I liked my Green chao best. It also one of those things that no one ever talked about either. I always brought it up every couple of years though.
Nothing terribly interesting about this, but here's some prototype footage of Sonic Heroes I unearthed (EDIT: OKei actually had a better version of this in his channel, which I am linking to below): Everything seems to be the same besides the different sound effects: Tails uses the flying sound from the classic games; Knuckles's voice lines for punching are switched; The stone blocks make different sounds when broken; I believe the characters' footsteps sound different (or you can barely hear them in the final version); The balloons use the same sound as the item boxes; The sound effect for the rings has that annoying overlapping issue you hear in some games. And this is very likely just me misremembering, but can you actually get speed shoes from checkpoints in the final version?
I probably should have searched your channel first :v: Always good to see you, Keiji. No sense in keeping my version since the quality is inferior. I'll go ahead and replace the links.
Interesting that they changed Tails flight sound effect. SA1 included the same sound effect, but it went unused in the final build, probably because it was too annoying. It returned in SA2, but obviously you'd only ever get the chance to hear it in the Chao Gardens.
Gigalopolis Zone from Sonic Chaos. It's a level that changed its music when moving from the Master System to the Game Gear. We were never sure why - now we know: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=483vfdPkXXE http://www.synthmania.com/m1.htm Now I don't have a Korg M1, so I can't verify this, but it looks as if Sega just borrowed a big chunk of one of its factory presets. I imagine, given the popularity of the Korg M1 as a synthesizer back in the day, someone noticed. Oops.
In a really bad theorycrafting thread. I hadn't heard about this before. Weren't both songs in either version's sound test? I wonder what's the story with that.
Not relating to anything but quite an amusing story of a SEGA magazine offering 1 million pounds in a hoax competition to find the hidden character ‘Rankles the Green Otter’ in Sonic 3. The funny thing is that a green Knuckles was apparently found through debug mode in Launch Base. An interesting anecdote at the very least. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjD1Wofo_VQ&feature=share
I remember Rankles! Although as they said in the magazine, the green Knuckles in Launch Base didn't have the spiky ankles, which is why they couldn't give the money. Rankles popped-up in few later issues of the magazine.
I remember posting my answer for the question about the S3&K ending...several weeks after the issue was released. I think I gave up waiting for the Multimega several months later.
I dunno, but I always held all 3 buttons after the first reel stopped and it seemed to give me more wins than normal. Although this may be in the same vein as "hold b to capture pokemon" and suchlike.
In the Official Sega Magazine UK cheats guide, it says repeatedly tapping the C button one the slot machines gives you 3 of the same item. It's been a while since I've tried it but I seem to remember it working.
No, the slot machines don't use button presses at any point in the code, the result is determined as soon as you enter the machine (SlotMachine_Routine3) based on the global frame counter (Vint_runcount). I've posted a list of the probabilities of every possible result in this thread before.
Looks like a mix between the early Fleetway pre-transformation Sonic with the Sonic Channel Tails pose.
