    For the next batch, I pick 3—it has a slight tint reflecting the green color of the grass onto it, which is what you'd expect from such a lighting effect.

    I like it with the brown now, just cause think of the amount of shadow we will see in the zone, I think that the black will just make things too grotty.

    3! =P Since shadows don't have colours, they are gradients to black, and it has more volume than 4, I love 3!

    Eh, there is one thing that I think needs fixed, and its making the shadow act like a shadow.

    I think you should try and make the shadow match the original sprite's hue while keeping the same luminance as example #3.

    But of course it all depends on where the sun is pointing for the where the shadow is going to be :colbert:


    Anyway, artistically No. 4 looks the best, but #3 looks more realistic and like how is should be.

    I don't want to make a habit of it, but this particular instance was probably a palette restriction.

    We're also using Robotnik with the dumbed-down colors he had in Sonic 2.


    I think we should always try to use the closest as possible color matches we can, specially with background stuff. That would be the best way to have a more or less uniform criteria for applying colors, instead of having to decide on each object and risk having future color discrepancies between them.

    Heh, look at how they tile.

    Just to show what I was referring to earlier. It's a bit rough as I didn't edit the source file, but I adjusted the shadow's colors on the furthest left block so that they have the same hue as the original game while keeping the same luminance as the example number #3.

    Exactly :) PSP crapped out on me before I could adjust the colors of my mock-up to be a little lighter.

    5 is not right.

    3 is good, but it needs less green in the shadow and more red.

    My vote is for 4. However, could I start a petition for a slightly darker upper shadow?
