I love that effect. Nice job on the early stage too, its not something already used before after all.
Ignore my last screen, here's a more complete version: And here's some pictures showing the Hydrocity/Launch Base effect better: http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/5255/ss2p.png http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/3402/ss3m.png
Ok that just fucking rocks. One small criticism and its not something you did M.E. but the shadow under the grass needs to be darker.
Oh wow, such colour and power to the level now!! (Say, I'm asuming not, but then again I could be wrong, but do the clouds in the BG scroll as a third plane? because that would be just beyond awesome if it does)
Its funny it seems everyone tries to make a dusk with those bushes and the purplish water. I did this one for my game Sonic Time Twisted but I've seen others too.
Huh? the purple is not water in my bg, its part of the collision chaos zone bg which I believe wasn't water. But feel free to prove me wrong.
Prove you wrong? Don't mind if I do =P They wave back and forth. Also Overbound, that design is simply marvelous, I would normally recommend maybe giving the FG Square tiles a bit more detail, but looking at it now, I think that'll ruin it, so it's perfect!
Most of the level is like that: though I'll admit its a repeating pattern for the most part. Edit I feel that I should point out this is a rather old picture. There is actually a demo from last SAGE of that level. http://timetwisted.sonicstrike.net/Sonic%2...2009%20Demo.rar some people haven't seen that past of the level and might recognize the future part of the zone more.
This is the first level of my game Sonic Time Twisted zoomed out really far to level maps size. The game is actually playable like this.
*Shrugs* there are repeating tiles and the level design isn't anything like Sonic 2. But I think its pretty solid and the real only negative comments I've got about it were from people who wanted a faster Sonic game and I just tune those out. Plus as I recall you had some positive things to say about this level last SAGE.
Are you talking about Spring Yard because that is Spring Yard. I was trying to make the point that my level isn't any more boxy than Sonic 1 levels.
I don't necessarily support either side of the dispute, but SYZ isn't really a good point of comparison. Lots of stretches of totally flat ground aren't negative inherently, but they are generally more appropriate in industrial or metallic levels. The more "natural" levels - grassy, forest-y or otherwise organic zones - are characterized by more uneven terrain. A decent example might be EHZ with its gentle grassy slopes and constantly undulating ground. Your example is a grassy zone that lacks this variety, which might be said to give it a "boxy" feel which may not appropriate considering the art-set for the level, since it detracts from the naturalistic look. In SYZ, lots of stretches of flat ground fit with the style, they are - above all - appropriate. In that sense, your level is far more boxy than any zone that could be suitably compared - GHZ, EHZ, AIZ, ARZ, MHZ, CCZ, HTZ.
