I was really hoping it was a global challenge, but nope. It might be running a little smoother on my S4? Not sure-- I've been on wifi the whole time since the update, and I've noticed it runs like shit when I rely on my carrier's internet. It honestly does run just about buttery smooth when I'm on wifi... kind of curious if it "phones home" a lot, even during gameplay, and that slows it down.
The global challenge is now live. Every thousand points you earn while playing counts as one point toward the global challenge. As for the recent update, it's seems a bit smoother to me as well (running on a Galaxy S3). The camera bug I reported still isn't fixed, though.
How does these global challenges go? I was just going to unlock things on my end, but if things get tight, then I'll go above and beyond.
Basically, there's a set time during which the global challenge is in effect. During this time, any global challenge points you earn are applied toward both your progress and the global progress. Once you've finished one stage of your progress, you have to wait for the global progress to finish that stage before you can work on the next stage of your progress. However, any points you earn will still be applied to the global progress. When both sides are filled up, the prize is awarded.
Have they removed the requirement to read your address book in the new update? That one was where I drew the line for installing Dash.
Looking through "App Settings" on Sonic Dash 1.10.1.Go, it lists the following permissions: ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE (View network connections) ACCESS_WIFI_STATE (View Wi-Fi connections) GET_ACCOUNTS (Find accounts on the device) INTERNET (Full network access) READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Test access to protected storage) READ_PHONE_STATE (Read phone status and identiy) VIBRATE (Control vibration) WAKE_LOCK (Prevent phone from sleeping) WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Modify or delete the contents of your USB storage) [why?] BILLING (Google Play billing service) RECEIVE (Receive data from the Internet) com.sega.sonicdash.permission.C2D_MESSAGE (some pseudo-permission that prevents other programs from receiving this application's messages) READ_CONTACTS isn't listed.
GET_ACCOUNTS was what I was thinking of. In that case, nope, still no dice. (As for why WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE - save files, I'd assume.)
I did my part for the Global Challenge and also found the game doesn't like when you go for very high scores. Basically, I got a final score of about 18.5 million points, but after I broke 10 million, the game's FPS began to drop. I figured it was some other resource on my tablet conflicting, so I went to the main menu, killed every process except Dash relevant ones, went back... and the FPS dropped even more and kept dropping as my score went higher. At around 16 million, it was almost unplayable, so I died to silly things. Got to 18 million purely on finishing bonus. Learn to optimize your game, monkeys.
So have I, but there have been three updates since I reported that camera bug and it still persists, even though they told me the issue had been marked as resolved.
Jesus this challenge is the easiest thing ever. I played two rounds where I got 2.7 million points each and beat the first two stages already. Too bad the prize is Rouge (Seriously, Rouge? No Metal Sonic or Espio or Classic Sonic. Rouge. Why?)
