Sonic Classics (aka Sonic Compilation) was also released in the US. They probably decided to reuse Mean Bean Machine music for the main menu because they were lazy.
...Well, okay it wasn't actually called Aquatic Ruin (I think it was ~ Relix instead) but, again, that's a level from SPA.
I'll take your word for it. The damn page isn't loading for me anymore, it only loaded once - and from memory it looked like ARZ.
Nice 34 there too. As for the rest, interesting finds. Are there full versions of these maps anywhere? It'd be interesting to look though and see if there's anything else.
Rolken made them some time ago, so credit goes to him: http://soniccenter.org/rolken/stt/. This also explains the 34, that is a placeholder for an object.
Notice that all three acts of Underground and Green Hill, as well as acts 1 & 3 of Sky High, have this row of spikes along the very bottom of the stage, all of which (except in SH1) are completely inaccessable?
Well, I vaguely recall reading that Sonic 2 doesn't by default kill the player for reaching the bottom of the stage the way most of the other games do. Kinda amusing how Sonic 2 GG, arguably the cheapest of the cheap Sonic games, has as a result technically no instant death pits.
It looked like ARZ because that's what SPA was—they took old Sonic stages (mostly from Sonic 2) and shrunk them down so that they'd play on the NGPC. It looks like ARZ if you don't zoom in, but if you do you can see it's lower quality than the Genesis version.
Yes, I know, I have the damn cart. =P My point was I never bothered to do a detailed look at it and now I cannot as the link no longer loads for me.
Okay, So, I'm playing Sonic 2 for today is the birthday of the game, amd I get to the first special stage (I only started a few minutes ago ;P), and the third amount it asks you for is 140 rings. I come up to the end with 134, yet it still gives me the Chaos Emerald. What gives?
The total was 134. From both me and Tails. At least, that's what the number center-screen is supposed to be, right?
Similar things happened all the time in Casino Night Zone - I'll be moving fast and when tails is flying towards me his standing/waiting animation plays. Once he lands when he moves this animation still plays, and he can't jump. Weird.
