The Supersonic 2 glitch bugged me first time around. However, most of these glitches, once you know they are there you can avoid them second time around.

Which is why Ice Cap Zone I rate worst. I was aware of the existence of the special stage but that never seemed to save me as Tails. It just made me fall and die.

...come to think of it Tails really does have it bad in Sonic 3. At the end of Sonic and Tails' missions Tails dies in the water the moment Sonic takes the egg-mobile...

given he doesn't return return again for the boss fight...its almost as if Sonic 3 just wanted to kill him off.

In 2D games the glitches don't really piss me off... but... what I most hate... Sonic Adventure's collision detection with the floor for example!... You guys don't even know how many times I have die cause of that... or like presing up when taiking a freaking loop before the whale in emerald coast!... the loop messes and you fly to the water u.u...

I never knew about that Tails Ice Cap glitch. I'll have to try that out in a bit.

Sonic Heroes had 3 annoying ones. One was in Grand Metropolis at the end of a stretch of speed-increasing ground. There's a jump; one out every 50 or so times I fall through the launch pad at the end. The second is in Power Plant. Closer to half the time, there's a spring at the end of a similar stretch of ground that's very easy to miss, whereupon you fall and die (for some reason the game doesn't automatically center you at that part of the level). Also, fly formation has a tendency to propel itself exactly where you don't want to go -- it sometimes ends up moving at super speed for no reason at all, especially after the other 2 characters have returned after holding down switches. Not inherently deadly though it's quite possible on say, Rail Canyon, for it to fuck you up immensely.

Sonic Adventure's Speed Highway is annoying as fuck, especially on the bit in the first part where running on the side of the building takes you to an alternate route. It's hard for me to get Sonic lined up properly half the time there. I also recall a few solidity issues in Final Egg, though they actually ended up saving me time in the end so they weren't that annoying.

I wouldn't really call this a glitch, but something that has always annoyed me about sonic heroes, is when ever you move or run down a slope, your teammates will scatter all over the damn place. This is just ridiculous. And is very troublesome when you need to line your team up to go through a 3 way loop or collect rings.
Tetsu Katano was able to perfectly program the character movements and physics in Sonic Adventure 2, but in Sonic Heroes.........what happened to him? Rushed programming I suppose. He left the US branch after Heroes, so I'm guessing something was going on in his personal life or somethiing.

Apart from what's been mentioned already, there's a bug in the Sonic Mega Collection version of Sonic 3 & Knuckles which is quite annoying (I can't actually remember if it exists in the original Mega Drive version or not; if it did, I know it didn't occur as frequently as it does here 'cos it was never an issue for me before). It's not THE most annoying glitch ever, but I felt like mentioning it anyway as it gets really old after a while and no-one else has mentioned it.

When playing as Super Sonic in Launch Base Act 2, there's a certain slope (and normally I can never remember which one it is until it's too late) that, if you try to run up it, instead of going up the slope and therefore up the wall as a result, you continue going forwards INTO the wall and get trapped in there with no way out x_x So then you have to reset, play the whole level again and make sure you've not transformed into Super Sonic before you reach that slope, as the glitch doesn't affect normal Sonic.

I've raped LBZ with Super Sonic many a time in Mega Collection and never encountered such a bug.

I second that Super Sonic bug (running in air) in Sonic 2. If it happens after you hit the capsule on Act 2, the level still finishes - but if you get it on Act 1, you're stuck there and have to reset.

Also, the Wii VC version of Sonic 2 still has this bug; it's NOT the 'fixed' version on Sonic Compilation.

  10. Oh come on. I know about all the glitches and now I can avoid them (which is why I have fun with this game :D). This isn't as bad as Tails' ice cap where its' NOT avoidable.

I recall encountering something to this effect in either S3&K in Gens, or S&K Collection. Either way, it's definitely not SMC-exclusive. I quite hated this, too.

Interestingly, I hadn't encountered the Tails in Icecap Zone glitch until about a few months ago, when I was playing the Genesis version of Sonic 3 by itself for the first time.

Try rolling off the side of the level past the endsign in Labyrinth Zone, S1.

The glitch with the Marble Garden Eggman boss. You know, the one where after he drills away the ground, the graphics glitch, the screen scrolls up two screens worth of garbage and then you die. I have a feeling it's only possible as Super/Hyper Sonic, but I honestly have no idea why it happens.

And it does affect me practically every time.

I've maybe had that happen to me twice, ever, and I'm usually hyper when I fight him. How odd.

Okay, enough of the Sonic 06 posts. Yes, we get it, you're funny, but we're not laughing. Please make legitimate posts in this topic if you're going to do so at all.

There's this one spot in Launch Base Zone where I run through a quarter pipe and get stuck get caught in one of Robotnik's traps.

There was also this spot in Casino Night Zone that I managed to get stuck in twice in a row. I didn't know Sonic died after 10 minutes back then, so I turned it off in frustration.

There was also this one time in Megamix 3.0 where I got stuck inside of a quarter pipe. This particular passing through a wall instance was a bit unusual, because Shadow was upside down, even after jumping a bunch. It kind of reminded me of the same thing happening during "Let's Play Sonic 06", only in Sonic 06, Shadow didn't even need to pass through a wall for it to happen.

And unless you're counting Sonic 06's lack of player character physics as a glitch, I seldom ran into anything that even threatened to kill me. Most of that game's problems seem to be bad design choices forced by the rushed development.

Playing Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), besides that, when playing Sonic 2 and you turn Super Sonic at the end of an act, thank god I have a Revision because I would have been pissed off because I would have been unable to finish the game.

EDIT: Sorry, half the thread answered Sonic 2K6.

There's a glitch in Shadsy, where in the levels The Doom & Lost Impact, shadow moves so fast through the rooms and sometimes the level draw distance isn't rendered in time. You'll enter a room with the whole floor and walls gone......and you fall to your death.
This also happens rarely in some other levels like in Sky Troops where you boost up a ramp and the temple in front of you will pop up 2 seconds later. Or maybe my disc isn't cleanced well.
It's strange because the geometry in the game really isn't that high in quality......rushed engine coding I suppose. I still love the game though.

I remember when I was little, the only Sega game I had was Sonic 2. In Aquatic Ruin Zone, once in a while I would find a very strange glitch at the boss. Nevermind the weird part where the boss wouldn't appear if you were too far to the right, I'm talking about something different. Very rarely the screen would unlock after he was defeated, and you could break the capsule before he was done exploding! Instead of animals, fire balls (the ones that appear after botnick is exploding) came out. Why do I think this is annoying? Because I cant reproduce the glitch again. :p
