I like the work you've done there. What I'd really like to see happen is a actual 8-bit-ization of Sonic 2 of some sort.

I'm sure it would be exceedingly simple, but I have no experience creating a program. I like to get my hands dirty and hack directly in hex. It really isn't that hard, just time consuming.

Correct. I'd have a go except that I have ZERO experience with graphics manipulation of any kind. Plus the app would be in VB and the better programmers here are already reaching for the reply button with a "You're such a fake coder".

My settings are obviously not set right because all I'm getting is a square for your suggestion.

It's also funny to try and pronounce it in cyrillic

Do you think I could avoid copyright infringement, if I released a physical copy of the hack and called it ?I?O 2?
That's a long way off, obviously.

It might be nice to someday have proper recompilable disassemblies for all the 8-bit Sonics. Is there a good assembler for Z80 like ASM68K?

The character I posted is supposed to be an antisigma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisigma). Basically, just a reversed C.

AS, which IMO is a far nicer assembler for 68000 than ASM68k as well.

I think the existing character is better simply because it's visible on more systems by default =P

Working on some art already, perhaps I'll have enough done on Sunday or so to already create a mock-up of an Aqua Lake re-imagining. :p
EDIT: ...or not, we were visited by my mother's cousin and her daughter today so I didn't have much time to do stuff.

Sorry to bump this one, but I'm rather confused.

According to the latest GoodSMS set there's already a "Sonic 2 Rebirth" hack (author unknown) with similar graphics. Is this project supposed to be an updated version?

That unknown author is me, and yes this is an update of that project I started all those years ago.

It's currently on hold while I'm distracted by Sonic 2 LD, though.

Funnily enough, there appears to be a download link for the older S2Rebirth on the Sonic Retro Wiki, but no wiki article to accompany it. Just discovered it through a quick google.

I love what you're doing with both this and LD btw!

Seriously, I've seen so many 16-bit hacks, I'd love to see a complete (or at least playable) 8-bit hack. Maybe if the Java emulator can handle it, I could see them on Hacktube *thinks of the possibilities*

You'd have to code/port a new emulator for the Master System but in theory it's doable - Master System is less demanding than the Mega Drive is.
