    @Canned Karma

    I have been making a go at improving it. I've been reworking the drums at the moment so I'll post it up when I'm happy with them. I would like to hear some people's view's on what they think should be done to it. It would be good to get something put in that most of us would agree on. There's nothing worse than having a song been remade that doesn't have the feel of the original. I don't want it fucked up like the Street Fighter remakes, which to me just missed the point.

    Well, I tried my hand at Emerald Hill Zone's 2-player music. Since it was near the shore of the island the thing takes place in, why not make it sound like a more tropical tune? I used steel drums, steel and nylon guitars and a few other interesting things to it.

    Hope ya like it and as usual for me, tell me what ya think and how I could improve it, okies? :v:

  3. I thought it might be useful for others if I collected and uploaded all the orignal Sonic 2 music on the database and put it into one .ZIP file so that aspiring composers will be able to get the lot without delving through the many pages to get it all. Here's the link to it.

    Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - All Music

    If you want me to upload it elsewhere, that's fine. I have a Collector's Account on RapidShare, so the link will only expire if it's not used.
    I also made another .ZIP containing the best remasters for the project. Most are taken from Canned Karma's post several pages back. The link...

    Sonic the Hedgehog 2 HD - Remastered Music

    All music is in MP3 format and most tracks have been recompressed in LAME so that most users will be able to listen to the music without having to download anything extra. (I had trouble playing the music in the database in Windows Media Player, so I recompressed it.)

    Hope that does something to help. :)

    Also, can you guys not use FileDropper? Half the time I try to access a file that's been linked there, the link has expired and I'm led to the homepage. Thanks.

    ancara, that triangle/chime/whatever it is either needs to be pushed way into the background or just replaced with another sample. The piece has a solid foundation, and that tinging sound is a massive distraction from it.

    Yeah, I'd say it's one of those triangle 'instruments' all right.

    Anyway, what you said is seconded by me - I think it's much too distracting as well; A good start though. :)

    Just listened to the latest version of the drowning theme. I think I know what's missing from it. When I listened to the original drowning theme, I heard some heavy percussion kicks that went with the beat of the song. I don't believe I heard any in this remastered version. So, I started thinking about how that percussion sound could work with this piece without sounding out of place.

    I think I have the answer. What if the percussion were to be the ominous metallic sound of a ticking clock? This fits perfectly with this music's function, as a drowning timer is counting down until Sonic finally drowns. It doesn't need to be too loud, either; just audible enough to be heard in the piece and emphasize the drowning timer. Imagine: at the beginning of the music, the ticking slowly echoes to the rhythm of the violins (TICK-tk-tick-tk, TOCK-tk-tock-tk). As the song speeds up, this ticking rhythm speeds up along with it. Near the end of the song (around 0:08), when the violins start to really speed up, this rhythmic ticking will be too fast. This is when the ticking should sound like it's out of control, as if the hands of a clock are spinning wildly out of control, ticking at full throttle. When the lead violin ends the song, the ticking can either stop entirely or end with a final resounding "TOCK!"

    I think it'd make for an interesting take on the 16-bit drowning theme's percussion voice, and would make for a neat remastery. I can just hear it in my head right now. I hope this helps you guys find what you might have felt was missing from the song. :)

    Thanks for tweaking that ancara, I have no further suggestions for it. I believe it could work well as a down-tempo alternate to the faster versions submitted so far. Unless others have some commentary and ideas for improving on it, I'll mark this as approved and upload it to the database tomorrow night.

    Road To Emerald City - High Definition Remasters/Remixes of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog 2 soundtrack for the Sega Genesis. Done in modern genres similar to Benny Bennassi (metropolis zone), and Nine Inch Nails (mystic cave zone).

    So far, I've only heard the first song, but if it's anything to go by, then these songs are not the direction we want to take this in. Too much remixing and completely out of place with the environment.

    EDIT: Fuck, I am not waiting 10 minutes between each download.

    RSS is correct. Did you read the OP? I was pretty clear in the criteria for remasters.

    Oh I was actually just making money of you bitches downloading them. thanks though! I hope Sega doesn't sue you guys before someone else does for blatant copyright infringement, just don't try making any money of EXACT replication. oh and keep paying me by downloading those remixes which are more popular than your entire website. elitist retards.

    you realize you idiots can't patent any of this material which you've based off copyrighted corporate mascots. unless Sega hires you, it's more likely other people on the internet are just going to jack your sprites and use them for their own better games where they aren't bogged down by a community of half-wits who think they're Jesus. (shakes head and walks away)

  13. Not that this deserves comment, but...

    You obviously don't know much about what we are trying to do, no one intends to profit off anything we are doing... except you apparently. Furthermore, you also contradict yourself by claiming your only intent was to make money off us downloading your content, yet you obviously put a lot of time into these bad songs, which indicates otherwise. I don't know whether you're confused, immature or ignorant, but my vote lies in a trinity.

    Oh, and I didn't bother to listen to a single song. Had you not opened your mouth a few others would have listened to your songs, and your self confessed motive of "making money" might have paid off to a marginally greater degree.

    You need to have a word with yourself.

    I am here because I dream to play a HD remake of a classic game. My services are free to it because I believe that to make a project dream like this to become true then a labour of love needs to be put in for free. I also have no intention to make money from remakes. If this was a retaliation to being knocked down about what you have made then you best deal with it. There have been a lot of us that have put in work that has been looked at with disappointment. If you can't take criticism then get lost.

    Still tweaking the drums. I've been trying with adding more kicks and some more hi hats, even added some cymbals. But it's getting the balance right. It got to a point where it started to get over powering. And that was alright the first time you hear the loop, but after a bit got repetitive. I might try and get something finished over the weekend. It depends if I'm at home for a bit of time this weekend.

    If you're feeling particularly ambitious you could try going the route Ransom Rath did with Metropolis. Divide the piece up into multiple verses each with a slight variation applied. It'll keep the loop from becoming stale and, done well, gives a much better feel to the piece overall.

    Remixing music from a number of Genesis Sonic games
    I don't know what you mean but I assume I know what you mean and that it means you agree with me.

    And by that I mean;

    The artistic direction on the music here is very ambiguous and I think we're going to end up with a lot of tracks that don't sound at all like they all belong to one game. Simply going for "good" isn't the best idea when so much is up to interpretation.

    This is aside from the fact that we all have different mastering styles. Our works all have different dynamic ranges and different bass/brilliance emphases. What's good for listening doesn't always make for the best background music. Has there been any thought put into how this will work in game?

    How will the music loop gracefully?

    Are there frequency ranges we should be EQing down to make room for sound effects?
