What if this version of Hidden Palace Zone...

... has a boss?

 

I'm glad Sega & Sonic Team let it in, but also sad that I am more excited about their ports than their new games.

 

Clearly it'll just be the drill boss from Mystic Cave :v:

 

Yes! Yes! Yes! A dream 15 years in the making is finally coming true! Woohoo!

 

I will be massively disappointed if it's the drill boss all over again, but I could live with it if the layout is fun and as close to the source material as possible. Still, an original boss to boot would really show off what the good ol' Retro engine I remember from Retro Sonic is capable of. This makes me want to play that old demo again, I think I'll do that.

 

Also, is it too much to ask to possibly see prototype music as an option, and alternate level layouts (Metropolis 3).

Anything beyond that would just be a God like.

 

Never hath their been such yes in a thread! I'm so excited! Probably too much to ask that you actually play through the level after getting the emeralds to unlock Super Sonic, but honestly I'm so happy it made it in at all, I wouldn't feel any disappointment. Stealth, Taxman, you are my heroes.

Holy living fuck! Sonic 2 Android was already going to be a day one sale for me, this news just blew my mind.

Gah, another treasure taunted in front of us console gamers (though I wouldn't bet much against a fan recreation being made of it in a hack before long).

HPZ is a great bonus, I just hope they do a more innovative job than some of the hack versions, there isn't that many gimmicks in the level just from it's beta elements and so most fan attempts felt very repetitive where the original layout ended. Hopefully Taxman found out some unused plans for the level, or made some new ones that blend well with the original. After all this will now be the official version of one of the most elusive lost levels in gaming history.

The bat badnik is confirmed, so I wonder if the dinosaur ones will reappear too.

 

I'm wondering how they're handling the music. Is it the same short tune that plays in the final version?

It'd be pretty damn cool if they composed new/extended music for it. Awesome news, either way.

 

I want to see everyone explode when Wood Zone appears.

Otherwise, it'll be another 20 years until it gets added in.

We find Ice Cap's demo no more than a few weeks ago and then suddenly Hidden Palace is canon? Guess Sonic Retro's done guys. Time to close up shop.
