Well, there's already one quirk I see from watching some footage someone saved.
The characters repeat their lines every single time you go through a section, so if you died a lot, be prepared to hear the comm / Sonic banter every time on a section.

The most offensive thing about that is that they don't even theme the boosters to the level.

If you look at Mania and 3&K you'll notice that even though they have a lot of stages with boosters, each stage's boosters are unique (and have subtly unique methods of working, but that's too much for modern ST). At LEAST do that, christ.

An edit which I just felt the utmost urge to make:

I absolutely could not resist in the slightest. This 'level design' is a joke. :v:

So if the leaked stream was anything to go by, I'm kind of baffled at this game's advertising choices.
Sunset Heights/Park Avenue, the stage the game was initially showed on and all the advertising, isn't even at the beginning of the game, and is probably more of a mid-to-late game stage. The port stage that we recently got in previews just over a week ago and in the demo days ago is the second stage of the entire game. It also takes a while for Classic Sonic to really get involved in things. This basically means that all the Death Egg Robot stuff and the advertising being based almost solely around them until Infinite kicked in was a mid-game thing for seemingly no reason, and if level design hasn't been altered since E3/TGS, it's also a really pathetic stage for midgame.

Maybe I'm over-reacting but there's some dialogue in this game that apparently points to the Phantom Ruby being able to create illusions.

This means that Mania might have been an illusion.

Sonic Team's response to being beaten at their own game was to immediately declare the offending game never happened.

    Trapped in my own thoughts.
Two stageplays, a screenplay, and an album
I very much doubt they are spitefully undoing the previous game; this writing had to have been in place for quite some time.

Deliberate or no, I still have to laugh at the fact that when Iizuka/Sonic Team decided to make Mania act as a prequel/tie-in for Forces, this was literally what they meant by that. A prequel/tie-in + - that very likely may was well been "all just a dream" or "never actually happened" or whathaveyou.

More and more I'm amazed Iizuka/Sonic Team mostly left Taxman and co. to their devices in regards to crafting together the actual design of the game. I can easily envision the reality (hurr) that they took a more hands-on approach and then proceed to completely fuck up the whole thing.

I hope thats not the case, I wonder how Stealth and Taxman would feel about that if that is true?

Given what has been shown, I think it is best we treat Sonic Forces as non canon. I'd say more but doing spoiler tags on mobile is a pain.

    P. S. Go play Super Mario Odyssey instead.

Great summary so far from the 2 streams that happened:

The game so far from the stream leak:
~Sunset Heights is after Modern Green Hill.

~Sonic gets beaten by the villains and kidnapped. Note how all of them (even Shadow) glitch out.

~Space Port is one of the first Avatar levels.

~Classic Sonic appears and helps Tails and you play through Ghost Town (yes, it's the same Classic Sonic from Generations, they remember each other). The two are on their own.

~You infiltrate the Death Egg as the Avatar. You can control the drift to reach some alternate pathways btw.

~Sonic was held prisoner in the Death Egg all these months while Eggman took over. The Avatar's infiltration allows him to be free.

~You fight Zavok first, who has a giant Buzz Bomber. It's a closed arena (similar to SA1) and not like the usual Boost bosses where you run in a looped road.

~Zavok fades away, hinting he wasn't the real deal after all.

~After that, Sonic escapes in the Egg Gate, the level from what I recall is in outer space (pretty open and filled with different ways to go) and in the Death Egg and the part where he's on the ship getting shot down is a QTE segment.

~Sonic and the Avatar meet up and you go to Tag Team Green Hill.

~Then they go into the Casino Forest as Modern, there's a QTE segment where Sonic runs on and beats up a giant snake.

~We get a brief Silver vs Infinite cutscene before Sonic steps in. They get introduced to one another. Yes, we hear part of his theme song.

~Infinite Round 1. It's set in a cylinder area like we see in Lost World you run on and have to catch and hit Infinite.

~Classic Green Hill (we're on Stage 10 btw). Tails talks about how the world needs a Sonic and he just so happens to show up.

~After that, another Modern level in the Casino Forest, but it may have been an SOS mission, not another level.
~avatar tracks down classic and tails at aqua road(shitty gimmick level) and the two reunite with modern
~the gang heads to city heights, the first stage we saw after they hear shadow is tearing up the resistance
~sonic tries to convince shadow not to fight but he attacks
~the real shadow stops time, and kicks the shit out of the clone, defeating it. there isn't even a boss
~shadow reveals infinite uses virtual reality projections and he can create unlimited ones, so there's no way they can win
~sonic says they have to find a way and the gang charge metropolis
~infinite starts using his powers to create these big chaos 0 type projections with his head on them(LOL) and attacks you all level
~the extended cast has done nothing this whole time except tell rookie or sonic to do things
~they make a run for it during the metropolis level and leave it up to rookie
    ~garbage infinite fight happens
~its implied infinite and avatar know each other
~chemical plant is straight in the game, tails and classic go there
~they discover that the phantom ruby creates illusions"

So I didn't want to criticize the game too much without actually getting my hands on it. I had noticed very early on that there were things about the controls that looked off, and I wanted to actually see how well they stacked up to Generations. The controls were some of the only things that kept me playing the boost games, so I was really concerned about how well they would translate into this game.

    ...They're pretty bad.

I didn't even bother trying to get to the end, I just fucked around with the controls, and they are definitely nowhere near the level of Generations and Unleashed. They're even worse than Colors. Almost as bad as Lost World honestly.

    - Sonic's acceleration is jank, since he doesn't build speed naturally and then sporadically juts forward into a full speed
    - Handling's awkward because it doesn't scale accurately with the increase in speed, so you have really sensitive turning for every other speed than "full speed" (which just randomly happens btw)
    - Jumping feels horrible because it's too heavy and stiff, and the double jump is even heavier and stiffer than the regular jump (you also lose your ability to move in midair, and also lose a bit of speed)
    - You lose a tremendous amount of speed when jumping into enemies while not homing attacking them, meaning tricks like boost bouncing off of enemies and chaining jumps together is impossible now
    - Because the slide wants you to physically force the controller foward in order to use it, using a quick stomp to land on the ground can be a bit finnicky since you might perform a slide right after when you didn't mean to (you also automatically slide if you stomp on a hill or slope, which didn't happen in Gens).
    - The quick step lanes are too big so you basically teleport from one side of the road to another
    - And yup, there's no manual drift.

The avatar isn't much better, in fact I think they made the movement with them even worse and more jank. And I don't think I need to talk about Classic Sonic.

God, level design aside, this game shits all over the stuff I LIKED about the boost to begin with. Fuck linearity as long as you have a lot of engaging shit for me to do, with actions that have some sense of functionality to them. None of the stuff I could comfortably do in Gens and Unleashed is here at all! It feels like they wanted to take the controls back to Sonic Colors level, but they forgot that you didn't boost that much in colors, and used the wisp more than half the time. I guess that explains why they lined rows upon rows of the paths with white wisp containers. Even if the level design does somehow get better + - which given the leaks of later levels I HIGHLY doubt it will   , they've still taken away the one part of the game that actually matters. The control. "The character is the medium which you use to interact with the game world, so if they don't play well who cares how well the levels are made?". That pretty much sums this game up for me. I'm certain this isn't worth my time now. Thanks Sonic Team, you saved me 40 bucks and months of regret.

According to some guys on 4chan (yeah yeah I know :v:) Seaside Hill is back as well. Holy fucking shit, they really are gonna reuse all the damn Gens assets aren't they?

this is one of those things that should be taken with a massive grain of salt until the next leak stream, but apparently someone on 4chan (grain of salt), that at the end, when they get the Phantom Ruby, all the fakes get absorbed into the it, including Mania Sonic, and he just disappears inside the Ruby living in some virtual world, and that Mania was just an illusion. Something that makes a weird amount of sense when you realize one of the boss themes from Mania is called "Ruby Illusions." If this is true, and I hope it isn't, then this is the biggest gut-punch I've seen for a game especially considering that was the game that got me back into Sonic after 6 years. That the game isn't even real, and leaves how logical a Mania 2 would be.

there probably will be one, though. Money speaks larger than canon, when it comes to Sonic Team, but that thought still feels like a slap. probably overreacting though, Mania is still a great game that actually exists, after all :v:/>/>

If that ending rumor is true, then Sonic Forces is worst than both Sonic 06 & Rise of Lyric. No question.
