Oh anyway about that whole lives system thread? As in "Why does Sonic have lives?" there's your answer Pre-Order DLC
Oh god! Everything makes sense now!! Mr. Ohtani, you are one crafty bastard. :v: (Okay we should stop now srsly.) EDIT: I do got a question to make this post worth something. Awhile back there was a Sonic 3DS being shown in pics, was that a skin or is their an actual Sonic 3DS somewhere thats being released with this game?
Wow, just as bland and flavorless as the rest of this game looks! A perfect match. Not that it matters, I don't even have a Wii U.
I respectfully disagree, but I guess I get it. I freaking love Windy Hill's music, and the game looks fantastic. When I played it at TGS the only thing that bothered me about it is using the Wii Pad the controls are just a bit clunky. Besides that it feels a lot more like a Sonic game than some of the recent outings.
Eh. This game just isn't for me. I'm sure everyone else who likes it will enjoy it. Just doesn't check any of the boxes of things I like.
Pretty much exactly how I felt when I played it at Boom. I figure the control thing will be something I'll get used to. I honestly think this game will be the best Sonic game in about a decade, or at least a very close second to Generations. I really can't wait to play (and hear) more.
I like the music. But, I don't think I've actually talked in this thread about my opinions so far on the game once, have I? I'm excited for the game, I think it's going to be a great platformer. But, as a "Sonic game", in the sense that we at Retro tend to use... not so much? I'm pretty sure I won't like this game for any of the same reasons I like, say, Generations. Or the classics, for that matter. The sense of momentum has been entirely uprooted for their bizarro-world un-physics and digital speed control. But, well, to be honest, I think those elements will actually play in Lost World's favor. I feel like the multiple-speed system with parkour and stuff is actually a good and interesting innovation - sure, other games in the past have had a run button, but Sonic Lost World is doing really interesting things with it. Platformers tend to not be the most innovative things, and it's neat to see Sega doing something that's entirely different. (A minor tangent - while we're on the subject of innovation in platformers, it's worth noting that Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 were major innovations in their own right - they proved that freedom from the constraint of gravity means more freedom in the level design, and Galaxy 2 in particular proved that it was more than just a gimmick, as they stepped further away from the "IN SPACE" theme and just had their gravity-bending levels speak for themselves. Sonic Lost World takes some huge obvious pages from that, but I'm glad it does - it just allows the level designers more freedom to stretch their imaginations. I hope even more 3D platformers start to deal with unconventional gravity in the future.) Anyway though, my point is, Lost World has these elements that can be good, but not really for a Sonic game - once again, at least in the sense that we at Retro tend to see it. What does it mean to be a Sonic game? Because, it really seems like Lost World's only real claim to that is that it stars Sonic. Is that necessarily a negative thing, though? I mean, I guess I do understand if you don't LIKE other platformers; then obviously the game's not for you. But, aside from that, to me it seems like, on its own merits, it's going to be a well-made, well-designed 3D platformer, and I think that's good enough. Not like, saying you're stupid or whatever if you like other platformers but think this game is gonna suck. This is just my opinion and stuff!
I played it at Eurogamer. Ehhh. I picked Frozen Factory 3 (Casino Night Homage) I just don't know. Not the best level for a newbie I guess. Camera feels too far away and it didn't feel anything like Generations. I'm surprised that with the amount of quick step like (Right angled electric barriers for example) areas that there is no quick step. So far. I'm not turned off because I am a dumb Sonic fan. But it wasn't what I was expecting. I then played Bayonetta 2. It was good. 40 minutes in line. Early bird ticket wasted. Nintendo needs to buy more floor next year.
I partially disagree. Yes, it's different from previous Sonic games, but lots of Sonic games are. Sonic Team changes up the franchise all the time. I mean, this is how many times things have changed up (not necessarily in chronological order): The original trilogy & Sonic CD* > Sonic 3D Blast > Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 > Sonic Heroes > Shadow the Hedgehog & Sonic 2006 > Sonic and the Secret Rings > Sonic Unleashed & Generations > Sonic and the Black Knight > Sonic Colours* > Sonic Lost World Sometimes it's a major change in tone, sometimes in gameplay. This also isn't counting how many times the games changed visually. Sonic Lost World isn't a game that's like Sonic Unleashed/Generations, but Sonic Unleashed wasn't a game that's like the original trilogy, Sonic Adventure or Sonic 2006 either. *These are debatable.
Well, all right. I'm not trying to start an argument or whatever, but just hear me out. Windy Hill's theme is just an underwhelming piece of music to hear in a Sonic game, let alone one as balls-to-the-wall crazy as this. When I think, "huge, twisted landscapes suspended above a surreal cartoon fantasy land", I don't hear anything like Windy Hill's theme play in my head. That's the kind of music that makes me wanna go on a picnic or something, you know? It's just so bouncy and repetitive and.... almost bland. It just doesn't feel ADVENTUROUS enough, and it's totally inappropriate for a Sonic game, at least in my eyes. And, I know people have also said this about the gameplay, but... it reminds me of Mario Galaxy. Now, I'm happy with them taking inspiration from a good game in some aspects, but the music is a huge part of a game's identity and what you remember them for, and this kind of music just don't make me think about Sonic when I hear it... and the rest of the music we've heard so far, while okay, isn't anything stellar. The music that you and others composed for Sonic ATS, though, now THAT is PROPER "Sonic" music. The melodies are strong and memorable, like genesis era music, and they're composed in a way that makes them pretty reminiscent of Sonic Adventure's soundtrack. That's the sort of music I find appropriate for a Sonic game. Maybe other people don't feel that strongly about it, but to me, that's the ideal sort of soundtrack for a Sonic game, and that's all I was trying to express. There, I hope everyone who had issues with that video understands where I'm coming from, now. In any case, it's still bound to be an amazing game.
I also love Falk and want him to have my babies, but there are no such things as "proper Sonic music". Like TimmiT said, things change quite a lot. Sonic Unleashed doesn't sound like Sonic 2. Sonic CD doesn't sound like Shadow the Hedgehog. Sonic's music have changed a lot in and will continue to change. Windy Hill's theme may actually don't make you feel adventurous, but that's your opinion, your taste in music, personally I love the melody, is like the Sonic Trilogy & CD music played in the Sonic Colors fashion which is more jazz than rock 'n roll. It's peaceful, nice to hear and just a pretty composition that sets the tone quite nicely if you ask me and it also makes me feel way more adventurous than to some YEAH WAY PAST COOL YEAH YEAH music by Crush 40.
