Sonic Generations - we still haven't played it

Also, just saw the trailer, and holy shit. The video showed practically nothing (except CLASSIC SONIC), yet here I am, grinning like a maniac.

 

Am I the only who is slightly annoyed that they might bring him back as a separate character? If that is the case he'll probably be taking the backseat to the modern Sonic in this game. Personally I would have preferred they just brought the look back in specific games. Mario's looks fluctuate significantly game to game and I just prefer that method.

 

When Sonic went through the dark tunnel he should have emerged through the other side as Classic, two Sonic's is dumb.

Damn, it's so cool watching classic Sonic acting more like an old cartoon than his modern counterpart. The way he bounced when reaching the ground made me smile.

I fear that the game's ending will deal with modern Sonic abandoning the "classic" dimension forever, without any hopes of SEGA making classic Sonic star or even appear in a game ever again. I hope I'm wrong.

But in regards to this trailer, I thought it was snowy Green Hill at first until Sparks pointed out that it was just incomplete Green Hill. I was disappoint, I wanted to see areas from old Sonic games under different circumstances - Snowy Green Hill, the sea-bound remains of the collapsed Death Egg, Casino Night at daytime (when people are getting on with their lives in the Sonic-world Las Vegas/Nevada desert) and so on.

This is good too though, I look forward to seeing what they do with it.

 

Pretty much, Colors wasn't hyped at all, the first time I heard of Colors was back in september last year and I just dismissed it as too kiddy sounding, it wasn't until late October that I saw some gameplay videos.

Hell, Colors' idea was:

Sonic Unleashed Daytime stages, from a game that was very poorly received, combine it with very gimmicky looking gameplay, a new VA cast, it being only on a platform that has a huge amount of shoverlware (the Wii has a lot of great games, but the shovelware vastly outnumbers them) and add a touch of past history of Sonic games and you have the perfect recipe for everyone to think the game is gonna be shit.

Yet it was the best main Sonic game we've had in a long time.

 

Except when Iizuka said that it was the best Sonic game Sonic Team has ever made in a series of interviews leading up to the game's release.

 

If they have a perfectly good 3D Classic Sonic model to use, now, that means we're also quite likely to see an optional skin of Pudgy Sonic in future episodes of Sonic 4, as well. They'd be stupid not to make use of the asset.

As for "Generations," I was kind of expecting something like this based on the title leak; it's just about the most obvious title for a modern-meets-classic crossover apart from Hedgehogs Forever. Will be totally unsurprised if a sizable segment of the fanbase finds reason to complain about Modern Sonic anyway. Will be disappointed if Classic Sonic lacks a spin-dash. Will be otherwise reserving judgement until we get some gameplay details.

Also, I interpret the "colorful narrow hallway with unpainted background graphics" art motif as someone's snarky way of hinting that the game will utilize the Sonic Unleashed/Sonic Colors gameplay style, as the visual metaphor is too perfect to be accidental. =3

 

There's good reason to complain about modern Sonic now. He's side-by-side with Classic Sonic. Which one looks cooler?

For real... look at how much fun Classic Sonic is in the trailer. It's such an endearing design.

Classic sonic looks so damn happy in this. His animation is just bouncing with life and energy... its refreshing.

 

Modern Sonic looks cooler. Classic Sonic looks all old-school charming. As it should be. If Classic Sonic looked "cooler," it probably wouldn't be classic Sonic anymore.

Seeing Classic Sonic is just such an interest gesture to see from SEGA. Also a pretty friggin' sweet one. We could speculate all we want about what it could mean will happen in the future, but I'd rather not get into that and just leave it up to imagination for now.

The modern design does look cool, but only slightly less appealing given all the bad games he's been featured in. Now that he's being featured in good games, maybe I won't care as much.

 

I don't think Modern Sonic will meet Classic Sonic in the game. I'm pretty sure you'll have the choice of design when you play. The trailer was just saying that the classic design won't replace the current one. Just my interpretation, though. I could be totally wrong.

 

BioWare. You don't expect me to spend two thirds of my day on Sonic forums when there's nothing to talk about, do you? I've been hyping for Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3, so I've been elsewhere. Now that we have something to think about in the Sonic department, here I am again.

Also, I kinda still don't have a personal PC at the moment, so browsing the net is a pain in the ass.
