But eh, to gush a bit.... I'm thinking Hydrocity (because it's totally a lock, right) and hoping for Lava Reef. Mushroom Hill is my favourite S&K zone, but I think Mania already does well what Mushroom Hill does best; speed and options. Sandopolis please no. It drags imo. Hidden Palance, been done. Sky Sanctuary, been done. Death Egg, been done and too old canon. Doomsday, not really the time or place. Leaving Flying Battery or Lava Reef. I think LRZ would win the popularity vote, but at the same time I feel like FBZ is the more likely candidate. More ways for them to play with space and speed, more funky gimmicks, more upbeat music, less tied up with story, and as someone else mentioned, it's an airship. They can dump it anywhere and it works. So FBZ probably more likely, but I'd prefer LRZ. Hydrocity feels like a better mix with Lava Reef too. .... Need more green.
It doesn't need to, though. The trope is good, the art and music are good, and parts of the layout are good. Since they're doing a good deal of redesign and reimagining anyway, I hardly see the failings of the original as a reason not to try to do it better this time.
The main reason to reject Sandopolis is that we already have Desert Dazzle Mirage Saloon. When was Hidden Palace done?
The S2 beta version was done for the Sonic 2 port. Hidden Palace i.e. Lava Reef: Electric Boogaloo hasn't been done.
Nope. Had enough green (and city) in Generations. Personally I feel like any stage done in either Generations version should not be touched beyond GHZ (because that was a given). So no Casino Night, Chemical Plant, Mushroom Hill, or Sky Sanctuary. I'm willing to give a pass on the boss levels as while they have been done, their respective stages were not touched (Stardust Speedway, Death Egg, and Launch Base).
Agreed on this. Maybe not so much for Stardust Speedway because only one of the four time zones appeared in Generations, but definitely the others. I'd be really disappointed to see any of the Generations stages getting a special revisit in this game unless the catalogue of retro stages is actually enormous. Generations gave us some fantastic new takes on the classic stages, particularly with Chemical Plant going into meltdown and Sky Sanctuary becoming a sort of tropical paradise. Those stages have had their time to shine, so others should be at the front of the queue instead.
I'm guess one of those weird sickos that actually likes Sandopolis, apparently. :v: I mean I get why not everyone likes it, but I love how many secrets and off-beaten paths there are in both acts. It also has my favorite glitch in the entire game.
Nah I like Sandopolis too. At this point though I know how to play it so it's not so daunting anymore.
I also like Sandopolis and prefer act 2 over act 1. The whole ghosts get bigger/more menacing as the stage gets darker thing is really cool. I'd love if the "Hyudoro" ghosts appear in Mania! Spoiler A few weeks back I did a no-hit ghost permanently attacking playthrough of act 2. Yikes! Lava Reef being re-imagined for Mania would be neat. Actually, I'd quite like them to bring back Mushroom Hill (and use the beta name Mushroom Valley).
Hell, if the ghosts bother people that much, they can be technically skipped through glitch abuse. If Sandopolis gets remade in Mania I'd love for that to still exist.
The stage I want is the ruins of the Death Egg. The wreckage didn't land on Angel Island this time around, and I doubt it's still in one piece. This is the kind of stage I want. Not old stuff "revamped". I want updated versions of old stages. GHZ is a good one to return because of how recognizable it is, but for other stages I want to see the aftermath of the previous games. Maybe if Knuckles starts in AIZ like we theorized, we can see everything starting to grow back after it was burned down in S3(&K).
If we're talking about dreams, I know that the 8-bit games won't get much love (if at all), but I'd still love to see a recreation of the train from Sunset Park Zone on a screen bigger than 160×144 pixels, even as a small intermission between two zones (or even within a zone). Also, I wish we could get some obscure power-ups, like the Rocket Shoes from Sonic Chaos. I think Cinossu implemented them in S1EE but we all know he isn't going to release his hack until 3016 if all goes well, so :U
As long as they don't include the Sonic 2 8 bit version of Green Hills Zone or Scrambled Egg Zone I'm good. (Those levels can burn in hell.)
So I'm pretty sure Mania will be at least 10 zones, as even Sonic 2 was 20 acts total (18 if you won't want to really count death egg/sky chase). Generations was 9 zones + boss stages (18 acts + 7ish boss stages). To beat that you'll need at least 20 main acts and MAYBE specific boss acts. Maybe. Then, taken a step further, if there are more classic stages than new, a balance of 6 classic and 5 new seems logical. Personally, I'd love it if the game was s3&K length (24 acts + 2 dedicated boss stages, with the final one being chaos emerald only unlockable) Even Sonic 1 is 18 acts + 1 final boss stage. (9 zones total if we count that as 2 acts each) There's no way Mania is going to be less than that AND longer than generations. And at least most zones being 2 acts is more or less confirmed.
Cries because I really loved Green Hills especially for it's music Anyways, if they were to include a level from the 8 bit games, it should be either Mecha Green Hill and Aqua Planet from Sonic Chaos. Not only did they have kick ass songs (yay more You Can Do Anything remixes), but I've always liked the theme of the levels where in Mecha Green Hill we see what would happen if Eggman actually took over an entire island, and Aqua Planet being... well.. an aqua planet (I just find it cool). Oh and also there's probably no chance of Sandopolis appearing since we have Mirage Saloon, which I'm kinda glad since I felt that level was way too confusing.
