Why not just use SonicFreak94's Lantern Engine mod? It makes the gloss a lot better by actually using lighting data from the Dreamcast version. It's pretty faithful to the original game as far as character lighting is concerned.
Lots of progress has been made, Sonic is finished, Tails is finished, and Knuckles is broken. One day it'll be out, I just really need time to get it debugged at this point.
If you really want to keep up with the mod's development, you should join the IRC Channel at irc.badnik.zone #x-hax (webchat).
Actually I have a suggestion for MainMemory... Can you fix Tikal's head please? In Nogloss mod she is only one character who have gloss on her head then she speaks. This is buggin me for years.
So I've been meaning to look for the Casino cowgirl in non-Japanese versions of SA1, and I found it in the US version, but to my surprise it's also in SADX, offset 01A5B870 in sonic.exe. It doesn't seem to be referenced by code and I haven't found the animation yet, but it's interesting she's still in the game data. The Cowgirl addon for the Dreamcast mod uses the model from the original Japanese version, which I sorted manually to avoid transparency issues. The SADX model isn't sorted so making it show up ingame would cause visual glitches with transparent pieces. Still cool she's in the data though, maybe someday we'll be able to get her SADX model to show up as-is. Interestingly the SADXPC model has its UVs adapted for vanilla SADXPC mirrored textures, which means it was likely converted on purpose.
I don't think you can necessarily read into things like that, too much. While plausible that they intended to use it, it might also be a case of one of the lower level workers being given the tedious task of converting stuff, and they were doing a whole bunch of other assets along with it and didn't know it was unused. Awesomesauce.
Since the Mod Loader has been updated with support for menu scaling, I guess it's time to post an update for HD GUI here. Those of you using Dreamcast mods have probably seen it already, but in case you want a standalone release here it is, complete with self-update support. It can be used with or without the DC mods (although the tutorials will refer to the DC controller and the options screen will have VMU icons). Please load this mod AFTER all other GUI-related mods, including DC Branding! This update takes advantage of the new Mod Loader capabilities (menu scaling + PVMX archives) to add high-resolution text and menus for almost all GUI in the game. I've upscaled and/or remade stuff like the file select menu, character select screen, all trial menus etc., even character tutorials! The only things this mod doesn't replace are assets related to Chao, Mission Mode and Game Gear games. Oh, and the subtitle font because there is currently no way to HDify it. Known glitch: some menu items may get cut off or display incorrectly until the character select screen is loaded at least once. Things like the songs in the sound test or the bottom right part of the file select screen. This is a known issue with the Mod Loader itself. Screenshots available here
Some random 2009 stuff, ring and dash sounds replaced with similar ones from Quake 3 Arena's unofficial russian VO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jk0opYgQnM
Looking good! I plan on working on some additional elements such as recreated backgrounds and touched up options icons. I hope to get to those as time permits.
Hey all you people who actually make mods for SADX: I'm wondering what version of Windows you're using. This will help with some tool development decisions regarding the 3D viewers. I want to know whether or not I need to maintain a Direct3D 9 renderer or if I can drop it in favor of Direct3D 10+. I've made a poll on Twitter here. It'll be up for a week, so if you could vote I'd appreciate it!
Has there ever been a "No Upgrade" mod for DX? I know there is one for SA2, but I've never seen one for DX. I could do with getting rid of Sonic's Light Speed shoes, never been the biggest fan of them.
Same with Tails' badge and Knuckles' yellow gloves. On a similar note, would it be possible to make a mod that gives Metal Sonic his SA2B animations? Or at least one that'll fix his standing/running poses without having to overwrite Sonic's character slot?
Does anyone know how feasible it would be to edit the Samba GP DLC to use a different racing track? That way we could create a different version for each unused track, similarly to how people made custom SA2 theme files to unlock the unused themes.
There is now. http://youtu.be/TrEcRn4VaBE Download Porting animations from SA2B would be very difficult if the models' skeletons are not the same, which they probably aren't. As for fixing the existing animations, both have been done before, and my Metal Sonic mod fixes the running animation.
