I can't believe nobody's made a topic about this, yet. As some of you might remember, SEGA is releasing official translations of Wonder Boy in Monster Land arcade and Monster World 4 for the Mega Drive, as part of a "SEGA Vintage Collection" bundle on Xbox and PS3 (a Wii version was originally announced as well, but we'll see). The news is that the release date has been leaked as being April the 25th. Info here and here. Of course, note that these versions are not related to their respective arcade bootleg and the fan translation. No idea if the translations were made back in the day and just left unreleased until now but, in any case, it's very nice that they're releasing such things nowadays.
It's great to see this game is finally going to be released in English... but... Where's Monster World II port? =( Why SEGA ignore their 8-bit games so hard?
I can't wait for Monster World IV! I may just end up buying an english repro if I like it. I'm glad to see that Sega is still set on releasing it. I was worried for months that plans fell through after hearing nothing for a year.
Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Super Hang-on and Revenge of Shinobi are coming too Page is gone but have some screens. Alex Kidd Shinobi Hang-On One collection for all 3 of them.
The more you know: Hang-On SHOULD be called in theory Hang-Off- but the name given was incorrect because of a mis-understanding... :P
For the record, that tidbit of info was mentioned by Yu Suzuki in an interview Arino conducted with him in Game Center CX. Gotta love that show.
Exactly where I got it from! One of the series he did another interview with Hideo Kojima (Director of MGS) which turned up alot of interesting info behind the scenes of a couple of the games that things that he wanted that ultimately had to be cut or changed~
Wait a second... I was assuming the Super Hang-On in the other compilation was the Mega Drive version, but I've just noticed that it's actually the arcade original. Also... A 3D mode for an old classic? Now that makes things much more interesting!
YES! I loved Monster World IV ever since I got round to playing an unofficial translation of it last Summer, and it's great to see that Sega is still bringing the game overseas. Though I wonder if it will still be brought to the Virtual Console as well.
This is part of the latest of the Sega Ages family: http://ages.sega.jp/ The non-Monster World games are also getting individual releases on the PS3, and the Alex Kidd and Co. one is called Sega Classics Collection in Japan.
Purchased a micro-switch controller for 360 and have a Saturn USB set up for PS3, plus I have my duct tape and my National Geographic 3D glasses from the 90s ready. Bring It On. PS: did anyone else notice the menus are different on PS3 and 360?
Even more SEGA Vintage Collections coming: Sega Vintage Collection: Golden Axe Sega Vintage Collection: Streets of Rage Hopes for an official uncensored Streets of Rage 3 rising...
They leaked those a day or so after the first leak. Too bad it is called 'Vintage Collection' instead of its proper name. Even while dead the 'SEGA of America' goofs still corrupt things. I assume this was all decided upon before they closed down to fit in with their Backbone junk.
Okay I understand how the Sega Ages Online works: on the Xbox 360 you get the full package (Sega Classics Collection and Monster World Collection) while on the PS3 you have to download each game individually. I wonder if they'll do that here too... assuming Sega Vintage Collection is happening after all. No news on the other two. EDIT er whoops it's Monster World Collection, not Monster World Complete Collection
That would be M2, who we do have listed as developing the 360 sites, but there's a chance it could really be Backbone again — we'll have to see also TIL there was always Sega Vintage argh
