Seeing this reminded me of a thread I had a while back.

All too often in Sonic games we see the same level themes over and over (the tropical hill, the collapsing ruin, the mechanical base, the fire level, ice level, the bouncy carnival/casino etc) however in every game there is a level that has a theme that is new, at least to Sonic. Most of the time this is the "Fun" level that fills the happy bright colors that is the game's "bouncy carnival/casino" all the while having an original theme. This level is there to say "Hey! Play this game! It isn't a rehash!" while all the other zones are pretty much Sonic staples.

Now I bring this up to you guys because I have seen hackers and fan game makers follow suit to this. Why can't we be wacky and think outside the box and do some level themes that haven't been attempted yet, especially in a Sonic game?

That's what this thread is for. Have fun and good luck.

    Futuristic Zone.

The zone features a futuristic looking place, and involves plenty of different way to travel throughout the zone at high speeds, like Chemical Plants tubes.

The Laundry Zone idea is actually pretty cool, but I doubt will ever be put in a Sonic game. I guess some kind of motorway theme, with cars driving past you and stuff, would be pretty cool. As far as I am aware, no Sonic game has a similar level.

    Battlefield Zone? :psyduck:

Inside of a big mechanical bee-hive factory, which is home to honey-bee badnicks? You could slide down honey on a honey-comb surf board.

    Acid Trip Zone.

Basically a Green Hill Zone, except the colors start cycling through the rainbow, the screen becomes distorted, gaps appear without warning, and giant clown heads which randomly appear, fill the screen, and laugh insanely and loudly before disappearing without warning.

Or, I dunno, a savannah themed level.

    Mind has been blown. ;)

    Kwyjibo Zone (Sonic 1) -

Similar to the Glitch Zone in Pokemon, you have to beat Green Hill Zone 100 times and push the hidden truck in Marble Zone Act 2 and find Tails. Then you need to beat Robotnik in Labyrinth Zone 10 times in a row. Then you will access the Kwyjibo Zone where you can play a prototype version of Sonic 1.

    Tis truth. :psyduck:

Put something like this in one of your hacks (any of you), and I'll give you a virtual cookie.

If you were going for a realistic 'Acid Trip Zone' then it would be Sonic sits very still doing nothing but wacthing the walls shake for hours on end.

You guys played Sonic 1 Seizure? Still, I'd love to see that with the shakey wall effect used in Sonic 2 and 3.

    Kitchen zone... perhaps?

Run through the many countertops, don't drown in the sinks, don't get frozen in the freezer, and watch out for the run-away giant rolling pins. (shot)

I think that's no new thematic in Sonic, specially in Sonic CD.
Also a very deep and dark forest, like Pokemon's Viridian Forest, but autumn-ish, made of giant trees which branches are roads of wood with waterworks with waterslides.
A bit like Wood Zone. But since it wasn't in the Final Version I guess it doesn't count.

    Machspeed Museum Zone-- Museum level

Refractor Rush Zone-- Mirror and Crystal level; like that one NiGHTS: JoD stage

Clock Ork Zone-- Yes, that Clock Ork zone. This one would be Sonic Gearshift's final level. Like a the inside of a giant clock with crazy traps and gears and whatnot. Sonic would lose his gearshift powers here, and he would only be able to switch at certain points. At some point, it takes you to a 'platform hell' area while your stuck in the hard-to-control 2nd Gear.

Take a flooded salt flat (looks like this) and drop an Egg Carrier on it. The impact messes up the surface, creating a level.

    Store Zone

It's where Sonic runs on the edges of the refridgerated holders at a Sam's Club (the flat-on-the-ground ones, not the wall ones) and you get across gaps using carts and springs. The boss is Robotnik with pseudo-3D swinging hams.

    Also, Best Buy Zone.

TV-top running and dodging falling CDs, games, and DVDs! :)

I confess, I always wondered what it would be like if there was a Cheese Zone. The whole level would be made of cheese and Sonic would spin around the cheese wheels of doom and the swiss holes of despair. And the boss would be a giant cheese sandwich controlled by Robotnik.

    Rotting Fruit Zone

Everything is rotting, so you can run through objects. However, the ground is soft and prone to giving out.

School zone. Run through the many intense hallways, watch out for badniks such as chomping books, slapping rulers, magical chalk that will draw new paths that may lead to your doom, lab experiments gone awry, and a giant globe that will come chasing after you like in Indiana Jones. The boss can be held inside a gymnasium, and you'll fight a machine that Eggman made that resembles a professor (with a cap and robe). Or could be held at a football stadium, running on an endless track, chasing after a machine that looks like a football player. Hit footballs back at the machine, and score a touchdown!

    Noxious Gas Zone -

You have 20 seconds to pass the zone, while listening to the 'running out of air' music. No air bubbles, nothing. Just get outta there!
