel so wonder what the connection is? Just surface level fan service or something more meaningful?
Sega/Sonic Team almost re-used the "Sonic R" branding once already. https://www.sonicstadium.org/2005/04/sonic-r-extreme-update/ In April 2005 a multi-platform game titled "Sonic R EXTREME" was listed on a video game retailer's upcoming release list. Sega, naturally, shot it down and said no such game existed. Then in September 2005 "Sonic Riders" was announced, a multi-platform game where Sonic characters raced on "Extreme Gear", and the game's logo had a prominent red "R" (the "iders" was a white font). This upcoming game looks to be doing a similar thing with the logo, using a stylised red "R" for the word "Racing". Only this time it's the original 1997 "R".
