Chaotix Hacking (formerly Chaotix Level Editing)

Just speculation, but maybe the Tails and Super Sonic sprites were to be used in the bad ending. Since it ends with Metal Sonic hovering over a burning city, it is possible at the end of the credits that Sonic and Tails rush in, implying they are there to save the day now since you screwed up. Not to mention they appear right next to the sprites for the good ending.

 

I reconised this sprite from and early Sonic Team site back at 1995.

I think those are for the endings: The laughing egg for bad, and the empty hand egg for good.

 

I'm guessing they had an ending designed involving Tails and Sonic, but at some point someone (at sega) wasn't happy with these characters appearing in the game, not even in there.

 

Now that makes sense. If knuckles fails enough to mistake sonic for stealing the chaos emeralds, he would also fail at saving the world.

Actually, looking at that video again, and then looking at the good ending, I think I have a theory on where the other animation was supposed to be used. That ring that is in the middle of that ending that I linked to, its not there during the good ending. My guess is that the rings were supposed to gather around that ring, it would disappear, and that would be where the empty handed animation is used. Just my two cents

 

Then it's only partially used. The background and other Robotnik sprites are unaccounted for. My earlier post has been updated.

 

I saw the Chaotix ending with Sonic & Tails...could they be put on the Title? Would look neat...

Also great job at finding all these new things! Tails in Tornado, Super Sonic... who knows what else is in there!

 

A bit unrelated, but has anyone hacked in and got a full sprite of the Sonic and Tails on the Tornado at the end of the game yet? I can't find it anywhere online.

Great, but one problem, what pallete do I use to get the colors right?

 

Your guess is as good as mine. I only found the proper pallet once for a mighty sprite, and that was on accident.

 

No idea, I just checked the ending, and they are tan there too.
