Well it's been a week and I'm already bored of this game. I guess it's because I'm not anal enough to S rank everything, spend hours on the missions that arnt terribly fun, or fart about speedrunning for e-penis, and I couldn't care less for trophies either. This game needs more Chao Garden, as much as SA2 did wrong, if anyone ever makes a game that I'll play as much as I played SA2 back in the day, that will be a feat indeed. I feel like I've PLAYED this game now, and part of the problem, in my opinion, that there's neither a story mode or an option to play through the stages in order. I always go back to the classics because I can pick them up, kill some time playing through the game, and then go do something else. With Generations, there's no flow, I just seem to wonder aimlessly around the hub world looking desperately for something to entertain me. It's probably just because I'm not hardcore and am completely rubbish at games in general. I have had a lot of fun with this game though, guess I'll hope (fruitlessly) for DLC.
There's a poll on the official Sega forums (started by a random forum user) about which Genesis era zones fans would like to see as DLC. I am happy to report that Ice Cap Zone is currently thrashing everything with a ridiculous 70% of the vote even when going up against zones like Hydrocity and Flying Battery. Do it Sonic Team. Do it. PS. There's no way I'll be playing this game until early 2012 due to selling my 360 (and not even having a television either) but it is very positive to see that overall the game has gone down a storm here. Most of you whose opinions I care about seem to be the ones loving the game. Spoiler ISN'T THAT RIGHT HEZ BROFIST ME RIGHT HERE WHERE'S THAT DEMO OF SONIC CLASSIC 2 BROFIST ME BRO.
So, one week into the game and I already have all but one achievement (need to do a ranked run for Planet Wisp Act 2) and everything is S-Ranked. Yeah, some DLC is a must. Like a full-length Stardust Speedway would be cool. Of the ones on that poll, the ones I'd like to see most are Starlight, Mystic Cave, Hydrocity, and Lava Reef/Hidden Palace.
Yes I know. It might not mean anything at all. However Sega's marketing team are on those forums (Ken "Hadouken!" Barlow and Aaron "Electric circuit!" Webber) and do read them as well as posting from time to time so if and when Sega do market research to determine which DLC zone would sell the most it's good to know that a recent poll is there on the forums to potentially influence their decisions. Ice Cap Zone is the most popular zone they missed plus it would allow the game to have real representation of Sonic 3. Something tells me however they'll rush out Stardust Speedway instead just before Christmas as a revenue-grab given they have the assets partially completed.
I can't really see that poll doing anything to be honest. I'd be surprised if any sizeable DLC happens. If it did, what I'd like to see, is Flying Battery, with a Sky Chase Zone section at the beginning for Classic Sonic. But DLC costs time effort and money, so hows about this SEGA: A classic Sky Sanctuary mission where you battle against Mecha Sonic, complete with the reuse of old bosses. Hits the nostalgia button, and is cost effective. Easy money.
Sega All-Stars Racing had a completely new level for DLC (Death Egg Zone track) with a second level planned that was cancelled due to the game's lower than expected sales. DLC will be dependent on sales (potential userbase and all that) so if Generations kills it this Christmas and breaks a million or something miraculous then Sega will go all-out with DLC.
While not directly related to Sonic Generations : Steam was hacked I finished everything now. I am tempted to change my Mario 3D land preorder to Sonic Generations but I know it will get a price drop right after Christmas.
.... >Genesis era level poll >Spring Yard votes = 0 Are you SERIOUS people?! >sees Ice Cap is the top contender ...Okay, that's not so bad... Also, one extra level from each era is not only a must, but would be amazingly awesome. Hell, All Stars Racing wasn't really a main Sonic game. It was just fun, and I'm sure sold LESS than Generations will (I'm sure day 1 sales were next to nothing compared to Generations). If DLC was made for that game, but is not planned at ALL for this one, SEGA has officially lost their minds. The Dreamcast and Modern eras being represented would be aweseome as well. Hang Castle comes to mind; very unique stage, that one. I can see the Unleashed formula taking advantage of many aspects of that stage. Half suprised, half not, that Metal Harbor is currently #2 in terms of votes for Dreamcast DLC on that other poll. SEGA might go with that, I theorize, if Hang Castle looks like it'd be too long for them. That is, if they actually do stage DLC at all.. which they should. My only problem with Generations getting Ice Cap is I expect Modern to handle almost exactly like he did in Cool Edge. Read: that's NOT good.
> Sees poll > Carnival Night not an option > Seriously, it would be so much fun to play a reimagined Carnival Night. 3D Barrel, anyone?
I'm sad that I only have two more levels before I win this game. I've been trying to take it really slow so I can enjoy it. If they do DLC, Ice Cap could be used for either Genesis or DC era.
Ice Cap probably won't be a level because of it's music. It, Carvinal Night, and Launch Base's music tracks aren't in Generations. If it is, expect to hear the PC version tune.
Considering Sonic 3 has been re-released countless times with the music intact, I doubt the music would be replaced.
Yeah, and don't expect to ever see a re-release of Space Channel 5 Part 2 for 360, PS3 or PC, because this part would have to be mute...
Sad. That was my exact thought, too. When it's been re-released in it's original form, it's had the music intact. The one time it was re-made it had the music changed. I don't think it's a coincidence that Generations didn't have those three tracks, especially when they're (arguably) the most memorable from the game.
If this ever happens, they better not add a little pop-up hint when you jump on it. That would totally ruin it.
Hydro city needs more votes. There isn't a proper water level in the game. Also + 1 for Carnival night too, there also isn't a casino level in the game at all! ... Crisis City zone kinda fills the Lava Reef spot. Fuck it, Sonic Generations 2 should just be Sonic 2 + Sonic 3 & Knuckles HD.
Yes, but what if that is because the original agreement allows them do that as long the original game isn't majorly modified? That is probably the same reason why they have gotten away with re-releasing Sonic 1 and 2 with the music intact and we know Sega clearly doesn't own the music in those games.
