SA1 wasn't this decade, so I sadly can't put that.

    Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
    Sonic Unleashed
    Sonic Adventure.. DX?? >.>

That about covers it. Wake me up when they stop shoveling out shit.

    5. Sonic Rivals 2 - Say what you will, but it was the most fun I had with a Sonic handheld in a long time. Tails and Rouge aside, the character selection is pretty ace, and it was the start of the 4kids cast overall NOT sucking (Griffith needs to stop doing Shadow though, it's laughably bad)

    4. Sonic Advance 2 - I want to put Sonic Advance here, I really really do. But the fact remains that I played the slag out of advance 2, and can't be bothered to do so with Advance :/

    3. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle - Yes, the remake. The DC did me wrong by screwing up Metal Sonic and Chaos, and the GC version thankfully corrected this. Also the improved Chao system was killer. So many hours plunked into raising Chao armies. Also, it would be the last game for a while were Sonic was really himself. To this day, I tout Drummond's performance in the game as a true evolution of the character from the 90s TV shows that I grew to love.

    2. Sonic Unleashed(360) - I don't care what the haters think. Werehog is AWESOME. It's the best non Sonic gameplay since Tails in Sonic Adventure. The daytime stages are pretty good too, though bloody difficult. It's also the best looking Sonic game of the decade, and the start of Sonic FINALLY being himself again.

    1. Sonic Adventure: DX - Usually I tout Sonic Adventure 2 as being more fun than it's predecessor. However, the fact remains that this is the only game where it's possible to right the serious wrong that is Super Sonic being restricted to lame boss levels. For this reason, and this reason alone, DX is now, and will remain the best 3d Sonic ever by default (spinoffs not counting), until another platformer follows in its footsteps, and without the aid of hacking. Yes I'm biased as all get out. Suck it.

    Honorable mentions:
Sonic Heroes - the Team gameplay is love/hate. In it's favor it has classic themed levels, the excellent non 4kids voices/acting of Shadow and Rouge (it was he last time I ever took them seriously), the awesomeness of Neo Metal Sonic, and the return of Super Knuckles. If super mode in levels ever becomes as functional as it is in DX, it's guaranteed an automatic #2 spot.

Sonic Advance - I'm 100% convinced that had I had this game, and not Advance 2, it'd be up there no question. It really has only one fault in my book, and you should be able to figure out what that is by now

Sonic Rush - The whole idea behind the gameplay is iffy at best. However, that doesn't change the fact that it's the only Sonic game ever to have Crowning Music of Awesome in Every. Single. Song! It is the only game, where I drag and drop the entire folder on to my mp3 player!

    1) Sonic Advance - easily top choice. Plays like a classic Sonic title but with modern graphics. The easy winner.
    2) Sonic Rush - while not as good a game as Sonic Advance, it's still pretty damn good - and the first Sonic title I've 100%'d since S3&K, which says it all.
    3) Sonic Unleashed - pretty damn fun. Only doesn't get a higher ranking due to the FUCKING WEREHOG LEVELS
    4) Sonic Advance 3 - the best special stages of any Sonic title released in this decade, the music's pretty awesome and didn't suffer from the same issues as Sonic Advance 2 did.
    5) Sonic Adventure 2 - because Heroes controls horribly, Shadow takes too fucking long to complete a given level (45 mins a not-unusual level time. What?), Sonic Advance 2 is a pile of fucking shite, I've not played Rush Adventure in any depth (need to get back to that at some point), and SA1 was released in the 90s. SA:DX shouldn't count. If it does, I call Sonic 1/2/3/K/Ristar due to them being on SMC and other discs. =P

1# Sonic Adventure 2 - This is too kickass, especially Tails stages, if Tails gets his own game, it must be like that !!!
2# Sonic Heroes - I like it quite bit, now if there was a way to shut everyone up during gameplay
3# Sonic Advance 2 - its pretty fun, on the easy side in the beginning but gets more challenging in the end. Also, this one has most amount of good BGMs for my ears from the Advance series.
5# Sonic Rush Adventure - I like it more than Rush...
4# Sonic Rush - I cannot stand the music much, but otherwise nice

    1) Sonic Adventure 2: Battle

This game is easily my favorite out of the 3D Sonic games. It took what I thought was good about Sonic Adventure and improved on it. I can put this disc in and enjoy it any day. Of course, it had the lightdash - bounce attack control problem, which is also present in Sonic '06, but most of the time I would use the spindash to go careening over the gap anyways :v:

    2) Sonic Unleashed (360/PS3)

When I first saw the trailer for this, I thought that Sega might actually be able to get this one right. Granted, it still had its problems (Boost and QTE's), but I found the daytime stages to be incredibly fun... for the most part. The nighttime stages can also be pretty fun, too, but they're too slow to fit in a Sonic game in my opinion.

    3) Sonic Rush Adventure/Sonic Rush

These games are pretty much tied for 3rd in my opinion - Sonic Rush's level design basically put you above one gigantic pit of death (not to mention Altitude Limit), but the music was kind of catchy sometimes and the special stages were a nice throwback to Sonic 2. Sonic Rush Adventure, on the other hand, had much better level design, and I still find it fun to run through any given level today. The special stages annoyed the crap out of me just because I couldn't come up with a decent strategy to get the last Chaos Emerald, but overall I had fun with this game as well.

    4) Sonic Heroes

In my opinion, this is likely one of the most underrated games of the series. Sure, it has the team gimmick and the like, but once I got used to it I had almost as much fun with this game as I did with Unleashed. The level design is bright and cartoony, just like the old Genesis games, and there's some nice music as well. The physics do feel off, and swapping between characters constantly is annoying, but overall I thought this was a fun game.

    5) Sonic Advance 3

I didn't get to play much of this one, but in the long run I found it to be somewhat enjoyable. Most of the time I would just go Sonic and Tails and ignore the team moves unless I absolutely needed them, plus, thankfully, even though there's supposed to be a story it's mostly ignored :v:

You know... I don't recall ever having much of a problem with bottomless pits in Sonic Rush... Either I'm that awesome at sonic gamez, or I have really bad selective memory XD

Sonic Pocket Adventure was released in 2000 in Japan, so I'm putting it. I've got nothing else, that's the only one I actually bothered to play much more than 30 minutes.

Pocket Adventure was pretty cool, but I can't help but feel a fair bit of the layouts were recycled from Sonic 2. Ultimately though it comes across as a love child between Sonic 1 (Master System) and Sonic 2 (Genesis), which is not a bad thing, really. I just wish there was a bit more originality in it.

Heroes. Ahh, Heroes. You'd got a lot of potential and I've had a good deal of fun playing you, but you need to cut down some of your later levels by about half before I can really accept you. Egg Fleet was a really nice level, though the bits that were geometry copy-paste efforts with minimal changes in object placement were obviously not very interesting. Not a horrible PC game for $2.50 though, considering the alternatives in that price range. :P

I really need to play the Advance games though, which I haven't. Advance 2 seems like a decent enough idea (run through the level, and find the way to get all the goal rings and do it quickly; the game does not pretend to have lots of open and varied paths, and I don't think that's a requirement for a playable Sonic title anyway) but the controls are not very good from what little exposure to it I've had, which was basically a web-based emulator. (Obviously you can see why I need to replay it more properly.) Bosses in that one are definitely toss from that experience, and given what others have said, I think this is a very legitimate claim against Advance 2.

SA(DX) is good though. Fun levels with lots of hidden goodies and all kinds of crazy shortcuts; even if the spindash is broken, it makes a lot of the levels really fun to break open. Available on PC, not overly demanding on resources, and also containing all those Game Gear games I wouldn't have otherwise. Good stuff overall, I'd say, which rounded out my collection up to that game minus Chaotix and the arcade titles. Probably the high point of the era for the hedgehog.

Unleashed, though? The night stages were okay even if they had nothing to do with Sonic. The day stages were total toss, though, for reasons I've explained far too many times to count.

If I had to rank the experiences I've had though, I'd probably go

    SADX
    Pocket Adventure
    Heroes

as generally positive ones, in that order.

    1. Sonic Unleashed (360): Christ, I love this game. It turned out pretty much exactly as I thought: Awesome day stages, decent Werehog stages with some nice platforming, breathtaking visuals, and excellent music. I played this game for a solid 6 months without getting totally bored of it, and I still go back to it occasionally.

    2. Sonic Advance 3: Not going to lie, this is actually one of my favorite 2D Sonic games ever. The zones are huge and intricate and have 3 whole acts (!), the partner system has a bunch of interesting possibilities while remaining nonintrusive, the special stages kick ass, and the music is drop-dead awesome. Also, I love how the final zone takes place in the ruins of a chaotic Angel Island instead of a generic base. Really awesome, yet underappreciated game.

    3. Sonic Adventure 2: I don't know about anyone else, but this game was and will always be very "cool" to me. The story and direction was very engaging, and I loved the varied soundtrack. It is admittedly pretty far of from "ideal Sonic", with all the varying gameplay styles and all, but the game is still really solid and has a ton of replay value. Also, nostalgia value through the roof over here.

    4. Sonic Rush Adventure: It's like Sonic Rush, but with cooler stage concepts and less death-oriented stage designs. Granted, I do like the original Rush a lot (would probably be my #6, honestly), but this game edges it out not just because of these factors, but also because of its doing away with Egg Pawns and mandatory enemy fights, it's "adventure" aspects (some may call it fluff, though I thought it added to the game's scope), and the addition of mission mode. However, I will say that the original Rush had superior 3D models, a better soundtrack in general (that's not to say the SRA's soundtrack is bad by any means- I like it a ton), and much better special stages.

    5. Sonic and the Secret Rings: Honestly, I think this game gets too much flack. It is a little frustrating to play from the get-go, but once you start getting into things, it starts to really shine. The stages are very original (and in the case of stages such as Levitated Ruin, Pirate Storm, and Night Palace, visually breathtaking) and have some pretty nifty designs, and the game's ranking system via medals and unlockable artwork is very rewarding. There's a ton of missions and powerups as well, which really adds to the replay value. Also, I personally enjoyed the music quite a lot, at least melodically. A very solid game actually- the same of which can't be said for Sonic and the Black Knight, unfortunately.

    5: Sonic Rivals 2
Shadow, SADX, SA2B Rush, 2006, Pinball Party, Riders can all suck my balls. Slow paced at times, yes, but fun? Yes. My only gripe was how annoying the duel levels were. Once I got a hang of it, sure, but at first that AI thrashed my nuts something fierce.

    4: Sonic Rush Adventure
Fuck Rush. Rush made me rage so hard. I initially felt this way about Rush Adventure till I picked it up again and enjoyed playing through the levels. It's so much better.

    3: Sonic Advance 3
It could've been better, but it made the tag team gameplay fun. Had some annoying as shit moments, though.

    2: Sonic Heroes
This game gets alot of flack and rightfully so, but at the end of the day, it's still possible for me to enjoy this game and that's what counts.

    1: Sonic Advance/Sonic Adventure 2 (DC)
A tie here. Sonic Adventure 2 has so many hours on it it's not even funny. I played that game till the disc actually stopped working. Sonic Advance is the only new age Sonic I can just pick up and go with. That's awesome. It's Classic and Modern perfectly. It feels a little slow at points, but you know what, that's fine with me because I'm not PLUMMETING INTO BOTTOMLESS PITS AND ENEMIES BECAUSE I CAN'T FUCKING SEE.

Games that could be on here if I played them: Sonic Unleashed, Secret Rings

I played Battle for more than five minutes, and the gameplay was rather decent. However, the storyline was so dreadful I couldn't handle it anymore. :psyduck:

I don't recall Battle's storyline being anything close to dreadful.

Ending almost got me all teary-eyed.

It quickly gets irritating, especially when it imposes bizarre requirements on you even though Emerl is still pathetically weak. It's fighting system is also hilariously simple.

How the fuck is that "hilarious"? I found it to be unique and easy to get into, which is a GOOD thing.

As for these "bizarre requirements", I can only think of one, which involved fighting hordes of Gamma look-a-likes in the casino area. That's it.

No, there was that time you had Emerl with Cream and you had to fight off like 5 or 6 Gamma look-alikes, and then you had to fight 4 or 5 Gizoids that were more powerful than you. And the worst part is that it's all back-to-back, you had to also protect Cream (because if she died, you died too), and it gives you no time to rest. :argh:
