So before work (And the fact I couldn't get much sleep last night) I bought Zaxxon Escape for a dollar. It also happens to have a link for MORE GAMES which brings you to a dedicated Applify webpage for all the mobile Sega games. It shows all the games put out by Sega. There is one Sonic game in the list that isn't in the Play store yet. If you attempt to go buy it, it launches the Play store and says Item Not Found. It may not be up until sometime later. Whats the game? It's Sonic 1 for Android. Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
Spoilers: The lone screenshot in the Applify page showed what looked similar to the emulated front-end of the iOS version.
Didn't we know this ages ago? I can't remember the source, but the Wikipedia page for Sonic 1 had an Android release slated for October months ago.
In the land that doesn't care about Sonic... Seriously why do they still bother making exclusive Sonic stuff for Japan?
Japan is big on having pack-in titles with cell phone/device carriers. Like how Sonic 1 and 2 java appeared exclusively (initially) on Panasonic phones years ago.
The app also says there are leaderboards and achievements for the Android version of Sonic CD. What's that about?
What about Sonic Advance Android which is still Japan exclusive (though the DRM was cracked on the same day) That one was an actual port rather than a simple packaged emulator.
Oh yeah, I forgot to ever give that a go! Didn't it suffer from frame rate issues though? On the Sonic 1 thing, I believe that Taxman is probably right, these kind of mishaps happen a lot. Not gonna say it's a shame either, though - Sonic 1 has received way too many ports and re-releases now.
Crashes for me on loading screen. But I'll let Sega have my dollar and trust they'll fix it. A Zaxxon revival is just too cool even if it doesn't boot on my device.
I still want that Sonic Dash Quiz game that came out in Japan a few years ago. There's sprites that need to be ripped!
