Feedback goes both ways? You're gonna have to elaborate on that. What exactly does the production crew have to give feedback on?

Also, it'd be nice if you understood that some people like the tracks just the way they are. Certain notes have to sound a certain way to them. I wouldn't call it ridiculous that they take issue with some of Tee Lopes artistic license. It'd be like you listening to someone sing your favorite song, but they change the pitch or delivery of one the lines. It's pretty jarring. Really, let's keep it classy, huh?

About Tee Lopes music, though. His "End of Zone" track is way too loud and important sounding for my tastes. You beat the level, not the whole damn game.

Sure. It means that we're open to feedback, but that we're not going to make every change suggested. Same as it's been for a long time now.

I don't get your perception over my 'not understanding' what's been said about the music. We're not expecting literally every person who listens to Tee's music to think they're the perfect tracks for S2HD. As you noted, music is highly subjective. My incredulity has nothing to do with class and everything to do with nitpicking. There's a great deal of difference between the two. Changes were made to the track, but they don't greatly deter from the original theme in any outstanding way. Seems to me everyone was more than pleased to hear that I confirmed that Tee's excellent arrangements were the ones being made, but only until they went under the microscope. That's hardly fair to the work he's put into making them. If people are so attached to the original music that absolutely no deviation, artistic or otherwise, can be accepted, then all the more reason for us to include the original tracks that can be switched to.

I'm mainly referring to your "One note? Really?" attitude. It's a little condescending. There are other ways to say its not that serious.

I really don't care enough about this to keep arguing.

After listening to the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Musical Trip, I have to say you guys found a pretty good guy to be making the music. I definitely wish it was more bassy and less electronic in sound, but it's good. A million times better than say, Sonic 4's attempt at retro styled music with a new feel. I really like it. Definitely an interesting take on the music.

Glad to hear it :) There's always things that sound great standalone that won't work out in a gameplay environment. Take the best remixes you've heard on OCR and try playing a certain game with an accompanying level or theme piece from there; the majority of the time it just doesn't gel. We wanted to strike a balance of tunes that would sound great but wouldn't detract from the game itself, and I think Tee did a fantastic job with it.

making cool music no one gives a shit about
I would agree. And I'm glad that Ransom Rath's version of Metropolis will at least be optional, as it's the one track I've heard that seems to best Tee's take on it.

I heard the thing and thought it was pretty cool. Still, a few didn't sound......right...ish to me (IMO), so yeah.

Anyways, I dunno whether it's a good idea to bring this back up or not, but would there still be a chance to have two versions of a zones song per zone? What I mean is have one version for act 1, and another for act 2. I dunno if you guys would consider doing this or if it's even possible, but I think it'd help give more variety and stuff during the game.....but that's just me.

Basically we could just choose which versions from the archives and stuff could work best for a 2nd or so-ish act tune, so as to let the best tune done by the community for each zone go in there and....stuff. Yeah, I'm very good at explaining things, am I? :v:

What I mean is just choose what works best from each batch of people and use it.....or something like that. I think somebody who's better at explaining stuff than me can do so.

Anyways, I'm working on re-doing a couple of my tunes to see if I can't manage to get something of quality out of the thing. Hopefully I can finish and get something here before it's too late to submit stuff. :v:

I like the idea of having different music for act 2 on levels. After all, this is a remake so improving aspects of the game that were improved in later entries without going too far in meddling with stuff is generally a good idea. Hasn't pretty much every Sonic game after 3&K (excluding Game Gear games) have different music for different acts?

    Edit-

    It could always be optional.

All it would have to be is a slight variation on the original.
It could also be used to emphasise a different mood for each act.

I think it should be considered for the long term (meaning like a finishing touch)

Hmm, with all this delay on the sound and other engine components, is it possible we'll see Hill Top?

I believe just allow the music in the game folder to be replacable, and that's that. Anyone who doesn't like the games soundtrack or wants to fiddle around can add their own music/favourite remaster track.

For the sake of making this place a bit less dead, here's some opinionated feedback:

    ---
Aquatic ruin zone - Nice instrument choices. Seems a bit too precise and has too much presence though. Perhaps some reverb. on some of the tracks would help soften the mix a bit and give a sense of distance.

Casino night - An interesting interpretation but I think it's a bit too busy with too much going on and sounds a bit noisy. Separating the tracks a bit and thinning it out, perhaps with less instruments would make it better.

Hill top zone - Bass is far too in-your-face and distracts from the rest of the piece. Other than that, a very nice remix!

Mystic cave zone - Nice work! Could do with a few more "harsh tones" in places as it needs to be quite a strong, up-beat, cutting and 'mischievous' song.

Oil ocean zone - Excellent remix; Only thing I could say is that it needs more impact!
    ---

Loved the remixes :D Shame it doesn't look like the team are looking for anything creative these days but hope it helps you anyway :)

    Trapped in my own thoughts.
Two stageplays, a screenplay, and an album
Tone the stereo separation way down, especially in the first three of those. While it's good to have a different sound coming from each side, when you move any instrument too far over it creates a very unbalanced sound. If wearing headphones makes one side seem to take over the whole thing, there's a problem.

This is a particularly noticeable issue in your Casino Night 2P, where the melody itself, one of the harmonies, and one of the percussion are all on the left side.

    I KNOW, seriously wtf?

I've been searching, and searching, and typing in 's2hd' and well... no updates, nothing interesting! Why don't they open-source it already if they won't release it anytime soon so ppl can work on the engine and art in freedom like the SonicGDK engine? Exclusive to here, of-course.

    Nit-picks:
-Signpost looks retarded (sonic's perspective in the original was 'bam, in your face, it looked like it stuck out') but remastered it doesn't look like the same and it's flat
-The emerald hill zone palmtree trunks look too detailed and not like the palmtrees in real life or in the original sprites (Can be changed)

It's a pain to do fan-gaming and life at the same time (life is obviously more important), but... we need some type of update and that's to say that you guys did put alot of effort into the remastered arts, ideas, music (Mostly alot of people since the dawn of S2HD making them) and Lost making the engine, so you don't want it to go to waste....

    Oh well, it happens.... :(

In my opinion; best thing to do is to make your own forum of S2HD and go back to what it was, and make the engine open-source with members having to register to download it. If not, best wishes for the team and take care guys.
Inb4 some rude asshole with a big ego tries to act internet tough and says 'omg you suck you are whinging about a game' and being called butthurt

When we have something to show you guys beyond what you've seen, I'll make a post about it. For all intents and purposes, we don't really have anything else to show off before a playable game is ready. Recently the player sprite collision was polished up, and special object navigation (bridges, corkscrews), ring collection, spike and bumper interaction, and Sonic losing rings were finished up. Like my last few mini-update posts have been saying: it's all about the coding.

Retroman: the palm trees are 'too detailed'? If you feel that way you'll be terribly disappointed by just about everything else in S2HD given that's our goal for the project. The palms don't look like they would in real life? Well, yeah, they were never supposed to.

Then I was just having a joke, trying to break the silence. Anyway, in all honesty I'm willing to wait as long as it takes for this demo if it means things like that will be worked on, even if there are no updates in between.

If this forum were deleted, I think there'd be a surge of discussion in other forums. To keep things tidy, it might be a better idea to just keep this forum around for now.
